“Basic clean hotel.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2011

Not the best location but it is situated close to the metro. About a 10 minute uphill walk. From there you can take a straight train to Paseig de Gracia. Not a lot around the hotel so it was quiet. The room was a little small but clean and basic. I found the reception staff to be friendly and helpful.

We stayed at the hotel for four nights on a recent hockey tour of the city . The hotel while basic is perfect for a large party on a trip to the city, the rooms although quite small are clean and the bed is comfortable .

It's probably worth asking for one of the outer rooms, the room we had faced into an interier courtyard which made it quite dark, this really wasn't a problem though for the short time we stayed in the room . The bar area is pleasant enough for a drink, inside or out and the breakfasts were very good .

The area surrounding the hotel is very pleasant and there are a good number of good bars and restaurants as you make the short trip over to the cathedral . The ramblas and the beach are on the underground line very close to the hotel . The tapas bar across the road is
a great spot to introduce yourself to some Spanish food and drink when you arrive .

All in all a perfect base to tour the city on a budget .

Nice. modern hotel in Barcelona. Bit of oa walk to metro but close the Sant pau hospital. Staff were not the friendliest. Thye have an in house restaurant with reasonably priced food but the breakfast buffet was a little expensive.

The Amrey San Pau is situated in a good neighborhood, next door to the Hospital de Sant Pau - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - it is an amazingly beautiful hospital (you can take a tour if you want to). Also within walking distance is Gaudi's masterpiece, Sagrada Familia. There, you can purchase tickets for Barcelona's tour bus for one or two days. I recommend this, as Barcelona is a sprawling city and you get an outdoor flavor of the city with the tourbus.

The Amrey is modern and clean. Front desk staff is courteous and friendly. The room we had was a fair size with a full bathtub. Our room faced the main road and had a nice size balcony with a lovely view. You may want to ask for extra pillows. Not many frills, but adequate. Wifi is free, but you have to get the access code from the front desk.

We enjoyed the small outdoor cafe the hotel offers. You basically order at the bar and they bring the meal out to you or you can eat in the dining area. A very efficient and friendly waitress/cook named Michaela should be commended for her exemplarly work in the hotel's cafe. We did not partake in the hotel's breakfast, as they charged 9 Euros, which seemed rather steep. The dinner menu was affordable and the food was good. Coffee is good and fairly priced.

All in all, you will not be disappointed with the Amrey Sant Pau, as it has all the basic amenities and is fairly priced in a good neighborhood.

I stayed here at the end of June while in Barcelona for a conference. The conference was being held across the street at the beautiful Casa Convalescència (very attractive UNESCO World Heritage site), so the location was ideal. However the quality of the hotel wasn't that great. The room was small, and unwelcoming, with a tiny window at one end, and a tiny, uncomfortable single bed. There was very little closet space. The bathroom was clean, and fine overall. There was no iron and ironing board available, either in the room or from the front desk. The breakfast buffet was decent, though, with a reasonable spread of croissants, meats, and cheeses. The fruit salad tasted as if it was from a can, though. The staff at the front desk were friendly enough and helped a friend and I make a dinner reservation at a nice restaurant for paella (L'Arrós, on Passeig de Joan de Borbó). However, the staff at the neighboring cafe (where breakfast is served) seemed to be constantly depressed and unhappy to be serving anyone. Overall, if you're on a budget then this isn't a bad choice. But if you ready to pay a little more I imagine one can find something quite a bit nicer.

The hotel was very good and staff quite nice but what a surprise when we came back and realized the hotel charged us twice for the night we spend there! I made a reservation and had to give my credit card details as a guarantee. I was asured that the card will not be charged without my authorisation. At the hotel my husband paid for the accommodation with his card and the hotel still charged my card the same amount!! Unfortunately it was not the first time this happened in Spain so beware!

Booked the hotel based on the good reviews on Tripadvisor. When we got to hotel, reception was very warm and friendly. We asked for a room facing the Hospital de Sant Pau and the receptionist reassured us that he had a good room for us. The room was on the top floor and from there up another flight of steps which initially got me slightly concerned. But we opened the room - it was good size, cozy, good double bed and the bathroom/toilet was immaculate. The best bit was - I thought it was just going to be a little window facing the beautiful Sant Pau hospital - but upon drawing the curtains, we stepped onto a wide balcony with chairs and table to lounge on whist taking in the amazing view.
The reception later pointed us to a few tapas bars nearby as that was what we meant to go to Spain for. The tapas, as I had anticipated, were divine. I knew the Sagrada Familia was within walking distance from the hotel but in fact it was only about 10mins walk away. So I'd say a superb location in that respect. However it in the centre (La Rambla) where everything is but it's only a few metro stops away. Bought the T-10 ticket based on Tripadvisor advise as well which served us very well indeed.
The only thing was that personally, we like thicker/bigger pillows as the ones in the room were slightly flat. Nonetheless we asked the reception for extra pillows which they graciously obliged us with. Also could do with slightly better directions to the hotel on the website (although it was relatively easy to find on Googlemaps). Finally, perhaps the hotel could consider room service?
Also very impressive was that the room was cleaned everyday when we were away - they never disturbed us when we were in the room but once we got back from city sightseeing, it's like little elves had come to clean the room. Superb.
Overall I have to say, the hotel was absolutely superb - all the basic things you need from a hotel. Good value for money (for Barca standards and close to town and on Easter weekend!) Totally recommend it.
