This is a horrid place, if you go to bed at 4 am it will be fine, if you do not mind being ripped off and scared it will be fine, we had a horrendous experience staying here with drunks and undesirables living alongside, we were sold a deluxe apartment they was sh!! And had to phone an emergency number due to real fear for ku safety , book elsewhere please, the place is very very scary ..........

We stayed for 4 days from 6 to 9 April. Couple of things to note: our Vueling flight left Gatwick from the North terminal not the South (our flight information pack sent us to the wrong terminal). We arrived late on a Saturday (almost 10pm) and having read the information in our pack, we called in at the Hotel Balmes via taxi first. This was totally unnecessary! Ring to confirm that you have to do this, as we wasted time and money (£50 Euros) in finding two locations instead of just going direct to the apartment. Our modern apartment was clean and tidy and very well equipped with 2 TV’s (including an English Disney channel which my children loved), free WiFi, microwave, toaster, hob, dishwasher and washing machine, safe and air conditioning (heater). We had a bath, shower and bidet in our spacious bathroom. There are only net curtains on the window which lets the light stream in, in the mornings. The bins get emptied very early in the mornings as well and the noise woke me up as I am a light sleeper.

There is someone on reception most of the time (they also speak excellent English)! As previous reviews have mentioned, the light and airy apartments are ideally located just 2 minutes’ walk from the Llacuna metro station (Line 4). The metro is cheap and easy to use if you buy a T10 travel card (10 journeys in the Barcelona area which can be used for multiple people). You can get anywhere from Llacuna! There are 2 supermarkets which are conveniently located near the metro and stock almost everything at prices which are not unreasonable. The fresh warm bread in the morning was worth waking up for!

We walked a couple of times from the apartment to the beach (about 10 minutes) and for about 15 minutes in the other direction (head for the multi-coloured Gherkin building) to a larger shopping precinct with lots of shops and big food area. BEWARE though if you arrive late on a Saturday or on a Sunday! No supermarkets or shops are open and apart from restaurants, the place is dead!

The pool was too cool to use in April, but we did not care! Would definitely stay here again!

After returning from la replubica apartments barcelona yesterday i thaught i should share our experiance, we arrived at la republica about 23.30pm after a long day traveling we had written confirmation there would be someone there to greet us at reception, unfortunatly this wasn't the case, we couldn't get into reception as the door was locked, there was a number on the door to call which i did, i was instucted to get a taxi to hotel balmes to get the keys, when i asked why they couldn't bring them to us the guy said it was not possible, the nice guy i spoken with didn't even offer to order me a taxi which was the hard part because these apartments are located in a quiet residential street, when we did finally get a taxi we had a 30 min round trip to hotel balmes, when we finally got the key cards and arrived back at la republica the key cards wouldn't work, we was now getting very angry as it was now 1am, i phoned the guy again and he said someone will come to you in 15 mins, oh dear why didn't they do this in the first place, the guy finally tuned up to let us into our apartment about 1.30am, this in my opinion was shocking service, in the morning the girl on reception could not apologise enough, to be fair she was a credit to hotel republica, as it turned out the key cards were not programed, she refunded the taxi fare and also compensated us a little, the management of la repubica need to look at this because it is very poor service, its a real shame because these apartments are fantastic, we were a group of 4 adults sharing an executive apartment which was supurb very clean and modern perfect for our needs, however the swimming pool on the roof was very poor maintained and very dirty which was a shame, overall you have alot of work to do to look after your guests upon arrival, if you are going to la republica please be aware as these wonderfull apartments are badly let down by poor hospitality skills, regards

We booked here for 5 nights in the beginning of April, and had a very nice stay.
The apartments are located just a couple of minutes walk from Llacuna metro station (L4), and it takes you aprox 10 min from the hotel to the lovely area of Barcaloneta, and about the same to the sea front and the beach.
The apartment is modernly equipped with both dishwasher and laundy-machine, espresso-maker, fridge, pots and pans, knives etc..
Very spacious and very quite. New York-stylish...
The pool is small (2x5 meter), and is just for cooling down on very hot days.
We booked a standard apartment, but got a free upgrade to de-luxe - wich is a very nice apartment for 3-4 people. Great service from Blanka at the front desk!
Would definitely stay here again...

Room Tip: Dont stay at the ground floor. There are bathtub in smaller apartments. The large ones have just s...

We had a reasonable stay but a couple of things bugged us.
1. Description says bath, no bath
2. Description says free wi fi, no wi fi or not working.
3. We booked three nights, keys deactivated after two. we only got in because the front door was open. sorted out and new keys given.
4. Big thing made about the pool, but not heated so unusable.
5. Brochure says soundproofed, but not against loud youngsters all gathering in the room next door. and we suspect the underground metro of a rumble noise that can be heard.
6. Taxi couldn't find hotel.
7. All the pictures of the rooms show bidet, no bidet.
8. Shower drain was blocked and flooded the room.
9. For some reason the room had a large shelf unit which took up loads of space and didn't really serve any purpose

We paid for executive loft but think we were given a basic room. As we looked at the other rooms they all seemed similar in layout.

Even though we have a few gripes the room was satisfactory for the trip but could have been better. The cleaning seemed to stop on the second day. The location was good and perfectly safe to walk around at night but it is in an industrial area. The transport links were very good and only a few euros for each trip. The beach is only 15 mins away on foot. The cathedral familiar takes only 15 mins on the metro. There is a corner shop that sells all the basics and at very reasonable prices.

The desk staff are extremely help full and responded quickly to issues and travel requests but didn't explain the workings of the room such as the electric blinds or the air conditioning system which is the only heating. First night very cold and only thin sheets not duvets. The bed was comfortable. No communal bar area to relax with others as in a normal hotel.

I am being devils advocate as we are aware this is not an hotel but an apartment block but just wanted to point out lack of social life if that's the sort of thing you like.

Room Tip: take the brochure with you and compare the features with what you get.

This is an excellent place to stay, fantastically clean and modern apartments with great facilities. Situated slightly out of town away from the hustle and bustle but only a block away from the METRO. Supermarket almost opposite, beach 10mins walk. This is in a really urban and up and coming area, little bit arty.

We had a lovely stay in one of the larger Republica-apartments: lots of space and impressively high sealings. The service is very friendly, the apartment very well equipted: everything and more for a medium/long stay! One of the beds was out of order, but they offered us an acceptable solution.

The apartment is located just a few stops from the city-centre (metro) in an upcoming part of town: lots of art/creative initiatives in all the old factury-facilities; very inspirering! It's also nice to be able to relax away from all the touristy-hussle.

Room Tip: The larger apartment on the first floor was great: lots of light and five large windows that opened...
