Montserrat is a ways from Bracelona, but worth it and very easy to do with the train and cablr car. The cable car ride is fun and once on top of the mountain the views are outstanding and there are a number of things to see and some great walking trails. Plan on spending some time there if you want to go all the way to the top and enjoy the walking trails.

If you are in Barcelona for longer than a couple days, you must spend a day at Montserrat. It is absolutely breath taking and incredible. We hiked up to the cross at the point of the mountain and it was definitely challenging but so worth it. I have never seen such a beautiful place in my life and this was definitely worth the hectic travel to get to it. It needs almost a whole day though because it takes a bit to get to. The restaurant in the hostel is one of the best meals weve had here so definitely eat at that.

Montserrat has the most beautiful montain view I have ever seen. I loved it a lot. :) There is a cable car, but that only brings you up to a point, where there are restaurants, etc. If you want to go higher, have to go on foot, or you can pay for going up with a kind of train.

Went to Montserrat with Julia, travel agent. The trip was well organised but we felt it was very rushed. We only had two hours to look at the place, the architecture, to soak up the atmosphere and admire the stunning view.
If you can, you would be far better of to organise the trip yourself as many others who did a review, actually did. Montserrat is a place well worth to take your time and reflect how the place was build so many centuries ago, destroyed and rebuild again and again.

We did this trip ourselves by purchased the Tot ticket from the Tourist shop on Pl. Catalunya. This included metro & train tickets to/from the foot of Montserrat mountain, cable car to/from Montserrat mountain, lunch, rides for Sant Joan Funicular and Santa Cova Funicular. Try to aim for the 8.36am or 9.36am train from Pl Espanya and spend a whole day there if possible. The train journey takes about an hour but then you might need to wait for the cable car to go up to the mountain. Plenty of things to see, views to admire, walks to attempt! We had a wonderful day there and still not managed to go the Santa Cove cave part! Definately our Barcelona highlight!
