Our main reason for going was to take the Ferris Wheel on top of the mountain -- almost every pamphlet about this attraction has a picture of the big Ferris Wheel. Guess what -- it does not exist -- they tore it down!!! So now it's a pathetic little amusement park. You get there by the bus at the top of La Rambla, then it takes you to the cable car (each time, another fee). And a fee to get in. Altogether a big rip-off. Once there, there really isn't anything to do if you have teens - mine were bored out of there minds (as was I) It's really a place for small kids. The restaurant was disgusting -- really just a snack bar with hot dogs, hamburgers & nachos. Not good quality food at all, and you're trapped because there is nothing else up there to eat. The trek up and back, and an hour up there looking at the views, was a waste of half a day in Barcelona. The only good thing I can say is that the views are good. Big deal. Unless you have small kids, pass.

Its a glorious view of Barcelona. A exquisite religious site, a historic amusement park AND a trip p a mountain on a heritage funicular.

Easily a 1/2 day well spent . Take the bus to the funicular ride.
Bring change or you will need to wait for the attendant (he also is the coachman on the funicular.

Go on a clear day to see birds and site on the way up.

Ride in the lower cars

Get to the top and explore all levels. the church has two levels See the church and the upper chamber.

See the rides. The old aeroplane that swings out over the cliff is right out of Indiana Jones, Many of the rides are well maintained and 100 years old. Theres a museum of automatons. Carnival foods.

GO..

Three essentials; get entrance tickets online in advance, travel there by public transport, and take a picnic, or at least some snacks to keep you going until dinner. We did all three and the whole day for a group of ten (4 adults, 6 kids) cost us about 150 euros, including sweets and ice creams. It probably also helped that it was a sunny but cool and windy day in October, which meant no queues for rides and generally a very relaxed vibe. The rides were thrilling enough for kids up to 9 years old, but probably a bit lame for teens. The views are just amazing, and the whole place has a nice old school feeling. A great day out.

(public transport route is FGC to Peu del Funicular, funicular to Valvidrera Superior, and bus 111. It costs one single journey, so less than 1 euro if you have a t10 card)

We took our 11 year old and 8 year old children together with their grandparents to Tibidabo and had a great day. Once you pay the entrance all the rides and attractions are free so on a weekend in September we had a great time going on as many rides as we wanted with minimal queueing on most. The longest queue was 40 minutes for the old aeroplane (not worth the wait) and 15 minutes for the Freddy Krugar Hotel Horror show which was really good but very scary and not recommended for the under 12's.
I would think the park gets packed in July and August.
We will definitely go back again.
