Why is it only 3 stars???
The location alone should grant it 5 stars
Loved it
The rooms are super clean and comfortable. Nit very big, but then again, I'm not throwing a party in the room.
Beautiful hotel. Would definetly go back and recommend it to others

Thank ajvandet

We chose a room with a small terrace and could not have been happier. As we were going to be in Barcelona for 5 nights, we wanted a room with a bit of extra space and were certainly not disappointed. The room was a very good size and the bathroom spacious. The little terrace was private and was lovely leaving the doors open for fresh air at night. The location of the hotel is fantastic, on a pedestrian only street, just off La Ramblas, at the top of the Gothic (old town) section. Very convenient for sightseeing, wandering the little winding streets and shopping. Breakfast is great and a wide variety to choose from. The Reception staff are friendly, helpful and all speak english. The only negative - for some bizarre reason their very small restaurant dining room (7 tables) is just off the reception area and between two lifts, hardly makes for intimate dining. We arrived late in Barcelona and decided to just have a meal at the hotel and get our bearings the next day. The young male waiter was very off hand, just waved us towards a table and left us sitting there, with no sign of service or even a menu. We got up and left, walking to La Ramblas, where we were sitting at a table and served within 10 minutes. Over the next 4 nights we never saw anyone dining in the hotel - I think the service and atmosphere are obviously a real put off. So forget the hotel dining, but the rest is really great and I would highly recommend this hotel.

After having stayed at the LeMeridien (5 stars) my last two trips to Barcelona, I didn't expect as much, but in some ways ... it was even better. First of all, the location is nicer than being right on Las Ramblas. It is more convenient for tours and taxis, right on the main shopping avenue with 2 Corte Ingles stores and other clothing shops. The hotel staff were top-notch. I left a pair of trousers behind and the cleaning staff found them and when I called a few days later, the front desk was able to locate them. A friend was arriving a few days later and she picked them up. I can't remember how long ago something I've left behind elsewhere was ever located. The rooms are wonderful - comfy bed, wood floors, good storage, nice bath and all new and cheery. The breakfast is wonderful. I opted to add it 3 of my 4 mornings. At 14 euros, for Barcelona, I consider that a steal and so much variety. The breakast room faces out on a wonderful terrace with bird song and sun. I loved it there and will definitely return.

Room Tip: I was in room 102 and loved it, very quiet.

At a perfect location on pedestrian zone, near piazza Catalonia and la rambla. Metro station, tourist bus and airport bus are 5 min walk in Catalonia sq. Good for sightseeing and shopping
Free good WiFi in room and lobby
Nice modern design.
Excellent, very rich breakfast, but expensive as in other hotels in Barcelona.
We were in street view room (3rd floor) and it was very quite. Only down side was that windows could not be opened and we used the air-condition.

The hotel definitely deserves 4*. Location is very good both for shopping and sightseeing. Rooms are well decorated though small, and equipped with kettle (better buy bottled water, the one in the bathroom contains too much chlorine).

Room Tip: NB: standard rooms have window facing the wall and ask for upgrade if critical.

This was my and my husband's first visit to Barcelona so we wanted to stay very centrally. The location of this hotel was perfect - 2 minutes from the metro in Catalonia Square, 2 minutes from the top of the Ramblas, and surrounded by great shopping, restaurants, and bars. The hotel is also two minutes from a drop off point for the airport bus (we usually take a cab from the airport to the hotel, but this bus was uber convenient and well-priced).

Overall, we were very comfortable at Portal de l'Angel and thought the price was very reasonable for the value received. While we would probably pick a different hotel in a new location to stay in for our next visit - just to explore different parts of the city, I highly recommend this hotel for anyone wanting to stay centrally.

Great features
-Quiet: the hotel is located on a pedestrian street and backs into a courtyard. There is no traffic noise.
-History: lovely period features have been preserved in the building
-Nicely appointed rooms and up to date, spacious bathrooms
-Friendly and helpful staff at the front desk
-Super clean

A few downsides
- While there was zero traffic noise, we could hear noise from the corridor. This wasn't a huge issue, but it was there.
- The rooms are a little small - this was fine for our four night stay, but any longer and the room with space for only bed, bedside tables, and tv table\desk combo would have gotten on my nerves
- We had a room with a balcony. Since there was a cold snap during our visit, we didn't get much use out of it, AND since the door is vintage, it really can make the room colder
- We were cold some evenings in our room, but I think the hotel did have space heaters if you requested them
- while our room was scrupulously cleaned each day, no extra efforts were taken of making things feel a little more tidied (e.g. Arranging toiletries, throwing away a bottle ca lying around, etc). I suspect this is an area of personal preference. Some people would love someone who makes sure not to touch one private item in the room. But, I like the little extra touches you find in some hotels and missed them here.

Despite these downsides, I'm still a fan of this hotel. The location, cleanliness, value, friendliness, and updated furnishings make up for the areas that could be improved.

Stayed at the Catalonia Portal de L'Angel for 4 nights in March. Paid €89 euros per night. Located on a pedestrianised shopping street- perfect for a little retail therapy. Airport bus short 5 minute walk at the Placa Catalunya. Buses run every 10 minutes and cost €10.20 return. Tour buses also run from the Placa. Las Ramblas runs parallel and is a short walk down any of the side streets.
Rooms- modern, clean, quiet and spacious. Large flat screen TV in the room, though limited english channels. Free Wi Fi in the hotel.
Mini bar, Tea and coffee, water and nice touch with the little box of chocolates.
We stayed in room 409. Nice sitting area outside with table and chairs.
Check out 12pm with luggage store. Staff very helpful, even stored food we had purchased at the food market in the bar fridge until we returned to collect our luggage.
Would stay at this hotel again! Thank you for a great time

Room Tip: Asked for a room over lookingthe pool.
