Owner description: The Tablao de Carmen pays tribute to the great flamenco dancer, Carmen Amaya, born in 1913 in the gypsy quarter of Somorrostro which then existed in what is today Barcelona's Olympic Village. Carmen Amaya made her debut in 1929 before King Alfonso XII on the site which is today the Tablao de Carmen at the inauguration of Poble Espanyol de Montjuic.

I know nothing a about flamenco and can therefore not judge if what we saw was to be considered as good flamenco, but me and my wife really enjoyed the show and had a great evening. We had booked the show and tapas. For this you get a plate of cured meats, a small gazpacho, tomatoed bread, potatoes and tuna salad some slices of manchego cheese, battered squid and some cheese croquettes. All that with one bottle of red wine to share and a large bottle of water. This is all followed by coffee and a creme catalan. All that plus the show for 48 eur a head is extremely good value for money. Just one word of caution:The show location is situated in the poble espanol which you can access for free one hour or so before the show. If like us you go in the winter be warned the place is dead. We found 3 shops open and one place to sit down to have a drink, so don't bother arriving early thinking you will enjoy the poble as there is absolutely nothing to do there.

We were this show restaurant in 07/2011 and not 2012.

positive points :
- The performance was wonderfull and so intense !!! All artists has that powerful style, so necessary to make the flamenco charm operates. In fact, we saw many other places and flamenco theatre in Barcelona, in which we was disappointed by a kind of “flamenco for tourists” performance, especially in the Ramblas and Barrio Gothico Areas. This is absolutely NOT the case in Tablao de Carmen in which the pure heart of andalousian style is not depreciated.
- The atmosphere of the restaurant is typical of andalusian ones. The tables are very close to the scene, and being sitted in the mezzanine or the upper level offers you the best view to appreciate the artistic performance.

negative points :
- Artists change frequently there (it also said in the web site of the restaurant), so I don’t know if the other artists are so wonderful and charming that those we saw in July 2011.
- The dinner itself is quite good, but not so exceptional than the show !!! The food is not on same the level of the Artistic performance.

Went with my teenage daughter last summer and thoroughly enjoyed the show and tapas. Set in Poble Espanyol, the village is beautiful to take in before the performance. Went again this January and was delighted to still be impressed. Tapas menu was more than sufficient and really tastywith around 7 dishes... couldn't actually finish it all. Had a choice of sangria or wine and waterwhich is included. We shared a jug of sangria and when we had finished it, they produced another one with no extra payment!! I would definitely recommend this evening of good food, wine and quality entertainment!

As tourists to Barcelona, we greatly enjoyed this flamenco experience, complete with a jug of sangria, constant flow of tapas, ending in a delicous dessert and espresso accompanied by an amazing & passionate flamenco performance!

The performers were so graceful and involved, smiling and enjoying themselves as they danced and sang for us.

The seating is a bit cozy (!) but makes the entire evening more intimate, especially when you read the historical significance of the place.

The dance and the music was great. You should definitely get the meal with the show, because otherwise you will be watching other people dine before the show and become hungry as well.
