“Mainly a Roman dig”

Impressive, but we could have used our time better at better museums. Fascinating view of Barca though.

“Best archeological excavation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2012

Calling this place the City History Museum does not go far enough to describe the fascinating exhibits in terms of the excavations through pre-Roman times up through the medieval period. We've been to several of this sort of thing in England and I can tell you that this one was far superior in terms of giving the viewer more information and more in-depth information.

“For History Buffs”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2012

History buffs can spend a happy hour or two in one of the best museums of its size in Europe, providing a subterranean tour through the actual excavated streets, houses, and fish oil and wine factories of part of the Roman and Visigoth city. May be less attractive to non-history buffs; children would whizz through in a few minutes. Few explanatory signs in English, but the audio guide in English (included with the entry ticket) is informative.

“Most overlooked”

This was a real treat. We had the museum nearly to ourselves. The underground Roman City was well worth the trip.

“Fascinating look at history”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2012

Visit takes you under present Barcelona to Roman town below, then brings you back up through the early bascilica and palace of the Counts. English-language descriptions available, plus free audio guide with entry. Only issue is temperature control - it gets very hot! Plan on spending a couple of hours to see it thoroughly.
