One of the old breed of small, family-run inexpensive hotels that is fast vanishing from European cities! Beautiful building with the usual small but smooth-running elevator characteristic of nearly all older European buildings. Rooms are spotlessly clean, with lovely old-fashioned furniture (unlike many inexpensive hostels which give you a nightstand and a few hangers, here there are plenty of drawers and armoire space for hanging clothing. Excellent for a longer stay). Comfy bed, flat-screen TV with many stations including international and English-language news, and speedy wifi. Some rooms are en-suite, but I stayed in a single with shared bathroom (had a sink in my room). The shared bathrooms are kept so clean that only once in 2 weeks did I see any sign that anyone else had used it at all.
The staff are absolutely wonderful. I had my purse stolen while out and about the city, and they were so sympathetic, letting me change my payment arrangements and use their computer and phone for hours making international calls, faxes etc while cancelling cards and dealing with the emergency. No 'major' hotel I've ever been in has been half so accomodating! I will definitely stay here again, and recommend it to all my friends.

It is a bit hard to find with the scaffolding outside and inside a museum piece elevator. Rooms are tastefully decorated and air conditioned. No food is served but cafes and restaurants are close as is Plaza Catalunya.
We recommend this place as it is also secure and clean.

A good base for travellers, rather than tourists. Located on 1st floor of a large 19th century building. You need to book a 'superior' room if you want private facilities. Pity about the scaffolding on the front of the building, which made our balcony inaccessible. Looks like it will be there for some time. Television, and liquid soap, but nothing else - no hairdryer, no tea making facilities, no glasses in room. Good central location and reasonable price in an expensive city.

Room Tip: Go for a superior room if you want private facilites.

I travelled to Barcelona with my 11 year old daughter. It was our first visit - 4 days. The hostal was situated in a perfect position to explore Barcelona. We were able to walk almost everywhere and hardly used public transport, although the hostal was very close to a Metro station. The hostal was very clean and the staff helpful. TH e price was very good for the location (especially with the discount we were given because there was scaffolding in front of our room!)

Room Tip: Our room faced the road which was not busy but the cars were noisy.

Situated on one floor of an old apartment building in the heart of Barcelona, near to transportation, shops and main sights. There are lots of cafes and restaurants in the neighbourhood. Good price for the location. The public spaces ooze charm, but rooms are very small and old-fashioned. An interior room can be noisy due to the echoes in the courtyard and the constant sound of the cage elevator. An exterior room is preferable. I have stayed here more than once.

Room Tip: Exterior room is quieter.

This is a clean hotel, we found hardly any issues with the room apart from a few hairs on the bed. We had a private bathroom, but note that the shower cubical is very small although we found out the shared bathroom cubical was larger (our drain was blocked the first morning so I had to use the shared facility as it was overflowing).
They have some building work going on on the outside so there is scaffolding covering the entrance, on the weekend we were (over Easter) nothing was happening as I guess the builders were on holiday.
Location is not particularly good, there is quite a walk to the main Pl Catalunya, but you should be able to get to the nearest Metro fairly easily. If I was to choose another hotel it would be closer to the centre.
Very friendly staff.

Room Tip: Don't worry about the shared bathroom, it was clean and fine to use. There were only two we cou...
