I dont usually stay in hostels, but we picked this one because we knew we would not be spending anymore time in it than necessary - Barcelona is too lovely to stay in a hostel!

Room was small and bathroom even smaller but was more than enough to sleep ans shower.

Staff friendly and helpful.

Location is great - 1 minute and you are in a busy street of Barcelona with many places to eat and drink :) Close to metro as well.

I was immediately put off by this hotel based on it's seedy location. While Las Ramblas can feel a bit sleazy at times and we expected this much in Spain's major party capital, I felt this was especially true about the hotel's street. My husband was approached by a hooker just a few steps away from the hotel's doors! Despite the room being clean and satisfying all of our basic needs, it was not a place you'd want to spend anytime--not even to rest your feet for a a few minutes (for 90 euros a night that's no fun). I spent as much time out of the room as possible especially because there was only one tiny window for light and zero noise barriers between rooms and the hallway. The hotel had a big lounge on the first floor where we hung out if we needed a break from touring the city. We also had negative experiences with the hotel staff. One night we asked the front desk worker for a dinner recommendation and he could barely give us an answer or quality directions--very disappointing, esp. when we asked politely and were trying to get an authentic Spanish meal. When we were trying to figure out how to get to the airport, we again got very little helpful advice from the front desk. Only after we asked him two times did he provide us with the information we requested. While the hotel was sufficient for exploring a new city, I would not want to stay there ever again. It was overpriced and did not add anything to a cultural experience of Barcelona.

more that what you expect from a 2 stars hostal. it is very clean with friendly staff. very nice room and very good location as it is 1 min walking from la ramblas and the nearest metro station. all what you need for your stay in barcelona with a veryy good price. we only missed the breakfast as no restaurant in the hostal.

Room was clean when we got there. They don't clean the room til you check out. For the price, I don't expect full service but I expected they cleaned the rooms everyday. Room and bathroom were big. From ramblas, you kind of have to go through a small dark alley to get to the hotel. From Placa Catalunya to hotel, a bit of a walk. There's access to the train at the corner of the hotel alley and Ramblas though. But only used the train once since we almost got robbed when we used it. There's free wi-fi, TV and vending machines in the common area. Use of computer, with fees. Hair dryer is available upon request. Will definitely look for another hotel when I go back to Barcelona. But if I get too lazy to do that, won't mind staying in Hostal Opera again.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights during a vacation in Spain. We loved the location. It's just steps from Las Ramblas, but just far enough away that it wasn't noisy. (We were on the third floor, facing the street, and were not bothered by noise.) Note that Las Ramblas is an extremely busy, extremely touristy location, so if you're looking for something else, look elsewhere. We asked for a "queen" bed, which turned out to be two single beds. (We were able to push them together with minimal hassle.) I looked at a couple of other rooms, and all of the "queen" rooms seem to consist of two beds, not one.

The room was decent sized for a Euro budget hotel, with the two beds, one very small desk, and a wardrobe that can be used for a clothing. There is no closet and no TV, which was fine for us. The bathroom was actually pretty nice, with ceramic tile and a shower (no tub). There was a small balcony, also. The room was clean and nice, overall.

The front desk service was fine, no problems. Note that you have to leave your key with the desk staff every time you leave the hotel, and there is only one key per room, which can be a bit of a hassle for two or more people. There is a small grocery store just outside, and a few vending machines in the lobby.

Probably the main drawback is that the hotel essentially lacks internet service. There is no service at all in the rooms, but free wifi service in one room off the lobby. When this free service was working, it was extremely slow, and it often did not work at all. For some people, that's not a big deal, for others it might be a dealbreaker. Just realize that you will have spotty or no internet service if you stay here. That made things a bit difficult when trying to look up things like the hours of a museum, or directions to a particular place.

All in all, if you're looking for a clean, decent room in a great location, you could do worse than staying here. If you're looking for anything beyond the basics, you might try somewhere else.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor

Excellently located just off Las Ramblas, near the markets & the Barri Gotic. The rooms were quite spacious for budget accommodation & did not experience any of the noise problems others have complained about (we were located on the 4th floor which may have been why). Great value accommodation.

Good location off the Rambla, 20 metres from Liceu metro station. It is clean enough and has adequate shower. Has lift and free wifi in lounge. Sometimes noisy, but not too bad. Reception staff not really helpful, on one occasion rude. Hot and cold drinks machine at reception. Local market 30 metres away and Carrefour Express about 50 metres.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the courtyard at the back
