Booked for a short stay while participting in the Bareclona Marathon.

Arriving late (10pm) was not an issue and the room although small (the cat has a bashed head) was clean and comfortable. Shower was decent. Didnt pay a lot for the room and didnt expect too much either but better than what i thought we'd get. Easy enough to find - look on google street view. Bus from airport (aerobus) drops you of at the Plaça de Catalunya then its a quick ten minute walk down the Ramblas.

Noise. Noise is an issue. Mentioned in several reviews here - the hotel isnt noisy just the area but this is to be expected. Its just off the Ramblas but seems to be a cut through to somewhere popular. Noisy. Lots of people and if youve been to Spain before; the locals speak very loudly. And Barcelona is a city that never sleeps. Still people enjoying themeselves when we left for the marathon at 7am on Sunday. Even wearing good fitting earplugs it was still noisy.

The night guy wasnt over-friendly, just seemed pre-occupied with whatever was on his computer screen but the day staff was very friendly and accomodating.

Lockers and security boxes are available and are very cheap - lockers were only 2 euros for the stay (we checked out before the marathon but left our bags there all day).

Beware of the cafe at the corner - dont ask for just a beer! They will bring you a big tankard and charge you 10 euros for it. Food isnt that good either. Go digging about in the Gothic area and you'll find lots of places that are better and cheaper. In fact, just avoid anything on the Ramblas - tourist trap. Go Gothic!

Barcelona is an amazing and unless your planning to spend a lot of time in your hotel room (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) this is a decent, cheap place for a quick weekend in Barca.

Room Tip: Try and get a room at the back. Probably quiter than the street facing ones.

Just back from a trip to Spain that included two nights at Hostal Operaramblas. Great location just off the Ramblas at the Liceu metro station. Good deal considering prices in Barcelona. Rooms were clean and efficient, clean bathroom as well. Staff was friendly, wifi is free in the lobby. No frills but definitely adequate and I would recommend it as a place to stay. The only drawback was the noise - not the outdoor Barcelona noise but the lack of insulation between rooms. We could hear someone in the next room unzip their suitcase. Bring earplugs - otherwise great.

While there was much to like about Hostal Opera Ramblas, the best thing was its location. Being just a couple blocks from the activity of the Ramblas as well as a subway station was a great convenience in seeing the city. We also loved that it was close to the huge food market where we could pick up a meal or some snacks for the day. The hotel is plain but clean and has a spacious business center with a computer for hire plus nice tables in case you take your own technology. There was no TV in our room, but there's a large one in the community area. We really enjoyed having use of the elevator for transporting our luggage or just for avoiding the stairs after walking all day. Front desk staff was reserved but very well informed and helpful. If you want to sightsee rather than hang out in a hotel room, we recommend Hostal Opera Ramblas. Note re Barcelona in general (or any other large city)....take every measure to protect yourself from pickpockets. If you don't know how, google it. Hotel staff can also make suggestions.

We arrived after a very long flight from Los Angeles to Hostal Opera hoping for a quiet, clean and comfortable place to leave our things and feel safe in at night while we rested.... this was not it. The rooms are ancient... the photos on their site are misleading. The bed was old and probably full of bed bugs... the bathroom was the best part of the room. And although you expect a lot of life in the surrounding areas (you are at Ramblas after all) the tiny alleyway the hostal is located in is full of interesting characters... loud people and leaves you with a very uncomfortable feeling. We walked down Ramblas and checked out one of the hotels. The room was clean and much more comfortable and quiet so we quickly cancelled our stay at the Hostal and moved our luggage and ourselves to Hotel Arc de Ramblas. Much better and only 20 more euro for the night.

Room Tip: Anywhere else but here.

Will only corroborate what others have written for the most part. Would definitely recommend Hostal Opera Ramblas for people just looking for a clean, safe place to sleep while spending most of their time out in Barcelona. Located right by Liceu Metro station on the Ramblas. Near La Boqueria outdoor market. I had a single with private bath with a window looking out onto the inner courtyard/air space. Quiet, didn't hear neighbors. Furnishings are as others have described; like a college dormitory room. No TV, but wi-fi worked for me. Stayed here once before about 7 years ago; still holds up now. Only negatives are that they will charge you in full for the first night once you make your booking (theoretically refundable) and will want you to settle your final bill the night before your departure.
