“Good, but noisy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 12, 2014 via mobile

Hotel was nice and modern and in a fantastic location, couple of minutes from la rambla and right next to a metro station (parralell). Staff were friendly and helpful. The thing stopping the hotel getting a 5* was purely down to the constant noise from the elevator motor.
If the hotel could sort this out it would be a 5* easily!!

I have recently returned from a 4 day break in Barcelona and can say that I am not disappointed in the choice of hotel.

Location
The hotel is in a central location, easy access to the paral-lel metro station (ticket for the metro was 25.5euros for the 4 days we were there, you can buy these from the metro station machines from your first day) getting to the hotel from the airport was easy too (aerobus 5.90euros one way and takes 10/15 mins to the first stop plaza espanya where you get off and then the hotel is two
stops on the metro.) It's also very close to La Rambla and many restaurants & bars.

Hotel staff
We're amazing and always happy to help. If you have any questions about the local area they will answer and completely approachable. They also have a sense of humour.

Rooms
The rooms were very clean. Nice size for the amount of time we were there. For you chill out time after all the walking there is a tv, my other half managed to get some of the programmes which were in Spanish to play in English which was great. Free safety deposit box which is always a plus. Switch by the bed to play music in bedroom area & bathroom. Minibar in room if you want to spend money on that (lots of local supermarkets if not.) I have seen people complain about the busy road outside but we didn't find this a problem!

Hotel facilities
We did not use the pool, although popped up to see it, quite small but would be nice for a dip in the summer, lots of deck chairs and a nice view. Gym again didn't use. Bar area looked nice but we tended to head out.

Any problems?
I only have two small things to say which did not really cause us any issues but just thought I would mention. There were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room which was a bit annoying but not a problem for the length of time. Our room was also near the lifts which meant you could hear the ding and chatting of other guests but again this did not at all ruin our stay.

Overall
Great hotel to choose when staying in Barcelona and I would definitely recommend to others. If returning to Barcelona I would stay here again

Stayed here with friends for a girls weekend away. Hotel is in a good location, about 10 min walk to Las Ramblas, 15 minute walk to EL Barri Gotic (fantastic bars and tapas restaurants) and right next Paral-lel Metro station which takes you to Placa de Catalunya (main square at the end of Las Ramblas) and Espana metro stations where you can pick up the airport shuttle.

Rooms and bathrooms were a decent size and clean and staff were friendly. I would suggest however that you ask for a room that doesn't face the street as the hotel is on a busy street and can be quite noisey. I would also suggest you ask for a room NOT on level 1 as this is where the breakfast room is and gets very noisey from 7am!

Overall, it was a good hotel and good value.

This hotel seems to have improved a lot compared to previous reviews.

There are several very good restaurants close to this hotel and the ramblas is not too far to walk to.

There is a metro station right outside the door that gives good access to all of the attractions around the city.

We had breakfast during our stay but this was not excellent as the cooked breakfast was not of a great standard.

The room was great. Large and very clean with nice fittings.

Staff were all very friendly and only too happy to help. We were met from the taxi and given help with our luggage.

Whilst the area the hotel is in does not have all the major attractions on the doorstep, the area is fine and good transport is only a few metres away.

Just returned from a great 4 day city break in Barcelona. The hotel has been recently renovated and is immaculate. The rooms are really well appointed and design well thought out. I have stayed in some of the best hotels in the world and struggled at times to find a socket to charge our ever growing electrical items. Not here my only complaint was our free WIFI was a bit hit and miss.

Great location with good connections around the city.
On the edge of the Old Town and easy walking distance to all that's contained in that area.
Loads of good resturants and bars nearby, the bad ones seen to be around the La Rambla.
Friendly and helpful staff, good decor in the rooms, just missed having a kettle in the room that's all. We had a great time.

We visited Barcelona in January this year and stayed for 3 nights at the Barcelona Universal Hotel which we found extremely comfortable, clean, well maintained and in a perfect location. Upon arrival in Barcelona airport we purchased a €5.90 ticket for the Aerobus which took us to Plaza Espana where we purchased a €25 4 day Metro travel card and jumped on the Metro to Paral lel which is directly outside the hotel, on our return journey we reversed the route which only cost another €5.90 for the Aerobus between Plaza Espana and the airport. Throughout the rest of our stay we used the Metro to get to various places such as Camp Nou, Sagrarda Familia, Barcelona Zoo and other shorter journeys. There was a lot of talk about pick pockets operating in Barcelona but I didn't feel that my possessions were at any more risk than they are in the City of London, obviously this doesn't mean you can be careless.

One thing to note for the return journey if your travelling with Easy Jet, the terminal C is completely separate from the main airport and if you arrive on the Aerobus you will need to walk left as you get off the bus and keep going along the road for 200m-300m to reach the terminal building.
