My wife and I and 2 friends stayed at the Regencia Colon for 3 nights after our arrival on a cruise ship. The hotel is a 15 euro ride from the cruise terminal. The hotel is in a very good location and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are of above average size, are very clean and well serviced, with modern bathrooms. We chose the hotel partially for its location, and as mentioned in previous reviews, is within easy walking distance of the hop-on bus. Just a 5 minute walk to the popular tourist area of La Rambla, but take a deviation behind the cathedral and you can be pleasantly 'lost' amongst the cobbled lane-ways and plazas where you will find many tapas bars and restaurants. We strongly recommend this hotel if you plan a stay in Barcelona.

Excellent location, the staff spoke good English and gave excellent advice about the area. Hotel was quiet and the room large and comfortable. Short walk to Placa Catalunya, and next to Cathedral Square. Easy walk to HopOn,HopOff Bus. Staff seemed very concerned about safety with warnings about Pick Pockets and also held our valuables at the desk. We were very pleased with our stay at this hotel. We felt safe at this hotel and fortunately did not notice any pick pockets.

Very nice clean, comfortable hotel in the very old centre of Barcelona. Ideally suited for most of main the main tourist attractions in Barri Gothic quarter. Hotel is about 10min walk from Place De Catalunya where buses arrive from airport.

Good points:

- clean
- large spacious room on 4th floor
- comfortable
- secure safe
- reliable hot water and very good air conditioning
- good central location

Negatives:

- somewhat noisy in streets outside, but that is Barcelona for you! It is a busy noisy vibrant city
- avoid the expensive hotel breakfast - find a nice cafe/cake shop in the surrounding streets

Would stay at this hotel again. Good experience.

Just one building off the Cathedral Square and a couple hundred dollars cheaper than staying on the square. The Colon has 5 door men so if your taxi stops and doorman appear, walk to the hotel immediately behind the Colon. The Regencia Colon is a sister hotel to the Colon, and you will have to carry your own bags, but the staff is courteous and very helpful. We arrived on a morning flight, the staff took our bags and kept them in sight of the front desk, told us how to find a very good reasonable cost restaurant for breakfast and then suggested we catch one of the double decker tour busses to see the city. We used a coupon the hotel sold us and caught a tour bus for $20E a piece and enjoyed ourselves while we relaxed and saw the city, we did the orange tour with Grayline as it covers the largest area, and you can transfer all day to the various grayline tour buses. The hotel rooms are small but very clean, we had a 5th floor room which looked out towards the square. This is a noisy area and the city does not quiet down until around 2 am, we kept our balcony door open which allowed good air but also the noise. We enjoyed our stay and the area we were in. Good restaurants nearby ask the staff for recommendations.

If you want a hotel that's central but quiet and reasonably priced, I'd say this is an excellent choice. It's about 10 minutes easy walk from Placa Catalunya, which is where the airport bus terminates, and within walking distance of most of the other tourist destinations.

Yes, it's old fashioned but I like that, and the staff were always polite and friendly. There's a flight of stairs to negotiate to get up to reception, but after that there's a lift. Our room was on the third floor, at the side of the hotel, but if you leant out of the big window you could see the cathedral. The day after we'd arrived, I discovered another little window in the centre of the built in wardrobe which gave a perfect view of the cathedral square - very cute! The room itself was quite big, with plenty of storage and a good tv, a safe in the cupboard and a mini fridge. The bathroom had a smallish bath, bidet, big basin and lovely big mirror. We did have to ask for extra pillows but they were provided straight away.

We didn't spend a lot of time in the rest of the hotel as we were on room only basis, but there are plenty of places nearby to eat (and a huge food market just across the road from the cathedral square - not as colourful as the Boqueria but just as good).

We were there for La Merce festival so the reception staff did warn us that it might be noisy at night, but to be honest, I didn't notice it. I've stayed in noisier hotels - maybe if you have room at the front it's worse?

Room Tip: I would think that the higher the room, the quieter!

I had stayed here in 2009 with a group of girlfriends prior to catching a cruise ship. We had a very pleasant stay and I didn't hesitate to again book the hotel for my husband and I for our recent stay (9/12). The hotel is located off Las Ramblas, across the square from the Barcelona Cathedral, right in the heart of the Gothic District (within walking distance to most everything). It is a lovely hotel with old world charm, quite reasonable rates, and a daily hot breakfast buffet with a wide variety of food choices is available. The rooms are a nice size, and very clean. We had a large bathroom finished with lots of beautiful marble, huge bathtub, shower, and a bidet. As before, the staff was very friendly and most eager to provide assistance. Although it was quite early (8:30 am) when we arrived, our room was ready and we were able to check right in.
