Stayed here over the weekend for a break with friends.
I chose this hotel for its central location and reasonable price.

Transfer
From the airport we got the Aerobus which departs just outside arrivals. A return ticket was just under 10 Euros and it took about 25 minutes to Plaça Catalunya. The hotel is about a 1 - 2 minute walk from here.

Location
The hotel is just next to La Rambla which leads down to the Harbour. On the same street as the Hotel were a few cafés and shops.

Hotel
The hotel was clean and had a classic style which I personally found quite appealing.

Room
Our twin room was an adequate size and was located on the third floor with a view of a surrounding street. The bathroom had toiletries and clean towels. The room had just enough storage for a weekend break. There was a TV but we didn’t use it. There is a safe in the room and costs 1.5 Euros per night. The mattresses were very firm.

Staff
The staff were friendly and informative on arrival. If we needed any advice they were happy to help.

Misc
- The tourist tax is 0.75 Euros per person per night for this Hotel payable on departure.
- If you are returning to the Hotel late at night / early morning be aware of unsavoury characters at the end of the street where it meets La Rambla. We saw unaware tourists talking to them who may have found their money and phones missing when they returned home. Not at all a reflection of the Hotel but just be aware!
- Take a walk to Boqueria Market for a look around and some Tapas.

Overall
Overall Barcelona was a fantastic city for a weekend break, especially with the warm weather and great food and drink. We found most of the people friendly and genuine; just keep your wits about you and your belongings safe.

We knew the reviews for this hotel were mixed before we booked, but ours was a short notice break for half term so we couldn't be too fussy. First off, the location is unbeatable - just two minutes off La Ramblas and very near the Metro. The staff are articulate and friendly. The hotel could benefit from some carpeting, at least in the corridors to reduce the echoing noise noted in other reviews. Our room had one uncomfortable bed out of three and during the night the water pipes would 'knock' which was irritating. The breakfast at 10 euros each was basic but adequate, although the cooked section was only scrambled egg (ok), sausages in hot water (ugh!) and unappetising white beans.

It would do for a short break but any longer the failings would add up.

We booked a three day city break with Thomas Cook and picked this hotel for its central and quiet location. The hotel is 5 a minute walk from placa de catalunya and 50 metres from La Rambls. The room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the quiet front passage with lovely balconies. The room was beautifully decorated and very clean. The bathroom was spotless and there was always a constant supply of hot water, especially when showering. Towels were changed daily. I have to agree that the beds were on the hard side but i find that no matter where you go you will never find a bed as comfy as your own. Whilst there were no tea & coffee making facilities in the room, there is a coffee machine in the lobby but to be honest we were never in need of it in the room. Breakfast was a plentiful continental buffet which really could not be faulted. I found the reception staff extremely helpful and attended to our lack of heating very promptly and provided my wife with an extra pillow as requested. I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel to anybody, a lovely olde worlde type building with superb decor. We will go back.

We chose this hotel solely because of the reviews on Tripadvisor but we were very disappointed.
We booked a standard double room and were given a room with very hard twin beds.
The hotel is very poorly built, we could hear people talking in the room opposite, the walls were so thin if you closed your eyes it sounded as if they weren't there at all.
The twin beds were so hard we may as well have been sleeping on the floor, when we complained we were told that they changed the beds every six months and that they were adequate.
The only thing separating the bed area from the toilet / bathroom was a glass wall with a glass sliding door that lit up the entire room when the light was on in the bathroom and vibrated when the toilet was flushed, if you wake easily to light and noise this is a nightmare, however it wouldn't be a problem in this room as you wouldn't be able to sleep anyway.
Then there was the police and a guest shouting at each other at 2.00am.

After the most uncomfortable night I have ever spent in any hotel, not being able to sleep due to both the very hard twin beds and the noise, we were eventually told by the very stern and articulate manager that they didn't have many rooms with double beds and my wife and I would have to spend our valentine weekend in twin beds.
We were however told that we could upgrade for an added cost of £60.00 to a better room, but not until the next day, on checking the room it was better, it had a balcony and a double bed so we thought that it would be worth the extra money.

Having had a lovely night out in Barcelona (even though I did catch a thief trying to pick my pocket 300 yards from the hotel) we went back to our room to find a cockroach running around the room, having trapped the roach I went down to complain and was told by a very nice lady that she was on her own and there was nothing she could do but would make a note of it, so I threw it over the balcony and hoped it or its mates didn't come back.
Small things were:
The showers in both rooms pulsed hot and cold.
The pillows were so flat they gave my wife neck ache.
There was no bar, no tea or coffee in the room, there was no room service we could find, no welcome pack or notes on how to use the air con or the TV and no remote for the TV without a deposit of £20.00.
All in all a very disappointing hotel even though it was only a three star we expected a much better experience.
I would recommend Barcelona, the Gaudi architecture was incredible.
However I would very strongly recommend you avoid this hotel.

Room Tip: If you must stay at this hotel do not go for a standard room. Make sure you specifically ask for a...

We stayed at the Nouvel as a weekend away for our family. The location is absolutely perfect, right in the middle of things, close to the bus stops and metro. From the moment we walked through the door we were made to feel really welcome, the reception staff took time to talk to our son and were very helpful with telling us information about the city, travel etc.

The room we had was gorgeous, we had 2 balconies which we enjoyed sitting out in the morning sunshine on. t was a big room with lots of space for the 3 of us. Yes you do have to pay a deposit for the remote control but it is a DEPOSIT, i.e return the remote get your money back! This is not the first hotel i have stayed in where you have to do this and there obviously is a reason they do. The TV has only a couple of english speaking channels but we were there for sightseeing and to experience the hotel not to sit in and watch TV.

The hotel itself is beautiful full of old features and spotlessly clean. My husband wasn't a great fan of the breakfast but he just popped to the cafe nearby. Whilst we were there our flight got delayed due to a strike and we stayed an extra night, the staff could not have been more helpful and made sure we had everything we needed and helped check transfers etc.

We would stay here again and would recommend this hotel to families.

Room Tip: we had a room at the front of the hotel

The main attraction of this hotel is its location - located just off Las Ramblas and therefore brilliant for exploring. Hotel is 'old worldy' but very clean and charming. All in all a great base for explorng Barcelona!
