“perfect hotel for a perfect weekend”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

myself and my boyfriend have just returned from a 3 night stay at Melia Barcelona to celebrate my birthday and we LOVED it. We were allocated a room on the 19th floor with amazing views of the city, lovely big bed and jacuzzi bath which was great after walking all day. I also had chocolates and a rose left on my pillow each night! No tea or coffee in the room but there was plenty at breakfast and that was the only time we wanted any.

breakfast was a little chaotic, as others have suggested, mainly because it was so busy over the weekend. But the selection of food and drink was excellent, we had a pot of coffee brought to our table and the rest was self service. But the best thing about the hotel was the service, everyone we had dealings with were so helpful and charming. We had room service at 2am a couple of nights and a iron and ironing board delivered within 2 minutes of making the call and they always rang to check it had been received. We we're always helped with our luggage and taxis hailed and given directions, which was helpful with our patchy spanish! I've no idea why some reviewers found the lifts so difficult to work, you key in your floor number it tells you which lift to take (A/B/C/D) and it takes you there. Even at peak times we waited no more than 30 seconds, those who cannot use the system are clearly idiots!!

As for the location, it's in the heart of the financial district close to a lot of high end shops and restaurants (we were at Hisop friday night, great Michelin star place worth checking out). walking to la Rambla takes 20 mins or you can jump in a taxi for about 5 Euro. The tourist bus (red and blue) stopped just round the corner from the hotel which we used to get around during the day and was well worth it.

We had a fab time in Barcelona and this hotel was the cherry on top of the cake.

Room Tip: one of the higher floors for great views

Great place to stay in. Loved the jacuzzi bath in our ensuite bathroom. Fantastic for relaxing in at the end of the day.
The staff were really friendly and helpful. The gym was good too.
I loved the way the wardrobes were structured so you could open them from the room's internal hallway and the bathroom. Great armchair with a footstool in the bedroom and another plus point the internet is free..!!
We had not booked the breakfast but there was a deal that we could get breakfast for a discounted price when we arrived. We took advantage of this offer. The breakfasts were really great. Loved their selection of fruit, breads/ croissants omelettes. They even had soya milk which was a plus for me.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful and customer service oriented. When we asked for anything we did get a call aftewards to check everything had arrived and if it was to our satisfaction.
Obviously like most hotels outside the UK and USA there are no coffee or tea making facilities but who cares. We went out to the bar and other places around Barcelona for our cafe cortado in the late mornings and afternoons.
The location is great and we walked to most places. Barcelona Sants station is a short 15/ 20 minutes walk away and Placa de Catalunya also only a 20/25 minute walk away. We loved the place and went round to most of the shops on Diagonal and on the Passeig de Gracia from it.
All in all a great hotel in a great location

Room Tip: We asked for a non smoking room and had one facing the quiet side road off Avinguida Sarria

Nothing spectacular or luxury about it. The front desk staff was okay. The room didn't have a tub or coffee machine as others have said in their reviews. The king bed was actually two twin beds pushed together. The shower leaked water all over the bathroom floor due to the door not sealing properly. The room itself was small, as expected in Europe, but the layout was very awkward for two people to get ready in. The extra charge to use the tiny "pool" was absurd. No big sightseeing attractions within walking distance but it was only a 10-15 minute walk to the subway, 3 minute walk to the bus. Neighborhood seemed safe. I wouldn't pay more than a three star price for this one.

Our family of 4 stayed at this Hotel in July 2012. We loved this place, it is neat, clean, and modern. TV, bathroom, spa, speakers in bathroom are all of good quality. The staff are friendly and helpful. We've been around a lot, but this was the first hotel with no buttons to press inside the elevators :). You select your floor from the panel outside the elevators instead.
We booked the hotel on Melia.com web site, when there was a special deal of 20 Euros rebate per person per day to use on room service and/or dining at the hotel restaurant. So for our family of four, we had a good discount on food everyday. The hotel is not centrally close to Barcelona downtown, however it is close to the big shopping centres along Avinguda Diagonal e.g. El Corte. If it is your first time in Barcelona, it is worth buying a two day Hop On Hop Off bus tour. The Big Bus HOHO bus stop is just 5' min away. The East West HOHO bus stop is ~10' minute away. For all your groceries, there is a small supermarket in Travessera De Les Corps 7' minute away. A small but nice and cheap breadshop (0.80 cents for a baguette, 1 Euro for a small latte) is a few doors down from the supermarket. A nice paella restaurant, Xativa on Carrer De Bordeus is about 10' away. We loved this place, especially when there is also a special deal :) !

Went to melia barcalona on the 7th sep on arrival we was welcomed and reception staff was polite. The hotel it self was not 5* I class a 5* the Hilton or to them standards!!! The breakfast was ok!! There was no tea bags even though we asked for some the coffee machine was broke the toast we had to put though 4 times before it looked a little bit toasted when staying in previous high standards hotels we had tea and coffee brought to the table!! The rooms were nice although it stated that there was a Jacuzi bath this was not in the room!! The swimming pool was a joke we has to pay €15 pp to visit per day!!! This is not 5* standards!! When there I decided to have a facial welll... It was a bit of oil and massaged into your face ??? Em not worth the money!! The hotel it self was spotless!! And moden just need to change a few things. The location was perfect as a bus was out side.

In other side be sure your comment will help us to improve our services.

Although your experience did not completely satisfy your expectation, we would dearly hope that this experience does not deter you from any further visits to our hotel. We will be very pleased to welcome you in a next visit to make you feel like at home.

As per review by earlier traveller, very disappointed in the Melia Barcelona as last year we also stayed at the Melia in Palma - which was out of this world! fab hotel - great staff, location, food etc! top notch! Pretty much expected the same at the Melia in Barcelona. Not so! The Receptionist on check in was lovely and allocated us a room on the 20th floor - amazing views! The room was however quite dated and shabby. The fridge was also faulty! Warm drinks for goodness sake! There was no iron in the room so went down to reception to ask for one - you would have thought I had asked for a gold bar! The other let down was the spa / indoor pool. After paying over £1700 for one week in the Melia (and then running up a tab of another £300 by end of week) told that had to pay an extra 15 euros a day to use the Spa! That is crazy! only wanted to chill in the pool after a long day of sight seeing! On a positive note - the breakfast was very good - great selection of goodies and very nice staff. So in summary - great place, wouldnt stay at that Melia in Barcelona again although would recommend the Palma Melia, absolutely excellent!

Room Tip: Ask for 20th floor - amazing views

The room was very nice and big. The bathroom also was nice and big. If you were tall you could still fit in the shower. Nepresso machines in the room. Very nice! :) The bathroom products were nice and they were replenished every day. Great European Hotel

Room Tip: I had a suite :)
