“25 Year Anniversary perfection.”
Reviewed November 7, 2013

Total surprise visit last weekend. It was all and more of an amazing 5 days in Barcelona organised by my husband. Fabulous boutique hotel, didn't disappoint one bit. Every aspect of stay perfect and the staff couldn't have been more helpful or delightful. Out of the main city in residential area with some superb restaurants nearby, an absolute 'find'.

Room Tip: Apparently don't go for 14....not sure why!!??

My wife and I stayed here for a honeymoon, as a result the staff put rose petals on the bed, and free brownies to welcome us, and were amazing throughout the stay. The minibar is free, there is an amazing lounge and honesty bar with great drinks, our standard room was superb and comfortable, breakfast was an amazing all you can eat top quality spread and the pool and outdoor area are well appointed. This is a hotel of class and taste not to be missed with superb staff.

Room Tip: Just a tip, best way from the airport on the metro is the train to Barcelona Sants, Metro back to Di...

What a beautiful, sophisticated hotel! Tucked away off the street, a short metro ride away from Las Ramblas, this hotel is more like a private home or spa. There is a pool in the back courtyard, shared outdoor patios outside of the rooms, and an incredibly peaceful and useful library/lounge where you can get free snacks and even alcoholic drinks on the honor system while you unwind from your day in stuffed leather chairs. The rooms are quiet, decorated in a modern, zen-like style with natural woods and beautiful architecture, unique to each room. The staff is incredibly helpful and gracious, and the breakfast room is like its own restaurant, with a very generous breakfast included. I cant imagine a more pleasurable experience in Barcelona. It's like going to a private home.

From the first time I read all the reviews and even more when I looked at the photos of this hotel on the net, I instantly fell in love with Hotel Primero Primera even until now when I'm thousand of miles away. Believe me, all the good things said about this hotel is true. Some people warned you about the location, trust me you will excuse that over the comfort and high level service delivered. It's located at a high end neighborhood and 10 minutes train ride to Plaza Catalunya. Metro station is only 5 minutes walk hence it is not a hassle at all. Otherwise, just call a cab for it is only around EUR 6 -7 to Paseig da Garcia and the surrounding area. There are couple of good places to eat nearby and the staff will be more than happy to point you around. This is a nice 5 stories art deco building, furnished with a very elegant decor. It's simply elegant, reflecting the high taste of the owner. Room is cozy with also a very chic design, comfortable bed awaits us after a long day discovering the city. By the way, those drinks at the fridge is complimentary. Breakfast is simple, but ample for you to choose from and the most importantly in a good quality. Lounge area is a bliss, there's a library equipped with a big screen Mac and complimentary apples, pastries, cookies, tea, coffee and soft drink all day long. Staffs are another gem, friendly and resourceful in a real way. For me, this is a perfect boutique hotel in all sense. Cannot recommend enough to choose this place for your next trip to Barcelona.

Room Tip: Splurge a bit on a Superior room, you will not regret it.

Primero Primera

Hunting for a hotel whose location was far enough removed from the insanely chaotic and touristic Las Ramblas, and yet near enough to city haunts for an easy journey, Primero Primera was a jewel of a find (and thanks to fellow TripAdvisor reports for helping me discover it!). It’s located in a smart neighborhood in the foothills, just a few subway stops from Placa Catalunya. I enjoyed strolling aimlessly, the local cafes, and, especially, the hotel itself.

It is divine. I booked the cheapest possible category, the standard, and was rewarded with a room on a rooftop (all the standards are up here) with our own private outdoor living room, a lovely room – with timbered ceilings – sporting a great bed and bathroom, fantastic ambience. And these were the cheapest rooms in the hotel! I didn’t get a look at some of the more luxe models, but was perfectly happy where I was. One note: There’s only one standard with a tub, in addition to the separate shower; if that matters to you as it did to me, request it with the reservation. Loved the minibar with complimentary juices, soda and water. Loved the free WiFi.

Beyond the room, the hotel is marvelous and homey without being too claustrophobic. There’s plenty of public space for residents; a living room with, apparently, a fireplace (it was rather warm on our stay so it wasn’t in operation) and an honor bar; it’s got great, sprawling leather armchairs, the kind you tuck yourself up into and lose a day just…thinking. There’s also a library/computer room with a fridge full of free beverages. The computer there is free to use. Across the way, there’s a breakfast room/wine bar/gathering room, with lots of mix-matched tables. It’s very pleasant. And there are incredibly lovely outdoor spaces, such as a terrace with dining-size tables and chairs (you can order off the hotel’s limited but solid menu). There’s even a back yard (or garden) with a pool – though in October it wasn’t in much demand.

Service was generally excellent (one mis-step occurred during dinner when the waitress was clearly over-stretched; it would have been nice if the other staffers, hanging around an empty reception desk, had pitched in to help her). Still, after flying in on a red-eye, I appreciated being able to have a quiet dinner in this quiet, lovely place.

I wish there was a hotel like this in every major city in the world! Primero Primera is just the right blend of hospitality, comfort, a hideaway feeling, and yet…within steps of cosmopolitan lures.

We’ll be back, hopefully for a longer stay than just one night.

After doing all the necessary Trip Advisor searching, we were really impressed with this hotel - just what we wanted.
A slight mistake with our booking was soon put right - with a couple of complimentary glasses of wine to make up for it.
What really made it was the staff - they are so helpful with advice, bookings for venues etc.
Hector! You are a star!
We had an attic room - very quiet and obviously, right at the top of the building. Sitting outside at night with a glass of wine.....
Folk we met showed us their 3rd floor room which looked just as good (only more expensive...)
Only downside for us was the dark lighting in our room.
Good food available in the hotel saves going out on the first evening. Complimentary mini bar in the bedroom.
Don't bother with the pool - too cold at this time of year and very small.

Getting into the centre is very quick and cheap. Buy a T-10 1 zone ticket - pass it between the two of you at the gates and its all OK. 9.80 Euros for 10 trips.

Lovely hotel and worth all the fantastic reviews it gets on here.

We stayed in an attic room - (A3) and it was fantastic . You emerge from the lift, go through a door marked private, and only then realise that you're on the top floor of the building, where there's a fantastic open roof seating area. The attic rooms are built into the roof trusses, which makes it unique and a little bit quirky.

Staff are very friendly and take pride in their apperance and nothing seems to be too much trouble for them.

Heard all sorts of 'horror' stories, re Barcelona's pict pocketing issue. To be honest, if anyone is put off by this, then don't be. The city is stunning and if you keep your wits about you, then Barcelona is as safe as any city I've visited. Just don't go about advertising your wallet , purse etc, common sense really!

The tour buses are a fantastic way of getting to see the whole of the city. Not sure why peolpe 'knock' them!

We stayed three days but that wasn't enough time to explore this gorgeous city.

Room Tip: ask for attic room A3
