“Outstanding!”
Reviewed December 1, 2013

We just stayed a total of three nights at Circa 1905 - two pre-cruise and one post-cruise. This was our fifth trip to Barcelona and Circa 1905 is now our new official base in this beautiful city. We travel internationally frequently and have stayed in all types of hotels in many different countries, and Circa 1905 is truly one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at in the world. It is not only fabulously located, but it is also absolutely beautiful. The art nouveau decor is lovely, the staff go above and beyond to assist you in any way that they possibly can, the hotel in general and the rooms are extremely clean, and the breakfast is wonderful and expansive as compared to other "continental" breakfasts that we have had in the city. Additionally, the free 24/7 coffee, tea and bottled water is a fantastic perk as well. I cannot say enough good things about Circa 1905.

Breakfast included wonderful pastries, fruit, cereal, yogurt, meats, cheeses, breads, juice, etc. It is one of the best continental breakfasts we have ever been offered. Additionally, on our last morning, our flight departed early and the staff was kind enough to put together a "picnic" for us to take on our journey. It included a juice box as well as a ham and cheese sandwich.

We were with family and as such were able to see a number of the hotel's rooms. We saw three (Room 1, 2, and 4) out of the four Provenza rooms, each of which were very large (even by American standards) and absolutely beautiful. They each come with a small balcony that overlooks the street below. While we were very, very happy with each of the Provenza rooms, one special note is that Room 2 has a smaller bathroom than Room 1 and 4. However, while it is smaller than 1 and 4, it is still a very nice size for a European bathroom and is well equipped. If, however, you like a lot of space to get ready in the mornings, then you may want to request one of the other Provenzas. Side note - the showers are wonderful and have two shower heads. There is also a hair dryer and lovely bath products as well as a towel heater. The Provenza rooms have gorgeous tiled floors, extremely comfortable large beds, and they even provide slippers and bathrobes!

One of our family members stayed in the smallest room - the Rosello room. While it was much smaller than the Provenza rooms and faces an interior courtyard, it was still extremely nice and well equipped. We were also pleasantly surprised to find out that while occupying the Rosello room, you have private access to the small interior courtyard. So this is a great bonus given the Rosello room is the least expensive and smallest of the 9 rooms in the hotel.

None of us stayed in the Mallorca rooms, but we were able to sneak a peak while they were being cleaned. They too, like the Provenza rooms, are very large and beautiful. They come with a very well-sized terrace that face the main courtyard. Very lovely!

Our taxi ride to the hotel from the airport ran about 25 euros, but going to the airport was closer to 35 euros. Do read the fare signs posted in the backseat of the taxi and be sure to not let the taxi driver charge you more than what is posted on the signs. Most taxi drivers are honest, but like any big city there are those that will try and over charge. Just read the sign and be aware of about how much it should cost.

Again, I cannot say enough wonderful things about Circa 1905. It is not only our new favorite hotel in Barcelona, but also one of our new favorites in the world. Thank you to Circa's staff for making our stay one of the best we have ever had.

Beautiful b &b in a wonderful location. Very comfortable bed, lovely bathroom, stunning decor throughout and very clean. Fresh, tasty breakfast you can take to your room if you want and free bottled water and coffee available 24 hours a day. Very helpful staff who welcomed us and advised how to get around the city. We slept well in our room at the front which had a view of La Pedrera. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

What a find..we booked this Boutique Hotel online from pictures, and were more impressed when we got there. The positives: the staff are amazing, especially Maria at the front desk. She helped us plan our first day, and was lovely to deal with. The hotel has modern conveniences with an older, authentic feel in the decor. Twenty foot ceilings, large rooms, large comfy bathroom and cushy clean bed. Fantastic breakfast served in the lovely guest reception room. Spirits available for purchase. Fabulous terraces. Really central location..a few blocks from La Rambla, the main walkway down past the amazing market and to the water. Loads of shopping all around...check out the funkiest handbag shop I've ever seen just a few doors east from hotel. Possible disadvantages: only one...we were looking out over a dead quiet inside courtyard, until the restaurant had an event on our last night there, and we had noise and cigarette smoke in our room until 2am..and we had a 4am wake up to catch our flight. The hotel quieted the party at midnight, but the smokers still kept it up and we could still hear the beat of the music. Maria emailed us to apologize, and since it was the ONLY downside, I would definitely stay there again. Lovely place. Really made our trip even more wonderful.

It is often difficult to find a quiet place to sleep in a busy city but this delightful B&B was a gem. An easy walk from the Placa de Catalunya, on the same street as La Pedrona and Sagrada Familia, the location is excellent. We requested a terrace room as these face an internal courtyard. This was a little noisy on one evening as a restaurant also opens on to it, but double-glazing & solid shutters kept out the sound and the light. Breakfasts were good, an added touch was as we had to leave early on our last day, they packed a "picnic" breakfast for us to take with us. The staff all spoke good English (helpful as my Spanish & Catalan are not good) and were happy to assist with recommendations and bookings for restaurants.

Stayed for three nights.Booked through hotel website.Charged 200Euors a night but on booking.com only 140 euros anight. B&B run by young staff.,owner no where to be seen. WiFI hopeless. Was told the guy from Apple can last week to fix it ,but very slow when it worked which wasn't,t often. We had a room with a balcony and we were told that you could eat breakfast out there , but the balcony was only wide enough for two folding chairs touching each other. Impossible for two people to sit there. Lots of nicer accommodation in the area.

As we explained you the first day of your stay at the hotel, rates vary according to season, so is not comparable the rate in high season and in a weekend, as you had, with which you were showing us at Booking.com for mid season dates and weekdays. For the same dates and room of your stay the rest of the guests have paid the same than you, having made their reservation by Booking.com or by our web.

Regarding the rest of the comment, our hotel is proud of its location in Barcelona, near the Paseo de Gracia, is also proud of being in a beautiful modernist building having only 9 personalized rooms with antique and valuable furniture. The Provenza room, what the customer booked, has a small balcony, typical of the Eixample district of Barcelona, overlooking the street and Gaudi's Casa Mila, where we have placed two little chairs to enjoy that nice view. The breakfast, consisting in a buffet of local products, is served in the living room, and if the guest wants can bring it to the room. However, Mallorca room with a terrace, table and chairs is the good choice for those that want to enjoy an outdoor sunny breakfast. Our desire is to help clients to feel at home. The hotel staff, young because young is the hotel, also understands that personal attention to the guest is a value and, along with the property, constantly strives to improve service in all aspects of customer satisfaction (eg. we have requested immediately a revision of the wifi).

We think that the customer perceives this atmosphere, this effort and this personalization, and we appreciate the feedback reflected at most of the constructive comments on Tripadvisor and Booking.com, to let us know that their expectations have been met, and to provide us clues to improve when they have not been satisfied.

The owner.

The owners have made this one floor B&B into a decorator's paradise where every detail has been thought out carefully right down to the beautiful tile floors and the Beaux Arts furniture.

The rooms were comfortable, the amenities from L'Occitane, the generous breakfasts delicious, the staff gracious and helpful, the prices reasonable, and the neighborhood safe. It is right down the street from Gaudi's Casa Mila and Las Ramblas for a good start to one's exploration of Barcelona.
