“Some good, some bad”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

We booked this as part of a four-night BA Club Europe package and, at first, it was not up to scratch. We were given a room on the 18th floor which is great if you like views (we could see out to sea) but we prefer to be a little closer to earth. This is was not a major problem of course, but what was a problem was that the room was tiny. It had a double bed in it, just, and very little room for anything else. The wardrobe had only enough space for one person’s clothing, there was nowhere to put our suitcase and all-in-all the room was simply too small for two people, however intimate which each other you plan to be. On the first day we asked if a larger room was available and were told that we could upgrade for a fee. We decided to stick with it. On the second day we ordered room service which was, simply put, awful – €25 for a cold, processed chicken burger served with oil-soggy, limp chips, €20 for a tasteless tuna pizza made with a stale dough base. We didn’t eat in the hotel again. On the third day I went to the spa which was nothing special and rather an odd set-up in that there was just one small, personal changing room (one for men, one for women) together with a single toilet right next to the receptionist – it all felt a little bit weird and uncomfortable and not as relaxed as spas, in my opinion, should be. Following this experience we decided to complain about our room again and this is where things got better. We were upgraded (no mention of a fee this time) to a very nice, spacious room on the 5th floor. The porter who helped us move rooms couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly. Once we made the move and learned to avoid the food we had a great time. The room we ended up in was really very nice, comfortable and stylishly decorated.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a big enough room and avoid the room service.

I had a fabulous stay during the holiday season. Our flight arrived in at 7 am and our suite was already ready and we were able to check in early. The concierge and front desk were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The suite was spacious and modern. I highly recommend the breakfast buffet, particularly the omelet station. it was great that it was included within the price of the suite and it saved money in terms of breakfast. The hotel is pretty conveniently located. A hop on/hop off bus tour stop is a couple of blocks away and it's about a 6 euro cab ride from the city center. I've stayed at several hotels in different parts of BCN and for the price, the luxury and the convenience, Hotel Melia is the best. I would definitely stay there again.

The only cons:
1) The room service eating options are not varied and are not tasty given the price.
2) Beware of the shower--it has multiple showerheads-about 7 that shoot out at once. It's great when you get the hang of it, but if it's not turned on properly you'll be shot in the face with a blast of cold water.

Room Tip: Junior Suite is a nice option.

Stayed there for three nights. The hotel is little old but overall it was clean and well maintained. The check-in and check-out experience was fast and easy. The breakfast was good but minimum staff are available at the restaurant. One day we could not find any clean table so we had to clean one table in order to be able to have our breakfast. Overall it is a decent hotel for business travelers.

3 Close friends traveling. Decided to stay here. Once of the best choices we could have made. it had all the accommodations we are used to had internet in the lobby, which is very convenient vs having to leave to go to an internet cafe. The lobby and lobby bar are set up very modern and sleek. It has a clean look and wonderful finishing. The daily breakfast was pretty good; standard buffet. Easy to hail a cab and get around the city. Barcelona shopping is great, as is the food.

Only problem with the hotel was the shower. While it was beautiful to have the "rain" from the ceiling shower. the whole bathroom floor got wet every time we showered. i guess the caulking didn't stop the water from running into the rest of the bathroom. so we had to use tons of towels to keep drying the floor.

Melia Barcelona is perfectly located close to Av Diagonal which is the location for all major business of Barcelona. Thus giving business travellers an edge to stay close to their business requirements. The area is nice, clean and perfect. Its one of the safest areas of Barcelona. Restuarant is nice, elegant to have perfect food requirements of clients. Hotel staff is very courteous and understands good amount of English. Lift is fabulous and fast. Night life in this area is ok. Infact a night club is just nearby to hotel. Tourist area of Ramblas is far away and takes about 10 mins drive. Rooms are of medium size and is suitable for max 2 passengers in each room. If the rooms are on higher floor, you can get amazing views of the city. Costwise, the hotel is best suited for business and leisure travellers. Overall, the hotel is nice to stay and spend about 2-3 days.

Room Tip: Choose higher floor rooms to get good views of the city

I was only in Barcelona for a couple of days for work, but this hotel was really nice and located in an area that made it easy to get around.

My room was a nice size and had a view. Honestly my only complaint from the whole trip was that I found the elevators to be slow and and always full, so I had to wait for the next one quite a bit. But that may not be normal...it could have been especially full that week.

There's a great restaurant at the top of the hotel and the bar downstairs is nice too.

It was my first time in Barcelona, and it couldn't have been a better experience.

First and foremost, the moment your enter the hotel, an amazing scent rushes through your nose.

The staff was friendly, everyone spoke English, or understood a certain level of English (which is a given in the hotel industry). The concierges were helpful with letting us know directions to places we needed to go to as well as which were the fastest or most convenient ways.

i was with a friend who's parents are members of "Mas" and we paid extra for breakfast, but got it for half price. It was definitely worth it, even though half price was more expensive than having breakfast in most canadian and probably US places. It was a breakfast buffet, with choices such as churros, mussle cocktails, variety of cheese, variety of hams and salamis, variety of fruits. My favorite part was the chef who made egg for us, we chose our ingredients (ham, cheese, onions or peppers).

The rooms were clean, comfortable, very decent size, big size washrooms, mini fridge, TV with all kinds of Catalan and Spanish channels, with an occasional SNL rerun playing in the morning. Definitely no problems with the room. WIFI was also included, you simply need to get a new code everyday to access it.

The only downside of the hotel is the location, it is a little far from downtown or the touristic spots.

We rented a Vespa for a day, give it a try! (parking is so easy)
