“Great hotel for visiting the city”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

The hotel is very accessible for the Metro and the train direct to/from the airport. It's also very easy to get to and from the city and the Segrada Familia on foot. The lobby is a nice space and there are four lifts so no long waits to go in or out. We didn't eat any food in the hotel as breakfast was from EUR18 per person.

The room was just about big enough for the two of us and had a balcony. Quality of the room and fixtures and fittings was good, it was quiet and the bathroom was nice with a powerful shower. I'd definitely stay here again.

The hotel also comped us a bottle of cava for my birthday!

Room Tip: Get a high floor room for the best peace and quiet.

We had a great experience (5 nights for FREE using Marriott Reward Points - "buy" 4 nights with points, get 5th night free) at the Renaissance Barcelona. The location is TERRIFIC. we used the RENFE train from airport to within less than a block from hotel. Room was lovely and modern and had a nice galley kitchen area with tea/coffee station, mini-fridge. nicely appointed, comfy bed. FABULOUS 8th floor terrace to watch sunsets, nap in the sun and a lovely bar there, too. We'd go before the bar opened, toting our own bottle, cups and snacks from the wonderful markets and would dine on cooked shrimp, bread, cheese and veggies. concierge staff was great. got us hooked up on a "better" trip than the one we'd found for a daytrip to montserrat (VERY good, btw) - and the maint. staff responded immediately when the showerhead was gushing out holes that weren't supposed to be there - quick replacement and we were good to go.

were we ever LESS than thrilled? in a few areas. free wifi ONLY in public spaces. very expensive to have it in room - but it IS available. only ONE CHAIR in the room so, with two people, one was relegated to bed or floor. any cocktails (liquor) vs. wine/beer were VERY expensive (seems to be standard throughout EU countries!). lobby computers - apples - were difficult to use. alas, we reserved tix ahead of time to sagrada familia and needed to print ... and also dealt with boarding passes. it was do-able, but kind of frustrating.

staff, however, was marriott-quality all the way - STELLAR! alas, a lot of guests ARE americans and, well, there were a few of those big clunky white tennis shoe'd/fanny packed/loud-obnoxious ones in the mix. ugh ... giving the rest of us a bad rap. c'est la vie.

One of the reason that I picked this hotel is its proximity to some shops that I wanted to visit here, which is great that I can shop and bring it to the hotel easily. I arrived early in the morning and expecting to be able to have early check in which I didnot get. Kind of dissappointing as I was tired and it took quite a long time to even keep my luggage. The concierge is very helpful to tell everyone what they need but his helpfulness is creating such a long queue. It's an OK hotel for me.

We spent 2 very comfortable nights here... the hotel is modern & spotlessly clean. Our room on the 9th floor was quiet with a very comfy bed & a great local view out of the windows. We enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine sitting out on the terrace on the 8th floor looking out at the stunning view of Barcelona. The location is 15mins walk from La Rambles & just around the corner from the main shopping street. There are stacks of eating/drinks places on your doorstep. The navigators at the hotel gave great recommendations for eating/drinking/sightseeing. We took the train from the airport & the hotel is approx 150mts from the station, very easy, cheap & quick...... take the Pau Claris exit from the station. Completely enjoyed our stay & would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in a 5 star central hotel.

Room Tip: Higher floors have great views

We arrived around 9am, weary from our long, transatlantic red-eye to be told there was a "problem with our reservation". The hotel had been overbooked and our guaranteed, pre-paid room was not available for the 1st of two nights. They offered to put us in a cab and send us across town to a location outside of the city center. When we refused they booked us at a similar hotel a few blocks away. It was not a good start to our holiday to say the least. When we did check in to the hotel the next day it was nice enough, no complaints about the hotel itself but the grief we went through on the first morning was an awful way to start a holiday.

We stayed at the Renaissance both pre and post cruise and had a pleasant stay. The hotel is clean with modern decor. Staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet had a wide assortment of both hot and cold items and was included with our stay. The location was excellent. It was a few blocks away (10 min walk) from P.Garcia, which was a street with lots of upscale stores and plenty of restaurants. Las Ramblas and the market were a little futher away but a pleasant brisk 15-20 minute walk. Hotel was quiet and appeared to be in a safe touristy area. There is a small corner store one block down with snack foods, bottled water/drinks, limited fruits, and personal items, if needed.

We stayed in queen room pre-cruise, which was adequate for short stay. Post-cruise, the executive king room was more roomy and comfortable. Both times we had to ask for washcloths as they weren't provided in the room! Decor was modern with hardwood floors and bed comfortable. The bathroom door is frosted. There is no clear partition or divider separating the sink area from the tub/shower and toilet. Pre-cruise, the tub/shower wasn't the cleanest and dirt residue was still present; however it was much better on the return stay.

There were limited options for room service. Although the breakfast buffet was delicious, the room service delivered food was not as good. Pizza was too oily and greasy. It was promptly exchanged but even still not very tasty. Other food items were okay. The "market room" was looked right next to the check-in area and offered very minimal sundry items.

Overall, great stay and location. I would recommend and would return to this hotel for a future stay.

This hotel is very well-situated, with excellent staff. It's close to most of the tourist areas, and most places can be reached by short walks. The rooms are quite spacious and nice. The breakfast is also delicious and expansive.

My only sort of negative comment is that the hotel is big and feels like a big box hotel. There's not a lot of character, and there are lots of hotels around town that look more charming (although they're mostly independent and therefore unknown quantities).

Overall, very pleased with my stay.
