“Great central location and very clean.”
Reviewed June 22, 2013 via mobile

8 of us have just come back from a stay in the Rialto and must admit after reading the reviews was a bit concerned. I had no need to be as it was perfect. Perfect central location in a beautiful area of the Barri Gotic, on a lovely street the hotel is very clean, rooms are perfect for a city break as you only spend a short time in them, cleaned every day with clean linen and towels. The breakfast is fab, plenty of choice and staff helpful. I wouldn't hesitate going to back to this hotel. It also has a great bar next door which do the best Gin & Tonics!!!

Location of this hotel couldn't have been more perfect as Gargallo Rialto is situated in the Barri Gotic, between La Rambla and Plaça de Sant Jaume, on Carrer de Ferran near Placa Reial (the best area for nightlife) and at a few minutes’ walk from the sea (Port Vell), Cathedral of Barcelona and from Placa Catalunya where you can take the hop-on-hop-off bus or the shuttle bus to the airport. The duble standard rooms are very small but clean; bathrooms are large, clean, recently renovated, with hairdryer and cosmetics. Towels were changed every day but the ventilation is a bit noisy. Standard rooms with twin beds are larger; the LCD TV has only Spanish channels. Even though the hotel is located in an animated area, the windows overlook the courtyard so the nights are quiet. This hotel is rather recommended for young people, who need a clean place to sleep but in the middle of everything.

After reading some traveller trips here on Tripadvisor I emailed the hotel prior to my trip to request a room on the top floor of the hotel that is away from the lifts. The hotel replied acknowledging my request. However upon check-in we were allocated a room (510) that was not on the top floor and directly adjacent to the lifts.

Upon entering the room it was pitch dark. That's when it dawned on us there was no window. Well I lie a little - there was a window - it just overlooked a pitch black internal ventilation shaft. So a tiny room with no natural light; it felt like we were in a walk-in wardrobe.

Went back down to reception to ask for a room with a window (what a privilege I know) and the person behind the desk told us there would be no other rooms available until the next day and gave us breakfast vouchers as "compensation".

A very uncomfortable night ensued in our warm stuffy dark wardrobe of a room. Throughout the night we were disturbed by people exiting, entering and waiting for lifts.

The next day we were switched over to room 427, which was much nicer and had a window (wow)! It felt like a completely different hotel. Sound too good to be true? It was. At around 9pm a very strong foul smell of sewage started to emanate from the bathroom. By midnight we couldn't take it any more. There was no chance we could get to sleep - it was borderline noxious.

Back down to speak to reception. The man behind the desk laughed and pointed out we had already switched rooms once and went on this massive pantomime on how the hotel was full before magically 'finding' an unoccupied room for us.

So our third room now, room 608. Another dark small room that wasn't too dissimilar to our first room (very small frosted window covered with bars this time). Luckily it was our last night in Barcelona and owed to our bad experience in Hotel Rialto, I was really pleased that our holiday was coming to an end.

The ONLY saving grace for this hotel is it's very central location, which perhaps makes it worthy of a one-star rating.

Room Tip: If you are unable to avoid this hotel, at least make sure you get a room with a window.

Stayed here for 3 nights in February, booked through Easyjet Holidays. Perfect location for sightseeing around Barcelona, close to Marina, bars, restaurants, etc, and everything else pretty much within walking distance. The hotel is very basic but clean. It's not the sort of place I would choose to stay in if I was planning on spending any time relaxing in my hotel room, I see it as purely functional, a clean place to get a basic breakfast, sleep in a clean bed and shower, while the rest of the day and evening is spent outside exploring. Our room was characterless but perfectly adequate. As others have mentioned, staff on reception were not the most enthusiastic or helpful but I wasn't there to spend my holiday with them anyway! There seem to be a lot of groups of students staying at the hotel and on one night in particular a group that had just arrived were very noisey, shouting, screaming, banging doors until the early hours. No one at the hotel seemed to be bothered and did nothing to ask them to calm down. The acoustics of the hotel mean that the sound seems to carry a long way. Bit annoying. Anyway, if you just want somewhere simple and in a great location for a sightseeing trip this is the hotel for you. I would certainly use it again.

Can't fault this hotel, location was great a short walk to las Ramblas and the harbour.
Room was a bit small and the view wasn't great but the bathroom all newly done, but I was not worried about that. Breakfast choice was brilliant plenty to choose from. Would defiantly stay there again.

Room Tip: Do not ask for the front of the hotel, as this can be loud due to being on the road.

Great location just 100 meters from La Rambla in the popular gothic area. Near metro, Picasso museum, the harbour etc. You cannot find a hotel located better!
We had written the hotel beforehand and asked for a room with 3 single beds, which we got. Clean and small room on the fourth floor. Nice personel in the reception.
The breakfast buffet was OK, but lacked a better selection.
I can highly recommend this hotel because of the great location and the nice, small and clean rooms.

The hotel has a good location just a couple of minutes from the Ramblas and other interesting places. The room was small but good enough for the 3 nights we were there. The bathroom was very clean and had just been refurbished. The general cleanliness of the room was very good.
The breakfast was very disappointing in that the lay out to help yourself was very congested which meant you had to queue up for tea & coffee and get in the way of others trying to get their food, The choice of food at breakfast was OK.
On our first night we were decided to eat in the hotel as it was raining very hard and we did not want to get too wet. The restaurant showed that it closed at 10pm so we went down at 9.15 only to be told by a very unfriendly waiter that the restaurant was closed. I went and complained to the manager who informed me that no the restaurant was still serving and he phoned down and we were told that we could go and eat. The food arrived and was not very hot and not up to the standard we expected.

Overall the location is great, the rooms are clean, but the staff we encountered were not very helpful. I would stay there again but not eat there. I would go out for breakfast as there are many places just a couple of minutes away that serve a good breakfast without all the hassle.

As a final point the lifts were hopeless. If you are on the upper floors then you will have a long wait even in the not so busy times.
