Owner description: The Tablao de Carmen pays tribute to the great flamenco dancer, Carmen Amaya, born in 1913 in the gypsy quarter of Somorrostro which then existed in what is today Barcelona's Olympic Village. Carmen Amaya made her debut in 1929 before King Alfonso XII on the site which is today the Tablao de Carmen at the inauguration of Poble Espanyol de Montjuic. The Tablao offers a top quality pure flamenco show, a direct descendant of the tradition. It dynamically presents several of the most important palos or styles of flamenco so that the spectator can get to know the richness and variety of this art form. It also highlights its different forms of expression: instrumental, vocal and dance.

I've been many times because I take my foreign friends visiting Catalonia to the Tablao, always a success. The place is set up so that from all tables one can feel close to the scenario. I like the dim light ambiance and the sonority. The staff makes you feel a VIP, but the prices a bit steep, so lately I choose the option show+wine (a bottle for two) instead of show+dinner, despite the dinner is good. Sometimes I chatted with the artists after the show.

Great atmosphere and view of show was perfect. Location in Spanish Village was great! Service was excellent and the tapas were the best that we had in Barcelona.

We decided to go watch the show by recommendation of our concierge. We passed on the food so just went strictly for the performance. It was incredible! We got a front table (a little pricey) and come to find out, we could have gotten a great view from most tables. The dancers were incredibly good and were almost transformed as soon as the music began. The singing was absorbing and overall beautifully done! Our daughters (14 & 11) enjoyed it very much also. We would definitely watch it again!

We really worried that this would be a total tourist trap, and to the extent that all the guests are tourists that may be true, but the dancing was incredibly artistic and authentic. What surprised and delighted us were the wide smiles, laughter, and genuine enjoyment of the performers - both musicians and dancers. The artistic director of the company, a man, also performed and was terrific. Our food - the full meal, or Tabloa - was excellent with the exception of one dish, and they catered to our son's picky eating. The downside is getting there - it's in the rather uninteresting Poble Espanyol in a far corner. However, we made an afternoon trip of it, taking the subway to the funicular to the gondola (the Telerific Montjuic) to the Castle of Montjuic (which has amazing views), and then going to the Poble Espanyol by 10 minute bus from the gondola. So the whole afternoon ./ evening was really run.
