I have spent 2 nights to Barcelo Sants Hotel!

Advantages

1) Great location as the hotel is located above the Sants train station(easily accessible by car, taxi, train, metro and shuttle (and hop-on/off bus if you like)
2) Spacious and clean rooms (the rooms are comfortable & quirky, the space theme continues even through each corridor)
3) The staff was very friendly to help you and give you directions
4)Wifi Internet = Excellent (free)

Disadvantages

1) windows cannot be opened - temperature is regulated by air conditioning
2)it's still al little far from the city Centrer-the "La Rambla"

Neutral

1) Breakfast buffet was good enough
2)Travelling from airport to Sants railway station in about 20mins

I would definetely recommend this hotel!

Location is easily accessible by car, taxi, train, metro and shuttle (and hop-on/off bus if you like), as the hotel is located above the Sants train station. And, without the noise that you would expect potentially of such a central location. The rooms are sleek, stylish, modern, good in size with all the necessary facilities (no bathrobes) .

Reception staff are a bit indifferent. They take little initiative to offer information or help. They are not rude, just scribble things down and give therefore not really a 'welcome' feeling.
Breakfast was poor. Not recommended.

Best choice ever! Great location, clean rooms, tropical shower, king size bed with 6 pillows of different size, polite staff, a lot of restaurants nearby, Plasa de Espanya with Magic fountain can be easily reached by foot, metro and railway station is just below the hotel. Red line of "bus turistic" stops right behind the hotel.
Negative: windows cannot be opened - temperature is regulated by air conditioning; from Friday till Sunday a lot of noise from the street (music, concerts, etc.) which ends by morning; it's difficult to find entrance to hotel when you come here for the first time - look for the sigh H.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights on a half board basis and we could not have asked for a better hotel.

Food:
Breakfast was varied and fresh with choices of salad, cold cuts, pastries, eggs ect, coffee, fruit juice. You will not find it catering towards a full cooked breakfast like a beach hotel but it was very good. For our evening meal we were given the bistro menu which was limited but very nice. Starters included 2 salads a tuna and a tomato and Mozzarella, both which were delicious. Mains were Hake, Veal and Duck. Hake and Veal were lovely if at times a little overly salted, cannot comment on the Duck as we did not try it. Dessert was ok but nothing special. Also included was bread, bottled water and a bottle of wine. If staying longer that a few nights on a half board basis like us you may become a little sick of the food but I felt that for the cost it was excellent value for money.

The dining area has not undergone the renovation like the rest of the hotel and on our final morning there was some noise from renovation adjacent to the dining area. A little annoying but not unbearable.

Room:
It has a safe, which is free and you set your own code. The room key activates the electricity, it took me a few minutes to work this out lol. The bed is super king size and is firm but very comfortable and the sheets are changed regularly by room service. There is shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, a razer and shaving cream, cotton buds, shoe shine and slippers as you would expect in a 4* hotel.

The shower is amazing and is really large inside, the toilet is a cubicle and does not provide you with the greatest amount of privacy but is also a large size. The rest of the bathroom was a room divider with the sink and a double sided mirror facing the bed area. Admittedly if you are looking for privacy when using the bathroom you are not going to find it, but that said it was not a problem for us.

Our room was located on the 6th floor and we had a fantastic view. Air con is set to go no lower that 21 but this is adequate and we were not hot whilst in the room. The blind is a black out blind and really does keep out the morning sun. 42" tv on the wall where you have loads of tv channels, there are about 4 in English and also a Spanish music channel, as you would expect there are many English spoken songs to sing along to. There is an ipod dock should you need it with speakers.

Location:
Right on top of Estacio de Sants (train station) and the Metro, directly opposite you have stops for the tourist bus. The local area is working class, many of the shops were closed down but there was a local festival whilst we were there and the streets were decorated, each street hoping to win the competition for tehe best decorated street. As mentioned below a 10 minute walk will take you to the Placa de Espanya where you will find local shops, bars and a former bull ring which has been converted into a shopping centre, you can pay 1er and take the lift to the top for some fantastic panoramic views of the city. There is a hypermarket opposite, a tabac in the station and even a McDonalds below!!!

All in all we had the most amazing time and we would definitely stay there again, its like sleeping in the stars!!!

On a trip to Europe this month we stayed twice at the Barcelo Sants, once inbound and once outbound, each time for two nights. As many reviewers have referenced, although the hotel is not in the nicest neighborhood with particularly good food, shopping, or sights, the transit connections in the station below are fantastic. I strongly urge anyone staying for any length of time to buy the T-10 or T-70 subway pass, which will reduce each subway fare from two euros to one. Multiple people can used one pass, handing back to each other as you enter the Metro (subway), and having each pre-purchased trip deducted from the card. When you exit the Metro, no ticket has to be shown or passed through the gate. Barcelona has an excellent subway system with eight lines covering the city, often with stations only 5-6 blocks from each other.

Regarding the rooms, the first time we stayed at the hotel, we got the rooms with the bathroom open to the room, which had the toilet and shower each in its own "closet" that opens to the room. With this bathroom arrangement, the toilet door does not close tightly and one using the shower must undress or dress in the room outside the shower, so it is not very private or discreet. However, the second time we stayed in the hotel, each room had a bathroom with a shower/bath combo with a toilet inside the bathroom, which was much more private. Therefore, to avoid the situation with the less private bath and shower complained of in other reviews, I recommend asking for a room that has a shower/bathtub combination.

The breakfast buffet was a generous variety of meats, breads, fruit, salad, juices, hot beverages, cereal and yogurt. The dining room is large and comfortable. We found the front desk staff to be efficient and helpful.

For dining, there are a handful of decent restaurants around the station. For more choices, I recommend walking out of the front of the station one short block to Carrer de Tarragona and turning right (south) and walking 10-15 minutes to the Placa d'Espanya, that can also be reached by the Metro (two stops). An excellent restaurant is Pura Brasa on the Placa d'Espanya.

Room Tip: Request a room with a bath (shower/bath combo), higher floors will be quieter.
