Stayed here on points, don't think we could afford this place otherwise. Even so, good value because we got a gift of points at check-in and breakfast buffet was included because we are Platinum Elite members. Staff was very professional. Public spaces are gorgeous, cool and calming. That 8th floor terrace is very peaceful, it was a good spot to take a sightseeing break and read a book and sip something cool, with comfy sofas, etc., and awesome views. Rooms are very modern and very clean, bathrooms are spacious made up entirely of green marble.Big flat screen TV. Rollaways available. Spacious closets and a small cooler fridge too. If you do get the breakfast buffet, we recommend considering it brunch, since it's open til 11am or 12n, it has everything you could possibly wish for, very high end. Highly convenient downtown location. Excellent workout space. Only thing would have been nice to have is a pool. Even the hallways are chi-chi.... we loved this place, can say enough nice things about it and highly recommend it. N.B.1. If you are allergic to feathers, be warned, there are feather beds and they won't remove them even if you ask, but you can get foam pillows, and 2. if your cabbie doesn't know which hotel it is, just tell him "es el viejo Hotel Diplomatic".

The rooms are small but clean. Avoid room 114. There is a small odd balcony that opens up to walls (hard to explain, but you can't actually see out) and there is no other window. All night long, people from the nightclub above dropped bottles and other rubbish down onto the "balcony". Cleaning staff much friendlier than front desk staff, who seemed annoyed to have their conversations interrupted to check us in/out. Concierge was extremely rude and expected a tip just for passing me a map.

Room Tip: Avoid anything ending in 14, i.e. 114, 214.

The location is great. And the only good thing about this hotel.
I myself work in hospitaly, and I can say with 100% assurance that this is not a 5 star hotel and service.
1. Very limited interaction with guests from reception side. The whole communication is down to: "give me your passport and creadit card" and "here is your key". No information about hotel or service are given at check in.
2. We had first checked in standard room and it appeared to be really small, and the bathroom is super tiny. So on the second night we've changed the room and got one on 10th floor, which was much bigger and naturally costed a lot more.
3. The quality of cleaning is quite poor. you can see traces of calc all over the bathroom. the carpets are very dirty. dust is found in lots of corners.
4. I had an issue with shower and called reception. Waited for 20 min, but no technician showed up. Luckily I managed to fix the problem myself.
5. In spite the DND sign on the door, at 7 am 3 guys from Housekeeping were loudly chatting just near our door. They woke us up. And i had come out and tell them to shut up as their conversation seam to have no end.
6. The internet connection in the room didn't work
7. Room service is not up to standard as well. We were ordering breakfast in the room every morning, so the omette was always cold, and once they forgot the coffe we ordered. Also it was taking about half an hour to get our order delivered.
8. There was a problem with water on the 10th floor. Water presure was quite low and it was very difficult to adjust water temperature, it was either very hot or cold. We asked reception to send someone to fix it, but it was never done and no one from reception gave us any feadback.
9. Now the WORST thing. On the day of my departure (July 2) I've asked concierge to print out for me time table for bus to Girona airport wich is 100 km from Barcelona. When i got to the station it appeared that the schedule i was given by concierge was dated 2008! 5 years ago!!! And the next bus is in 2,5 hours!!! instead of 15 min as i was told at the hotel. I had no other choice but to take a taxi and to pay 150 euros! to catch my plane! What idiots are working there, that they're not able to do such simple thing as to keep the information updated?! 5 years no one has time to update the schedule?! And why does guest have to pay for the stupidity of staff or Renaissance hotel? I'd really like to hear an answer to this question from a hotel manager...

We stayed here three nights, our last city on our tour of Spain. We used our reward points. I had mentioned it was our one year anniversary and we were pleasantly surprised with top floor view room (felt like I could reach out and touch Sagrada Familia) and cava and chocolates. Front desk was extremely helpful at check in. My mil had called to wish us a happy anni and they even took down, typed, and delivered the message to our room. We did not use many hotel amenities, but all seemed very nice. Would definitely return here on a future visit.

Room Tip: We were on 10th floor, room 1012. Gorgeous view.

My husband and I stayed at the Renaissance Barcelona for two nights in June of 2013. One night before we left for our cruise and then again for one night after the cruise before our flight out to the US. We used Marriott points for both nights and were upgraded to a suite both times as well. I would pay actual money to stay at this hotel again even if we didn't have points to use. The weather was perfect enough for us to enjoy an evening on the Veranda. We ate at the hotel restaurant, the waiters recommendation which was a sampler plate and it was the perfect amount of food for the two of us. Lovely hotel in a beautiful city.

We stayed here with my family for one night before going on a Royal Caribbean Cruise. The hotel is quite nice, decor is nice, breakfast buffet is excellent and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. We got a room upgrade so all in all we were very happy.

This was a wonderful place to stay before we boarded a cruise. We were able to walk to all of the destinations of Barcelona from the hotel. The patio of the hotel was a great place to relax after the day.
