Owner description: The Tablao de Carmen pays tribute to the great flamenco dancer, Carmen Amaya, born in 1913 in the gypsy quarter of Somorrostro which then existed in what is today Barcelona's Olympic Village. Carmen Amaya made her debut in 1929 before King Alfonso XII on the site which is today the Tablao de Carmen at the inauguration of Poble Espanyol de Montjuic.

“Dancing is great, meal and seating less great”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2013

My overall experience was better than expected, as the performers (especially dancers, and singers) were really entertaining. It was clear that they were committed to their performance and we saw and felt their commitment. The tapas were average (which was expected), and I wouldn't recommend any food option beyond the tapas. The only real complaint is the seating. While the venue is rather small, if you're sitting in the back the view of the dancers - especially their feet - is obstructed which diminishes the experience somewhat.

Overall recommended.

“Least favorite part of our trip”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2013

If you like to listen to mating cats fight along with a 3 year old banging on pots and pans, add in inedibly bad food AND pay a premium price, this place is for you! We have loved our week in Barcelona, but this was just a horrible experience. The restaurant/show is only for tourists and I am sure not expecting return visitors. They cram as many people as possible into the room, tables are inches apart. We ordered the vegetarian tapas option, and paid 10 autos EXTRA for a child to also have vegetarian. So 49 euros each. This included a thimble full of gazpacho, one slice of unripe tomato, 2 one inch round balls of fried cream of broccoli, six sautéed mushroom caps to share, a small bowl of eggplant strips to share, a small mound of plain mashed potato, and an over sweet flan. The show, only one dancer at a time due to the small stage, drab costumes, and ear spitting wailing. We went out to dinner right afterwards. A rip off. Could not wait to get out of there.

“"Excellent"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2013

My husband and I returned from a cruise and spent an extra day in Barcelona. I wanted to see a Flamenco show. He had researched the web and found El De Tablao Carmen before we left home. The reviews were very favorable. We were not disappointed at all. The dancers were very passionate as were the singers. The Sangeria was refreshing and we thoroughly enjoyed the Tapas and that provided more than enough food. The service was very good also. We highly recommend this venue for a wonderful show.
