“Nice and efficient hotel”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

It's a very central, calm, modern and nice hotel. Fully recommended for business stays but also for tourism in family. Gaudi's La Pedrera is at 2 minutes walk and Casa Batlló and other interesting buildings are also nearby.

Previously stayed right in the centre near La Rambla but due to the small size of the rooms in these hotels decided to stay a little further out. The hotel is very clean and quiet and is only about a 10 mins walk to the Plaza Catalunya. The service was good and there are loads of shops and restaurants nearby. The rooms are a decent size with comfy beds and a good shower. The only down side was one of the rooms near ours had a squeaky door and this was annoying but otherwise the hotel was relatively quiet. Would stay here again.

Dear guest,

I sometimes talk with clients who believe that the location of our hotel is much better than other hotels in "Las Ramblas". And, oddly opportunistic, I think it's true ..
We are all very close, we are in the shopping center with good restaurants, bars, with La Pedrera and Casa Batllo and is a safe area.
It's what I would ask if I traveled for the first time to Barcelona.

Hope to see you soon and thank you very much for your comments! :)

We spent six good days in the Alexandra Hotel this April. The hotel is nicely located in between Passieg de Gracia and Ramblas Catalunya (not to be confused with La Ramblas), with most of the important tourist landmarks closeby. The Plaça de Catalunya and the Ramblas are a short walk away, and casa battlo and la pedrera are both virtually next door.

The hotel looks modern but the staff could be more friendly. We were given a room on the first floor right next to the gym with a balcony over the Ramblas catalunya. When we requested for a change of room at check-in (as we had read on tripadvisor that rooms on higher floors were better and less noisy), we were curtly told that there were no other rooms available.

The walls of the room were really thin and there was a lot of noise from the main road which was hard to mask even with the sound of air con. You could hear everything from the next room and from what the cleaners did early in the morning. There was however no sound from the gym fortunately. On the other hand, we did enjoy the benefit of a balcony which allowed sitting outside on chairs with people going about on the Ramblas catalunya below.

The shower room in the otherwise small bathroom (without a bath tub and a creaky door) was probably the best we have seen anywhere in Europe, with excellent pressure of water and interesting three settings on the horizontal and vertical shower. The room itself was not large but adequate, clean and tidy, and had a mini-bar.

We did not eat in the hotel but there was plenty of choice of restaurants and cafes nearby. The internet access was free and connection was excellent all through our stay except briefly on the last night when a simple phone request to the reception was followed by a reboot of the modem and the connection was restored promptly.

Overall, it was a good stay and we would definitely come back largely due to the hotel's excellent location.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor get more noise from outside

Stayed at Alexandra Hotel for 5 nights in double room no 411 on 4th Floor, located at the front of building with a Balcony. I am a light sleeper but even with the window open I did not notice the noise at night, which was unexpected as usually any noise wakes me up. The beds were comfortable, if a little firm for our liking. The floor of the accommodation is uncarpeted (wood or wood effect) and washed daily by the maid. The rooms were generally kept clean by the daily maid service but because they do not use vacuum cleaners some areas did collect dust.

A small detail but the bath was positioned tight against the wall to the opposite end of the shower. This left a small ledge below the shower where the water collected and was unable to drain away, but would eventually seep away. I was disappointed that their were no flannels (face cloths) this was the first time in 5star hotel that I have stayed that none were supplied, so do take your own. Although I knew the rooms lacked tea/coffee making facilities I do feel this is one key negative aspect that they should rectify.

The breakfast is open from 7-11am and was kept well stocked with ample fresh fruit, meats, pastries, small selection of cereals, chocolate tart and fresh fruit drinks, fried & scrambled eggs, bread, fried bacon and small cooked sausages. If you like coffee than you are well catered for but the tea selection is limited and they are not geared up to supply separate pots of milk and will by default pour milk directly onto the tea bag. However the staff did accommodate my requests for separate milk, with varying sizes of milk jugs being supplied throughout the stay.

We had occasion to request info from reception three times and in all instances the info was politely and accurately provided, in one instance even saving us €4, by booking the bus tour via reception. The free tourist maps supplied to the hotels are quite flimsy and easily tear apart. In the lobby is free use of a internet laptop PC, but it did not have mouse, so if you are not used to finger touch pad, it was slow to use. The Hotel theme colour is black and some of the accommodation floor corridors can seem a bit like a bunker entrance and our corridor carpets looked past their best.

The hotel seemed quite up to date on its fire safety with ample fire extinguishers, fire hose reels on each floor and smoke detectors. The location of the hotel was brilliant being just off Rambla de Catalunya, around the corner from many of the Gaudi buildings, shops and close to the metro. The cost of a taxi from the airport is between €24-28 depending on time of day.

The queues for La Pedrera and the Picasso museum can be exceptionally long if you do not get their before they open. The Picasso museum only seemed to have one ticket booth open and after nearly an hour we had moved less than half way along, as it was our last day we had to forgo our visit here.

The two best restaurants we can recommend are: 1) Restaurant Grill Room, 8 Carrer Dels Escudellers, off La Rambla, a little after La Placa Reial, good quality at reasonable prices, don't be fooled by the titkle is does more than grills and had the most reasonably priced wine. 2) Da Greco (Italian) – excellent food and ambience, ensure you book and pull on the front door, as from the outside the place looks closed.

Room Tip: Higher up the better, 2nd floor can be noisy as is over the resturant

Dear guest,

thank you very much for your comments and your stay...... is very nice and very complete your opinion.
your room has hardwood floors and is newly renovated. We have rooms with Nespresso coffee machines and different kinds of tea. On your next visit please ask for them.
with reference to dust I´ll speak to the housekeeper to not happen again .. because it is in the spring when more can accumulate.
I apologize for not having flannels, study the possibility of having it though, honestly, it's the first time we request it.
we have always believed that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and so we have a full range.
I am pleased to see that our front desk was good and right and could help ... and find that for us the Safety First
from our location could certainly go to all the major sites in Barcelona.
We hope that on your next visit and stay with us again ...
Yours faithfully

We stayed in the Alexandra last August, and said we would again.

Well we have just returned from the May bank holiday weekend, and once again cannot fault the hotel. We were given a smaller room on this visit, but it was well appointed, modern, clean and tidy.
The front desk and bar staff were very polite and attentive.

We didn't eat in the hotel, with the amount of bars and restaurants in the local area, we were spoiled for choice, but if we did we I'm sure we wouldn't be disappointed.

Thanks to all at the Alex, see you again Soon!!!

I was in the Alexandra Hotel with my 1.5 year old boy and it was excelent. Room was spacious even with the cot inside we had a lot of space, very clean and modern. So is the hotel. Internet access works fast. Breakfast is really good. Staff is kind and gentle.
Location is excellent. Next to bus stops and metro stations and the main roads but still very silent. You can walk to almost all the main city attractions.
Lots of restaurants, shops and coffee places around.
Really recommend.

The Alexandra Hotel is a very good hotel for those who intend to be in the best location of Barcelona. You can do everything on foot, there is a metro station very close, many stores, cafes, restaurants. The room was very clean. Otherwise, it is not the kind of a hotel that provides you everything you want without asking for it. The only problem is the room service staff, very noisy while cleaning rooms next to you, impossible to sleep.
