I began a dialogue with the Melia staff immediately after learning that Holland America had booked us for our pre-cruise night in Barcelona. I requested a room upgrade to The Level and also asked for charges to insure that this room would be available at our 8AM check-in. Great response on both counts, upgraded for a reasonable charge to The Level and they had a great room ready at 8:30AM for an additional reasonable upcharge. Got a good couple of hours rest, a fresh shower and we were hitting the streets by 6PM Barcelona time. Good food, great freebies included with The Level including a small buffet with liquor that one could use for dinner. The breakfast buffet is to die for! Their location is great and as you can see I enjoyed a couple of great Cuban's in the beautiful park right across the street. We are returning to Barcelona next fall and plan to use the Melia again. Great job folks! P.S. Bring you bathing suit as their spa, sauna and steam will have you all set for a night on the town after a 14 hour trip.

Room Tip: Ask for The Level.

Went to Barcelona with wife for the weekend and choose this as an unknown until booked offer. Clearly a business hotel and queues to check in and out were very long. Staff very friendly. The room we had was on the 3rd floor at the front and the noise from the main road was very loud and our neighbours TV could be heard through the walls. Not very convenient for the old town and major sight seeing but great for a shortish stroll to the Camp Nou.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on an upper floor to the rear of the hotel.

When we booked our stay with this hotel, we made sure they knew we would be arriving in the morning and wanted an early check in. Our travel agent made sure they knew when booking this stay, but here we are, sitting iin the lobby waiting for a room. We have been up for 24 hours, having flown out of phila last night. The front desk is very indifferent to our situation and just tell us check in is not until 3. Our travel agent recommended this hotel along with 2 others. I will be sure to tell them how they have treated us.

The bottom line is that this is a very nice hotel. My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend and were pleased at how easy it was to travel around from here using the open top buses. To concur with other comments, I'd agree that breakfast was a bit of a scrum at the weekend when there were a lot of people in the hotel - but it was much better on Monday/Tuesday. Equally, the check in and out process was so slow; when we arrived we were behind a flight crew checking in and then when checking out, a large business meeting was checking out at the same time so we were queuing for 20 mins. The room on the 14th floor was comfortable but was very small and had no storage space / wardrobes so we couldn't unpack our cases (or store them anywhere in the room) therefore it was a bit congested and awkward to move around - my wife would get ready in the entrance hallway to the room!! It also had no bath - just a shower. So really, the room was much better suited to one person. Overall though, we had a great time, would be happy to recommend this hotel and would stay here again in-spite of my above gripes.

Extreamly nice and helpful staff! Great location and city view from the room!
Its a shame that the sheets and towels were worn-out and their fabrique was tough. Once we asked for an extra glass to the room (which for two adults had 1 glass in the bathroom) but it was an extra €1.5 to bring it to the room. The breakfast was very nice but the breakfast buffet only lacked fresh vegetebles and the pasteries weren't realy freshly-baked.

Just a word of warning. This hotel charges the most expensive levy for washing your laundry I have ever encountered! NO list in the wardrobe and staff who couldn't advise how much any item would cost!!

I cannot complain as other reviewers, because I've got a quiet room on the upper floors (1208), but don't expect to sleep with open windows (yes, they can be tilted-open) unless you're used to city noise.

Did neither try the gym/spa (that's probably why it's a 5 star hotel), nor the restaurant, however since the gym is open 24 hours and features fresh fruits, there's always a way to get something to eat for free...

The hotel is set a bit apart, along avenida Diagonal, so not as central as they claim. Closest metro station is nearly 1km away (L3 Les Corts or L5 Hospital-Clínic). T3 (Francesc Macià) is very close, but this one does not go downtown and the bus system is a bit confusing for short stayers. I had to commute to Fira Gran Via convention center and it took nearly as long by public transportation than walking because of poor connections! Taxi, shared with a couple of coworkers was the best option for this 5km journey.
As a side note, I'd recommend the 'TMB virtual' App which is the most accurate and user friendly of the whole pack.

The room is modern but very dark (brown-black furniture, black tiles in the bathroom) which is not my preferred taste, as you can guess. However, during the night it is disturbingly bright to the point I was awakened: the TV set standby LED, aircon display, 2 emergency lighting and the corridor light were shining right into my face. Fortunately, there were enough spare pillows to cover those, the TV got unplugged, and my sleep went back to normal.

Breakfast is excellent with a large selection of warm and cold dishes; there's also an expresso machine for those who don't like filter coffee from the pot. Check the travel agency programs, because when tourist groups are planned to leave early, you'll have to fight your way to the food!

Reception staff was friendly and fast, wifi was working from the lobby and entire room.

Room Tip: Higher floors will benefit from a nice city view and less street noise.
