The hotel is in a great location, with lots of bars, restaurants and shops outside the door. We paid €90 a night for a double room with small balcony/window at end of August. Staff were very helpful and the place was spotless all the time. No fridge in the room and a florescent light but there was a couch, good air con and a strong shower. Would definitely recommended it as a base to explore Barcelona!

Crunched on time after a last minute booking to Barcelona, we turned to Lonely Planet for a hotel recommendation after a late night arrival.
Typically when we look to listings in Lonely Planet, we consider it to be a location recommendation so we booked 2 nights upfront. After arriving, the narrow walk-up staircase and cheap cafeteria felt more like the hostels we were trying to escape versus the hotel upgrade we were seeking. Despite these early warning signs, we foolishly proceeded to pay and step into the elevator that would make a claustrophobic feel like he’s been buried alive…standing up. However, walking into the room was where the [--] really hit the fan. The busted lock on the door, terrible indoor decor, and beds that rivaled the tile floor for comfort were a bad start. The 2ft x 2ft shower required the yoga skills of a stoner hippie, and the drunk at the front desk said he was powerless to refund our money until the managers came back in the morning.
There is no way Lonely Planet isn't getting kickbacks for having this listing. I just think they should include a kickback symbol so readers know what's happening.

Perfect location in Barri Gotic, close to Ramblas, walking distance to many sights, but also relatively quiet. Our rooms were simple, but very clean and everything worked well. Desk staff were friendly and exceptionally helpful. Easy, relatively inexpensive simple food options on the square. Excellent value. Since this is a pedestrian area, I wondered how far we were going to have to drag our bags, but the cab was allowed to drop us at the door.

There is a 6 Euro breakfast, wifi in the breakfast, lounge area. The staff is very helpful and always at the desk. It is an unbeatable location. Safe and clean, in Oriol square with great views, and easy to walk to some major sites of Barcelona.

Very adequate, clean, friendly place to stay if you want to be in the heart of the fascinating Barrio Gotico, very close to Las Ramblas.

Room Tip: Hotel opens onto lovely plaza.

My husband and I had an excellent four night stay at the El Jardi. This was our second visit. We liked our experience so much two years ago that we returned this summer. We stayed in a small exterior room on the fifth floor with a tiny balcony overlooking the plaza. The room was clean and had all the basics. The staff was always ready to help and with a smile. English is spoken at the reception desk making checking in a breeze. One computer is available for guest use. While El Jardi is only a couple minutes from the crowded, noisy and very interesting La Rambla, Plaza del Pi where El Jardi is located is relatively quiet. Cafes and bars are just steps away from the front door. My husband and I plan to stay here when we return to Barcelona.

Room Tip: Exterior rooms with a balcony are the best. Make sure you get a room on a higher floor. We were on...

My husband, daughter and I stayed in a large exterior room (extra bed free of charge) we had a balcony overlooking the plaza and we were delighted. Glad we were on the 6th floor as it did get noisy at night time. I enjoyed the chatter and the music morning and evening whilst getting ready for going out. Room so clean and fresh and cleaners come in each day. Ideal location to get to all the beautiful sites. Easy walk to the tour buses - just everything on your doorstep. 24 steps to reception no problem. Staff so friendly and helpful. I want to go again!

Room Tip: If you enjoy peace and quiet ask for a room on the south side and on a higher floor.
