Owner description: The Royal Monastery of St Mary of Pedralbes, founded in 1326 by Queen Elisenda of Montcada, third wife of James II of Aragon, provides a unique cultural and historical record of the community of Poor Clare Nuns who lived there practically without a break from 1327 to 1982. Its artistic heritage has become a reference for the study of the customs, fashions and models of secular and religious life. The exhibitions "Petras Albas", "The Treasures of the Monastery," "Plants, Remedies and Apothecaries", "Murals in the Spotlight: the Paintings in St Michael's Chapel" as well as the restored Chapel itself, illustrate the museum complex.

We took a taxi to see the Pedralbes Monastery. It is a bit out of town but is worth seeing. Pedralbes is an upscale residential area. I enjoyed seeing the cloisters and the museum. This is very peaceful, part of another world. The museum has a lot of artwork that was donated by the families of the nuns who entered the monastery. There are paintings, religious items, gold and silver pieces. In the past, when a young woman entered the monastery, her family would donate something to the monastery, something like a dowry. With the passage of time, the monasteries accumulated plenty of art, and that is the reason to visit their museums now.

I visited this Monastery/Museum in a very hot day but inside the temperature was much more comfortable.
I liked the courtyard and some cool paintings and sculptures.
The Monastery atmosphere is really calm and peaceful, a great place to rest your spirit while still continuing to sightseeing an attraction.

This was on the tour bus route but not many people got off at this stop. They all missed a gem . While it is in the city you would think you were in the country as when you go inside it is so quiet . Really interesting museum .

If you like historical buildings, you will like this monastery and it's museum.
Part of the monastery is still habitated by nuns which of course is not open for visitors.
When we visisted the monastery there was a service going on so we could hear the singing nuns in the hallways of the museum! Awesome!

In the cellar there is a room with all little windows with behing that little statues telling the story of the birth and reserrection of Christ. Very beautiful. And nice for children too!
Not many visitors here, because it's further away and not in the top 10 of places to visit in most guides, but we like it not being so crowded!

This is on the red route of the hop on/off bus, so easy to get to.
You can combine this with a trip to
Every first Sunday of the month free! Otherwise €6 per adult.

Worth a visit!
