My friend and I travelled to Barcelona for my birthday and were initially concerned after we booked it...and read some reviews. The hotel seems to have taken heed of the older reviews, as for the price, you couldnt really fault the hotel.
The rooms were very clean, the beds really comfortable, a few english channels on the TV for when you come in shattered!
It is about 10 minute stroll, or less at a good pace, to Las Ramblas, so is generally pretty quiet, especially in the weekends, weekdays are busier on the streets but busy in the hotel.
The breakfast had everything you could want. WIFI is available with daily codes from the reception.
We asked for a quiet room, on booking, at the back of the hotel and we had totally undisturbed sleep.

If i had to find something to complain about, it would be a little patch of peeling wallpaper at the top of the wall. A small patch and i only noticed as I led down exhausted.

Tip-fit a travel kettle and teabags so you can have a tea in your room...european hotels never have them. We also picked up a litre of milk at the local shop which we popped in the little fridge in the room. Also, if you happen to like gin with your tea, a bottle of tanquery is only £10 so pop one of them in there also!

Room Tip: ask for a quiet room and pack a travel kettle and teabags for a decent morning cupper!

17 of us booked the Tryp Apolo for a friends birthday for 4 nights. It was an ideal location as we wanted to be near everything. Rooms were comfortable and cleaned every day, breakfast was brilliant with lots to eat and choose from. Reception and hotel staff were really friendly. I would definately recommend it for a short break.

Booked the Tryp Apolo last minute and got a triple room which was very spacious and very clean. Close to metro and Las Ramblas and plenty of cheap bars The Stage is just around the back of hotel and we stayed in there all afternoon on bottles of lager for 1 euro before gettin a taxi to the Nou Camp. Can be noisy if ur a light sleeper wasnt a problem for us though

Me and my wife were at Tryp Apolo from 10th till 15th of March. The hotel has everything what you need for a pleasant few days stay - nice and clean rooms, iron and coffee/tea facilities in the room and something I appreciated very much - free Wi-Fi and safe box in the room. The bed and the pillows were very comfortable and we slept really good. Smooth check-in at 10.00 p.m., friendly and helpful staff, good variety on breakfast, even espresso automate. Now our room looked to the inner courtyard, so it was quite but I can imagine that the rooms looking to the main street are very noisy as the walls are very thin and you can hear everything from your neighbors. Excellent location next to the metro and 10 minutes walking distance from the Colom Statue.

Be careful when you decide to choose the shortcut through the small streets to the Ramblas after 9.00 p.m. These are streets with mainly small shops and cafes hold by men from (I suppose) North Afrika, India, Pakistan etc. After dark there are some very suspicious looking persons walking around in these streets (in the Ramblas as well), hookers, drug dealers etc. They don't do anything except trying to get in conversation with you, but anyway you don't feel like being in a civilized city. Therefore take the main road to the port and then turn right to the Ramblas.

One more tip for those who are going to visit Montjuic and think (like my wife) that the cable car from the port looks too scaring to try it. There is a small train from the metro station next to the hotel called Funicular, there are signs everywhere, so with the metro ticket you can use this train to go up (it goes through a tunnel and departures every 10 minutes I think). From the station up, there is another cable car going to the castle (price is 10.00 Euro for the return and about 7.00 Euro in one direction). This cable car looks pretty normal and takes you in only few minutes to the castle. But if you don't mind climbing, you can walk up through the gardens, very relaxing and enjoyable, it is only 15 minutes walk and it is not so steeply as we thought.

When I come to Barcelona, I will definitely choose this hotel again.

TRYP APOLO BARCELONA..A great choice, very convenient, superb breakfasts, good size bedrooms.... getting to the hotel is very simple.. from the airport take the aerobus(light blue)A2
into the city .. drops off at the plaza catalunya in the heart of the city... head for the nearest METRO.. look for the green line L3 for PARAL-LEL... the hotel is at the side of the METRO Station.. Perfect!....There are plenty of small restaurants close by.. but the Famous LA RAMBLAS is only a ten minute walk away, here there is an abundance of TAPAS bars.. and also the market La Bogueria.... A couple of MUST DO'S are the CAMP NOU F.C. Barcelona(football fan or not) and the SAGRADA FAMILIA.. Simlpy Stunning sight.. apart from the cranes!!
Also the Marina PORT VELL and the nearby BEACH BACELONETA are a relief from the hussle and bussle of the city... TRYP is good value for money..

Just returned ( 15.03.2013 ) from 2 day short break at Tryp Apolo, Barcelona. On a positive the hotel is clean, spacious and located in a fantastic spot for sightseeing, however the hotel is starting to show it's age more so in the bath room where the tiles need attention hence in our opinion is the hotel is nearer a 3 star grade. The half board food options in the restaurant is very poor on our first night both our meals were over cooked and could not be eaten, the breakfast menu was excellent and various options were available We were located on the 4th floor and the noise level from road traffic or people loitering out side was a nightmare resulting in us being lucky if we got 2 to 3 hours sleep each night. We found the reception staff un helpful I tried to get an upgrade but was tild this was not available. Overall very dissapointed and will NOT be returning to the Tryp Apolo.

Room Tip: If you want to be able to sleep at night ask for an inside room

Second time in Tryp Apolo and pleased to see that standards were kept high. There was a problem with the booking and had to wait for about half hour for the staff to look it into it.Waiting was rewarded with a superior room to the one I had initially booked.Clean, well provided rooms(including kettle, ironing board),didnt book breakfast this time as there s so much variety and places around the hotel for less than half the price.
Good location, right next to La Rambla and the port, easy to get to and from airport too if you don't mind a 15mins stroll from Plaça Catalunya down to La Rambla. All in all good value for money.
