“Not a 4 star”
Reviewed January 2, 2013 via mobile

Although this hotel looks quite smart, there are in my opinion several drawbacks. There are no tea/coffee making facilities, even though it is advertised. This is only if you take a Junior suite! There is no Wi Fi in the rooms. The pillow is a bolster and not very comfortable. The standard room is a little dated. The breakfast is ok. The hotel is not in a very good location and the taxi fare to the shopping area/ Ramblas is about 20 euros return. This is more a 3 star hotel than a 4 star one.

Dear guest:
Thank you for saying with us and provinding us with your valuable feedback. We regret not having covered deeply your expectations. Providing tea/coffee making facilities in all our rooms is a matter that is being studying. At the moment only Junior Suites have it, as it is announced in our website.

Two nights in a superior suite room, one night in a standard room - there is a vast difference between the two rooms which is probably reflected in the mixed Trip Advisor reports. We loved the Superior room which had everything we wanted. What you get with both rooms however is great service and help from the reception staff - Thank you to Anna in particular, you are the reason we booked the extra night!
This Hotel is only a short Metro ride from the old Gothic quater (20mins) and is in a safe family area to wander around late at night, in the summer it would be even better as the beach is close and the Tourist Bus will stop nearby. In winter it feels a little out of the way but is a nice quiet location.
We were there on a FC Barcelona package and went to Camp Nou three times during our stay, this takes 45 mins from the hotel, we went twice using the tourist bus to drop us directly at the door and used the metro for the match.
The breakfast was decidedly average - save yourself some money as there are amazing pastries to be had down the street!

Room Tip: Choose rooms away from the building site ( in front of reception) the wind rattles the windows if ho...

Having booked a cruise leaving Barcelona on 11th August 2012 we decided to spend the previous day in Barcelona seeing the city for the first time. Our travel agent booked us into this hotel saying that it would be near the port. In the event we found that this is not so - we found that this hotel is to the north east of the centre of Barcelona and the port is to the South West.
But read on!

We left Gatwick early on 10th August and arrived at the hotel well before midday. Not suprisingly a room was not ready for us, but the staff were friendly and our cases were stored in a room behind the reception desk.

Having pre-booked our tickets on-line we then left to find a bus stop for the Green Route of the City Sightseeing Red bus. We waited at a bus stop a few minutes walk from the hotel, but when the bus arrived were told that the tickets were for the other red bus company. Having found the other bus stop a few minutes away, they told us that the tickets were for the first company. Returning to the first stop we boarded this bus and this time persuaded the embarrased 'conductor' to let us on. None of this mattered greatly except that we were tired after an early start and (compared to England) it was really hot!

Although the commentaries are good, there are two disadvantages of the red bus routes. First you have to change buses to see the whole of the city, and the 'new' buses can arrive almost full so that you may not be able to get on the first bus that comes along. Second, by operating circular routes in one direction only you have to complete the tour if you are to travel by bus alone. (Also, sitting on the open upper deck can be very hot)

So later that afternoon, having visited La Sagrada Familia (which we found very interesting) we decided to try and make our way back to the hotel by tube. It was necessary to buy a ticket from a machine, and eventually we realised that instructions in english were available thanks goodness) . With one change of air-conditioned train we managed to work our way to Poblenou station, and then left the station to try and find the hotel. Finding the road to the hotel was the hardest part and I regretted not having a compass with me. (When using a map, remember that in Barcelona north is not at the top of the map!)

We reckon it is a good 10-15 walk from the metro to the hotel. We arrived to retrieve our cases but to learn that the restuarant was not open for dinner that evening. However, when we reached our room we found that we were in a spacious suite rather than in a standard room.

We spent some time walking around looking for a restuarant and eventually ended up at the Chinese restuarant close to the red bus stop where we had a more-than acceptable meal at a reasonable price.

Returning to the hotel, the 'free' wi fi in the reception area was slow and disappointing. But the room was spacious, clean and quiet and we had an excellent night's sleep. And the following morning the buffet breakfast offered an excellent choice on a self-serve basis.

We again used the red buses to go back to the centre of Barcelona, and this time visited the original cathedral, Las Ramblas, etc before returning to the hotel. Again staff were friendly and helpful and called a taxi to take us to the cruise-liner port. That proved to be a unexpectedly quick journey because there are fast underpasses under the centre of Barcelona. I doubt if the journey took more than 10 minutes.

We left feeling that we had achieved our objective of seeing Barcelona for the first time. The hotel was clean quiet and comfortable, the staff were freindly and helpful and we felt safe walking in the srrounding streets. Some may prefer to be closer to the city centre, and those who don't mind some travelling should remember that the green bus route does not operate during the winter months. But we would certainly consider another visit to the Rafael Diagonal Port.

Quite big rooms, clean, quiet and comfortable. No wi-fi service in the rooms: you can only connect PC via ethernet cable or stay in the common lounge where the wi-fi service works; so no way to connect a tablet by the rooms :(
Very good breakfast: large choice of foods, good quality as well.
A couple of minutes walking from the beach, twenty minutes walking from the olimpic port. Right price.

We stayed here for 3 nights to see as much as we could of Barcelona. Perfect location for all sites. 5 min walk to beach, 10 min walk to mini rambla and around the corner from lots of shopping. Highly recommend the hop on hop off bus tour if you want to see as much as you can in a short time. The hotel was clean and friendly. We didn't use the restaurant but walked 3 min to the pizza/coffee shop and had the best coffee and croissant for breakfast. Would definitely stay here again.

Stayed in the hotel whilst attending a conference at the CCIB (Centre Convencions Internacional Barcelona). The CCIB is about a 10/15 minute walk away from the hotel and it's a nice walk when the sun is shining. This is the good thing about this hotel.

Now for the not so good bits.

Basic hotel, as already suggested more 3 than 4 star. Think Travel Lodge by the sea.

Breakfast was very basic and not worth the money. Charging for WiFi isn't great, especially if the signal is weak and the connection is slow. 9.95 euro per day for bad WiFi.

Worst of all, they put two small 330ml bottles of still water in the room, and then charge 2.6 euros for them. EACH!!! Charging for a small bottle of water in the room is bad enough, but charging this much is just mean.

As if all of that wasn't bad enough a faulty iron that was delivered to a colleagues room had a frayed cord, gave him a shock and paramedics were called in. Nice.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

Rooms were ok and quit with comfortable beds. Have seen much better breakfastbuffé for €14.95.Wifi only free in the lobby for one hour then you need a new accesscode. Expesive in room. Staff friendly. For me was the location perfect but a bit far from citycentre.10minutes to Metro.
