“Great value accommodation in good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2012

Really enjoyed our stay. The apartment was compact but had everything we needed and, even for a family of four, was just big enough. With so much to see, we spent relatively little time indoors in any event. The rooms were clean and the location was excellent, just a short walk to the metro and 4-5 stops to city centre. Handy to have a breakfast cafe in the basement too.

If you are looking for somewhere which is small but comfortable and conveniently located, this apartment block offers a good value option

I just came back from a 2 week stay in BCN and selected these apts as they were in a neighborhood i hadn't ever stayed in Poble Nou. Its removed form all the touristy areas and part of BCNs regeneration area @22. I read some reviews which said it was a little cut off but to be honest the Metro is a block away there are mini markets a block away - the rambla of Poble Nou is three blocks away and gives you a taste of regular BCN and it's inhabitants, It is close to the tram which connect to other metro lines, two shopping malls and hypermarkets so really well situated. Yes its not at the heart of BCN's vibrant center but is perfect if you have here before and wnat to sample Catalan life for real. The local are all very welcoming and you really feel as if you are living in the city. The area is in redevelopment it was BCN's manufacturing sector but t has a charm in it peaceful streets and interesting architecture for the turn of the century - modern in parts and industrial in other it was a great place to stay. I run so was perfect to get to the beaches and run along the shore front , along the ave diagonal past all the modern buildings as well as exploring the Olympic village. So easy to get around there are bike rentals close by.

The apts are very modern and stark so if you want Gothic faire may not be your place - this is more modern Spain or catalunya. The apts are perfect everything you need, the staff really helpful freindly - all very clean efficient and well kept. I am ready to book to return in Set next year though they look pretty booked. I would really recommend this place if you want a different experiences to the crowded rambla and want a taste if a real Catalan neigbourhood and be able to mingle with the cities inhabitants. had a wonderful stay would return time and time again. Thank you to everyone at the Republica it was simply perfect

If you want to be in the heart og the city the Derby Group of Hotels that owns the apts also has them in the Born and in Gracia so there is a great selection - these are cheaper than the other but maybe thats due to the location - tho being 3 blocks form the beaches of Mar Bella and Nuovo Icarito was perfect. Reasonably priced, clean, well kept it was a fantastic value - I like it s much that I then booked my self into a Derby Hotel in London. I really hope they have availability for 2013 in Sept so I can stay there again

Room Tip: If its hot there is a roof top plunge pool which was OK but being so close to the beach I didn't...

It seems as though we stayed in a similar, if not the same, apartment as the previous reviewer.

First of all, the apartments are quite new - you will need to keep an eye out so the taxi driver doesn't miss the spot. If not getting a taxi, the Metro station Llacuna is very close (5min walk) so no troubles there.

The staff were very friendly, though directions were communicated quite badly. The nearest 'decent' supermarket is a 15 minute walk, at least. There are two smaller ones next to Llacuna station. The location of these supermarkets should be something explained immediately, as the apartments are self-catering. We ended up looking on our phones and locating them ourselves. Otherwise, theywere kind and courteous, booking us a taxi for our return flight as soon as we checked in.

NOTE: Check the time you will arrive, as if you get to the apartments after a certain time you will need to pick up your 'keys' (actually a keycard) from another hotel that is a few Metro rides away. Luckily we did not need to do this.

Our apartment was in a disappointing location, almost a basement apartment with long windows that anyone could look into if curtains were not drawn. A slither of light was available due to a gap in the surrounding buildings so this was our only source. We would have preferred another apartment, but the rest of the place seemed OK (we did peek through an uncovered while descending the stairs window and found that at least one of the apartments on the top floor were unfurnished, so it seems as though many may be unavailable anyway).

Inside, the space is small but high ceilings give it a pleasant enough illusion. I did not sleep in the bed but the sofa bed was reasonably comfortable, if very squeaky, and could be assembled and disassembled without much difficulty - although it did lock a few times. The kitchen is nice but an oven would have been great, also to boil the kettle or make toast we had to do it in the bedroom or on the floor in the living area - the socket provided in the kitchen was past the fridge door and impossible for the lead to reach from kitchen surface or kitchen floor! Kettle v. hot when boiled so burned fingers a few times when transferring from floor to kitchen. Fridge was lovely and big with added bonus of freezer!

The bathroom was AMAZING with a gorgeous, gorgeous shower and lovely big sink. Lots of space to put toiletries. There was a lot of cupboard space for clothes etc. as well, and the safe was especially useful and easy to use. Air conditioning in both living and bedroom area - great.

Sleep was ok, despite wall to apartment next door either being quite thin or there being some sort of connecting air vent, whichever it was there were some very annoying screaming children until about 10.30 at night. The parents' solution to this was to turn the television up loudly - not sure which was worse.

The swimming pool is a swimming pond, very small in length and just over 6ft in width with a depth of around...3-4ft? Just enough to swim in but lovely for keeping cool. When this hotel reaches capacity it will be quite difficult for all guests to make use of the facilities. We did have it to ourselves on two occasions though, which was nice. The terrace on the roof is nice and big for sunbathing.

The apartments do seem a bit of a way out, but really when you get to know the area better the location is safe and actually quite good. The nearest nightclub (Razzmatazz) is 6mins walk and provided an interesting night out. The beach is 10mins away, there is a long shopping street 10/15mins away and the Metro is very close. It would even be possible to walk to the Parc de la Ciutadella, if you fancied it. Line L4 is well connected and the Metro system is easy to figure out. The Barcelona city tours bus stops just shy of the beach, too - the open top buses were a great way to see the city and we used this to plan our holiday.

All said, I really enjoyed the stay and it was great to come back to a peaceful area of Barcelona after the noise and hustle of the city centre. The area just needs a bit of a makeover - which I understand is underway - and you'll have a great time!

Room Tip: Ask for first or second floor, and keep those curtains shut!
