“City Break to Barcelona”
Reviewed October 25, 2011

Decided to have a city break and chose Barcelona for 4 days. Stayed at the Guitart Grand Passage Hotel in Exiample. As there were 3 of us, we booked a triple room which included a suite of 2 rooms; one with twin beds and a TV and the other with a single bed, a sette and chair and also a TV and fridge. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we were shown into a room with three single beds which was not acceptable. The guy on Reception was very accommodating and moved us to a suite room. The rooms were large and airy with a nice balcony overlooking the street below. This is a quiet area and just what we needed. It is a short bus ride to Playa Catalunya in the centre but the hop on hop off bus is just around the corner which we utilsed for two days. This is the best way to see Barcelona and not too expensive. There are lots of little cafes just around the corner on Diagonal as the hotel is quite expesive for breakfast. I would also recommend dining at the fish restaurants next to the Marina at the beach as they tend to have special offers in the evenings. We had an exceptional meal at the La Sendaro costing 15 euros for 5 courses plus a free glass of wine. I would not however recommend the Bar Velodrome for a meal (which is opposite the Hotel) as you get a mere morsal for a considerable amount of money. I would truly recommend a vist to Barcelona as this is a lovely city and would certainly stay at the Guitart Grand Passage Hotel again. It was very safe and I never felt threatened wherever I went.

I was in Barcelona for a trade fare and a I had this grateful experience in this hotel. First of all, I must say that the staff was so helpful and taking care of my needs at all times.
The rooms are very big and confortable, nice king size beds and nice living room with a very particular balcony facing the street.
The area is very nice, with lots of shops and interesting restaurants , and very well conected.
I would recomed this hotel without any doubts.

Room Tip: I was told that all rooms are suite style and faces the street with beautiful balcony.

For a 4 star hotel I was very disappointed. The room appeared to be nice but the chair was broken and the bath had black mould on the seal. I expected some slippers and a kettle but this was not provided. The wardrobes were huge but made an awful screech and the doors did not slide very well. There was a problem with our door, it had trouble locking. The air conditioning was non existent. The lifts were tiny and there was only 1 person on reception. It's a bit out of the way from the hub of the city so after a night out expect a walk back.

The room is large and comfortable, the price was reasonable.Despite being in the center is not noisy at all thanks to the double window with these characteristics balcony.
However the carpet in the room is something I do not like. The overall impression is not very clean. The bathroom was ok but did not give a good impression.
The TV channel offering is limited and not very good.
The corridors to get to the room has a strange shape, looks more like an hospital, or peraphs it was the flicking light that just needs to be fixed...

Pro's: The location of this hotel is very nice and safe. There is a busstop in front of the hotel that goes directly to plaza Catalunya and to the beach, perfect. A street behind the hotel there is Av. Diagonal where there are other buslines that goes to Passeig Gracia and Sagrada Familia. The hotelstaff at the receptiondesk are very friendly and helpfull. Towels are changed daily and are clean. The suite style of the room is very nice but looks worn-out. The neighbourhood is very safe and there are a lot of restaurants in the neighbourhood for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are also other stores (supermarket eg) for your daily needs. I would highly recommand the chinese restaurant across the hotel. Very friendly staff and the food is truly excellent, value for money.
Cons: For a 4star hotel the facilities are very limited, so this was a disappointment. The wifi hardly works in the room. Further there was for instance no watercooker and some other extra's that you can expect in other four star hotels. The interior and the marmer bathroom needs an update. The description how to transport to the hotel is not the efficient way. Its easier to take the airport bus 1 to Plaza Catalunya and then from there bus no. 58. Depending on which side of the hotel you got the room you do face a lot of traffic noise.

In overall: nice hotel at a good and safe neigbourhood but not 4star worthy, more like 3star. Staff are very friendly and helpfull. Do use the buslines instead of the metro for transportation.

We just came back from a week in Barcelona, with our two kids. We got a family room- the room was above expectations- very nice, spacious, and looks new. wood floor, two bathrooms ,large bed (for 3 ...),a living room with dining table, big balcony and lovely view.
The hotel is in a nice area, but not in the center of the city. I like it- it's better than the areas with a lot of tourists and noise.
There is a bus station near the hotel, 58 goes to Placa Cataluna (you can use a metro card for the bus),and just near the hotel there is a touristic bus station. metro is about 10 minutes walking. if you like to walk it's ok but we found that a taxi is an easy way and not so expensive (for family of 4).
I like the location- elegant, nice and safe to walk even at night. you can find everything in the streets around- icecream, piza, tapas and more.
We found a bakery along Muntaner st. and also a supermarket and fruits store. Bar Velódromo near the hotel is a good place for coffee.
Finally, some good words for the wonderful staff of the hotel - we got everything we asked for- the reception service was always very friendly and helpful, and also the cleaning service. Thank you for pleasant and nice attitude .
We highly recommend the hotel!

Room Tip: If street noise bothers you -ask for high floor (but not necessary on weekends- which is more quiet)

We went on a family holiday last summer to Barcelona and thought we found a good deal with this hotel (it was about 10-20 euros cheaper than others with family room) and we left booking quite late.

The staff are able to speak English and it's located in a good area of Barcelona for traveling, however, it is at least a 10 minute walk from the nearest metro stations recommended by staff -who can speak English which is helpful- but there are a lot of buses nearby.

As soon as we arrived, I realised I had left the printout of our confirmation for the booking and the woman behind the reception desk said we could use the hotel's computer. However, when we checked out we noticed that we had been charged for an hour's internet use- the gentleman at checkout did waive this fee after we explained how the first woman (probably in her 40s, dark hair, stern expression) didn't explain the full story.

The room itself was very unimpressive. Everything was old. The bathroom was quite nice and towels etc were replaced daily by the cleaning lady. The extra beds were essentially sofas and VERY VERY VERY uncomfortable. The main double bed consisted of two single beds joined together (see pictures attached), but they were not as uncomfortable.

A huge issue we had was the incredibly noisy middle-aged men that were in the room next to us- they were very loud and kept going until 3am.

In summary- I would NOT recommend the family room and this hotel for families, but if you find a cheap deal and are going as a couple or friends then it should be okay.

Barcelona itself was amazing.

Room Tip: Avoid the family rooms.
