“Street noise”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

Stayed in room 116 which fronted Paseo de Gracia which is a busy avenue. We could hear street noises, especially since it was a street corner where people stop for the traffic lights. Despite that, the location is great. Nice upscale shops and restaurants. Far enough away from the major tourist drag but not a great distance to walk to Las Ramblas or even La Sagrada Familia. Gaudi's La Pedrera is 2 blocks away, while Casa Battlo is on the walk towards Las Ramblas.

The room had a balcony (not the walk out kind) which I found quite romantic. It was a great spot to people watch. As I said the street noise carried to the room but it didn't go past 1 or 2 a.m. The battery of the safe failed and it was serviced quite promptly. I requested extra pillows which never came. The room was very graciously appointed. I would definitely love to go back and stay in the same room.

We stayed as a grown-up family of 8 for the Formula One weekend. My parents prefer classic hotels and we daughters prefer something with a modern twist so we tried to combine the two here, I think with success.

The hotel is in a great location, a few doors up from two of Gaudi's architectural masterpieces and within a short walk of the Sagrada Familia. La Ramblas is about a 15 minute walk away pulling you just far enough out of the main tourist drag into the high-end shopping district to feel removed from the pickpockets and tat hawkers. It's a noisy location thanks to being just off the Paseo de Gracia so you can't really keep the windows open in the rooms but you expect that in an architectural setting of high, echoing streets. Not a problem for us.

Communal areas are grand and well-kept. The entrance lobby is a spectacular mix of modern light fittings and classic, sophisticated glamour. We thoroughly enjoyed kicking our evening off with drinks in the lobby bar with the inimitable barman Joaquin who was the perfect mix of staff and friend. Do try the Spanish Gin Mare. Top marks to him. The roof terrace is stunning too and a popular location for movers and shakers come the weekend. From here you can see down the avenues to the Sagrada Familia.

We stayed in standard rooms. They are comfortable, fairly spacious and came with brand new sheets and towels. Loved the toiletries - smelled delicious. Some aspects that are a little tired. The phone made a diabolical, intermittent hissing noise when you used it. Taps in the shower had at some point been replaced and tiles refitted by a cowboy. In a 4* hotel of this calibre I would expect tea and coffee making facilities and robes to come with the room and the safe really ought to fit a laptop but in the main I can't complain.

Staff are gracious, the rooms are comfortable and the location is faultless. There are higher designed and more modern hotels in the neighbourhood but this fit our bill perfectly. Horses for courses.

We spent three nights in this very nice hotel. We had a breakfast included option and it was very good. Beyond that we tended to eat out because there were so many options and the food was great in the Tapas. The hotel is full of amenities. It is clean, quiet and comfortable and very convenient to walk to the Ramblas.

Room Tip: The hotel has two buildings across the street from one another. We chose to be located in the same b...

The hotel Condes de Barcelona was in an excellent location. It was within walking distance of the Sagrada Familia and the tour bus line was only a block up the street. We stayed at this hotel both before and after our cruise. Both rooms were on the back side of the first building that houses the front desk. The view wasn't great and the bed comfort was terrible! During the second stay, our bathroom shower did not drain and the back doors would not lock. We called service to fix and they came immediately to fix the doors and the following day for the drainage problem. There was also some mold areas in the bathrooms. The downstairs hotel restaurant was excellent for their breakfast buffet. They offered many different bread choices, meats, cheeses, danish, and hot foods. Also, the top floor bar had an incredible view. Overall, it was a sufficient hotel. If I was to stay in Barcelona again, I would choose something with a much better room view and a little more upscale for more comfort.

Room Tip: Rooms 365 and 465 have a lot of room but don't have a great view. The beds were extremely hard...

Paseo de Gracia is the high end shopping area in Barcelona as well as home to this hotel. The hotel has old school charm with modern twists. The upstairs bar was a hip spot to have a Gin and Tonic in a big goblet and overlook the beautiful views including a spectacular night skyline with a lit up Sagrada Familia. I asked to stay in the modern section across the street - the room was nice but it had a strange sewer smell due to the rains. I called downstairs and gave my complaint - they apologized and said they could give me a room across in the original section of the hotel. I loved it - the room was nice with views to the courtyard and no smell - lol. It also had a tub to relax and unwind after a long day of sightseeing. Location is key - close to the tube and Gaudi landmarks.

We recently ended our 2 week transatlantic cruise in Barcelona, Spain. We chose to stay at this hotel for a second time because the location is great, and the hotel itself is wonderful. We were very pleased to enjoy our stay once again. The staff at the front desk is very helpful, the breakfast was just fine. We had a room that had a small balcony that looked out over a center courtyard. It was very quiet, something we had requested. There is a rooftop bar that we did not get to this time, but it is lovely. I am sure that we will either begin or end another cruise in Barcelona, and we will definitely stay there again.

The Hotel is in a great location with great prices which is hard to beat. I have stayed here over dozen times the past 4 years. Unless you are in the modern section across the street, the main rooms are a bit worn and need complete updating. The old section the safe is not even large enough to fit 2 iPad. An internet connection fee for each device, PLEASE that is absurd, it is 2013 and we all have multiple devices. Unfortunately the city has changed the rules on the Rambla and everything is closed by midnight with not more outdoor seating allowed. That has really changed the social element in the evening. Time to find a new location where the hotel has been updated.

Room Tip: Modern section across the street- Rooms on the same side as the hotel garage.
