“Good location and good hotel”
Reviewed August 30, 2013

The hotel is conveniently located near Passeig de Gracia, which means a lot. You can go from there to Plaza de Catalunya within 5 minutes.
The hotel itself used to be other hotel and now it's being used by Renaissance. Good bedroom with nice bathroom. A terraza on the 8th floor with a very shallow pool helped to relieve from the heat in sunny Barcelona.
As mentioned by other guest, this is a good hotel, but not a 5 star hotel as it miss many details that classify it as 5 star.

Definitely not 5*!
No bell boy, had to take own luggage to rooms on arrival & again back down on departure-not very 5*....

Whole place stinks of cigarettes. Showers do not work properly.

Food not the best! Bar unattended-had to go to Reception to get someone to sort drinks every time!

Not much to do at the hotel, no sauna, jacuzzi....

This hotel actually does not deserve to be a Renaissance property and thats my main reason for the score given. Were it to be an AC hotel ,as it used to be, my score would have been better. Using up 35K points per night is steep for this level as the hotel is more of an AC hotel rather than a Renaissance one.
The staff are very good but there are quite a few loose points.
Upon arrival there was no bell man and we had to wait a long time. The receptionist felt bad himself and finally volunteered to leave the desk and take the luggage. I was told that as a Platinum Elite Member I had been upgraded to a "very big room". I expected to have a suite but upon entering I realized it was a room for the physically challenged people. While being big in some sense it also meant the bathroom had no latches or locks and would open up wide enough giving you absolutely no privacy.
Housekeeping found it very difficult and cumbersome to replace the shampoos or soaps and it was interesting to watch the supplies literally empty without any replacement from their side. We asked for bathroom scales but were told the hotel doesn't have any. If you wanted to check the weight of the luggage you need to take it down to the lobby and get it done by the staff.
The hotel lacks any executive lounge so elite members are given breakfast in the restaurant. No drink vouchers are offered for that matter.
The spread at breakfast was good enough and there was a card placed which clearly mentioned you could ask for eggs, waffles , pancakes to be prepared according to your liking. However most of the staff seemed bewildered when we asked for it.
For those who drive and require parking , please beware of the parking space in the basement. For 34 Euros a day you have to test your driving and parking skills in what I would consider as one of the most difficult parking spaces with the walls literally, and I mean literally, touching the car from all sides!
The location is a saving point in the choice of this hotel as its walking distance to the shops and restaurants. However if you plan to drive , then it would be better choosing another hotel.

There was a spacious room for us to rest. The bed was comfortable and I could get to sleep very quickly. The location was very near La Rambla and Plaza de Catalunya. The staff there were very friendly and helpful. During our first day of arrival, they offered us a glass of welcome drink. They even recommended to us what to do on our days afterwards. On the eighth floor, there is a terrace with music and plastic beach chairs. Beside, there is a small fountain with a small pool for you to splash.

Room Tip: The rooms on the eighth floor are better.

comfy beds, beautiful bathrooms, and only a block from a major street that includes the Gaudi apartment and several restaurants and shops. As a bonus, there was a very decent gym that is almost impossible to find in centrally located cities in Europe. The concierge service was especially attentive; there was a very nice bar/meeting room in the lobby.

Spent two nights after disembarking from a cruise. Hotel is just a few blocks from Plaza de Catalunya, the city's central district. Shops and restaurants line the intersecting avenues. Desk staff is very professional and accommodating. We were lucky to be assigned a room on the 8th floor with a private terrace. The hotel's terrace bar that overlooks the main entrance is a great place to have a drink while taking in the city views. The buffet breakfast rivals the buffet from the cruise ship. Room was a bit small, but the bathroom is huge. All furnishings are modern and well-suited. Would stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 801 has the private terrace.

We stayed in July for three nights and enjoyed the hotel. The room was on the large size by European standards and clean. The hotel staff was pleasant, but the front desk should be a bit larger - it tends to get crowded. The gym was fantastic - much better than many others at higher end hotels.
The location is superb, a quiet street that is 4 or 5 blocks from the Rambla, and we walked everywhere in Barcelona(except Guell park - take a cab there). Not too many US stations on the TV - not too much of a complaint as we didn't get back to our rooms until night, but I'd recommend a few more.
Overall, I'd recommend this hotel above just about any other hotel in it's price range, and even in the next range. We walked by a lot of hotels in Barcelona that didn't come close to the Renaissance - say here
