Stayed there for 3 nights. Was visiting Barcelona for the first time and did a lot of sightseeing during the day. Hotel was mainly to sleep during the evenings. For this purpose, Barcelona Universal fit the bill perfectly. When I arrived, the front desk pointed me to a few interesting areas around town to visit. For me, a lot of them were walkable - maximum about 20 minutes one way. If you're too tired at the end of the day, a quick train ride to Parallel train station will bring you back to the doorstep of the hotel. :)

Room wise - it comes with the standard fittings. You can also get internet access from the rooms. Connections are ok. I note that it's not common practice in Spain to provide drinking water in the room so we had to scout around for a supermarket to buy drinking water.

As for dining, I didn't see any interesting options immediately around the hotel. From the hotel, I walked several evenings to The El Born and La Barceloneta areas for dinner. It's manageable in the cool evenings - but the walk takes probably about 20 minutes one way along the sea front promenade.

Thanks to Francisco Molina, front desk manager, our four day stay in Barcelona was magnificent.
We enjoyed all of the touristy things this beautiful city has to offer, but it was all,the individual help provided by Francisco at the front desk that will always be remembered.

if you could move this hotel to Las Ramblas, it would be perfect. The Placa Real on Las Ramblas near the hotel was fantastic for dinners and people watching. Very near the hotel and two blocks from the mercado. Enjoy! October 2013

We enjoyed our stay here, but found our room, which faced the busy thoroughfare on which it was located, noisy until almost midnight. If you're a light sleeper, ask for a room not facing the street. The staff was helpful and even let me use their computer behind the desk to print tickets ( their free business center did not have printing capabilities). Our inclusive breakfasts were a nice way to start the day and the rooftop pool (which had fantastic, almost 360 degree views of the city) was a great place to unwind after a busy sightseeing day. Be advised, this is a business-oriented hotel, so there are not some of the amenities you might find in other hotels...such as a restaurant. And their small bar (which personally I liked) is almost an afterthought. The hotel is NEAR the Ramblas, but not just around the corner as some reviewers have alluded to. It's about a 12 minute walk.

We stayed in this hotel for 3 days. All the staff spoke English which was great and one staff member in particular, Carlos, was so helpful, kind and friendly. We had the misfortune of the airline mislaying our bags and he did all the talking over the phone to them as we couldn't speak much Spanish and was very sympathetic and seemed to help a lot more than the other staff members. He helped us in every way and gave by far the best service you could ever ask for.

Barcelona however, on the whole, is not a nice place at all, the streets are filled with prostitutes, urine, rubbish, graffiti is everywhere and the main thing you have to constantly look out for is pickpockets and muggings as this is a SEVERE problem there.

Another issue is that you are constantly getting ripped off by restaurants &those alike, whom seem to charge what ever they want, for example 18 euros for 2 baguettes an 2 cans of soft drink. I worked out that if you wanted to feed 2 people for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 7 days it would be 630 euros, and that isn't including alcoholic drinks!

The only good thing about the time we spent there was the hotel, and thank god because everything else was an absolute joke. You can barely cross the road without nearly getting run over! The taxis are absolutely extortionate (26euro from the airport to the hotel-SO BEWARE) DO NOT TAKE ANY TAXIS! Plus they put extra 'tax' on going to airports or ports, which is about 6euros. Also the taxi drivers hardly speak a word of English.

It is so unfortunate as the hotel is so lovely, but it is in the worst location (Barcelona) ever! The rooms are nice and comfortable and you have access to a safe, and they provide a daily maid service, shampoos, soaps, towels etc. Another issue, is the fact that the TV in the rooms show mainly Spanish programs with no subtitles for English, so if you want to watch the TV the only thing you will be able to watch is 'BBC World', which repeats itself quite often which is a bit annoying. The gym is actually really tiny, as is the swimming pool (which is not open in winter months). We didn't eat in the restaurant as there wasn't much choice and was far too expensive (not that it matters as EVERYWHERE in Barcelona is rip-off prices!)

As for sleeping, we found that in the morning there is a lot of banging about and lots of noise from the upper floors, which is fine if your an early riser; however we are not and therefore kept getting woken up, which was a bit annoying. They do have air con and heating, but it is impossible to figure out how to put the heating on I must say!

On the whole, I WOULD defiantly recommend this hotel, but I would NOT recommend Barcelona unfortunately so please think twice about this destination, and don't even get me started on the Airport and 'Iberia' airline, just hope that your bags don't get 'lost', or even if you know they are there-you will never get them back! Please remember that Los Ramblas is a massive tourist trap and it shows in the prices...Also you can't walk past a restaurant without the staff trying to get you in there! They all stand outside, so you can't just casually browse the menu before them telling you everything they do and what-not, just to charge you something different when the 'check' comes!

We never got to do any activities as they were too expensive the tour bus 25 euros each, and 25 euros each to enter the football stadium. After all the money spent on the extortionate food, taxis and buses there wasn't much left...!

It is a shame for the hotel to be in Barcelona, because as I said it is lovely. So if you really must go to Barcelona, and I really mean 'must'! Then this is the hotel for you... But to be honest we couldn't wait to get home....

We stayed in a triple room, which was spacious and comfortable.
All members of staff were friendly and helpful. We ate once in the restaurant, which was good and there were several other places to eat within a short walk.

There is a metro stop just outside the front door and many tourist attractions are within easy walking distance. As a party of three women, though, we didn't feel comfortable going down the streets between the hotel and thesis tourist areas at night.

Fantastic hotel, just around the corner from Las Ramblas, friendly staff. This is the second time we have used this hotel, very clean, boutique style. It costs about 5 Euros on the bus from the airport ,but you have about another 10 minutes walk on top of that.It costs 40 euros in a taxi and not far from the cruise terminal, ideal hotel if you have a cruise planned as it is very central. After a 5 minute walk you can catch the tour buses for 26 euros that will take you to all the landmarks including the fabulous cathedrals. We never ate in the hotel as around the corner from Las Ramblas which is wall to wall restaurants and shops, but be careful when using the seating on the streets as you pay extra(2 beers were 19 euros).Flew JET2 as the best price and flight times, brilliant for a long weekend.
