Owner description: The European Museum of Modern Art , MEAM, exhibits the finest Contemporary Figurative Art. It is owned by TheFoundation of Arts and Artists, and the purpose is to promote and diffuse Figurative Art of the 20th and 21st Centuries. The Foundation’s claim is to find a new contemporary language without denying tradition by progressing into the new Century. Moreover, the Foundation of Arts and Artists, organizes each year the Figurativas Painting and Sculpture Awards, and with the wesbiteFigurativas en Red opens a window with the artworks of the Contemporary Figurative artists. The MEAM is currentlly located at the Gomis Palace, in the middle of the streets of the Born in Barcelona, a neighborhood where culture is always present and reflects the charm of the old part of the city, an area that knew how to mix tradition and modernity, becoming a requiered visit for the tourits interested in the Monumental Barcelona. The MEAM is different from other Contemporary Art museums because it houses living artists who created Figurative Art. These artworks are hardly seen in other museums, collections or entities, to whom the word Contemporary is identified by experiment and abstraction.

“What a surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2013 via mobile

We loved the exhibition of contemporary figurative art. The building itself was worth the visit but we had never seen anything like the artwork that they showed. Very contemporary, but some paintings so figurative that we were convinced they were photos. I usually prefer abstract art and photographs but this blew my mind.

“A very eclectic collection.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2013

Frankly I was surprised to see so many realistic paintings of naked or semi naked women in provocative poses. I've not read a 'lads mag', but wouldn't surprised to see the like in them. I know since Renaissance times artists have painted such nudes and got away with it because they were deemed to represent a Greek or Roman Godess like Venus. That was then, but nowadays I am fed up of semi porn images airbrushed to look as realistic as possible. Give me a good honest represtational pose, where the brush strokes are visible and search to create the form. Integrity and honesty seem to be lost on these slick merchants.
I teach a life class, and so I am very familiar with personal integrity and some of the works in MEAN, in my opinion, lack it.
Other than these nudes, the collections is eclectic and there are some amazing sculpture works. One guy made his life size works from a base , I would suggest, of chicken wire covered with mod roc and finished off with brown wrapping paper. Very impressive on every level, not slick, not showy, just enormously powerful statements.
I know galleries are there to show all current work being produced at the time, so maybe they are.

“Nice museum, but depends on exhibition”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2013 via mobile

The museum is nice, but there is no permanent collection. Previous enthusiastic reviews may refer to previous exhibitions. In may 2013 we've seen an exhibiton of Catalan sculpture... Interesting, i don't regret it, but there's surely much else to be seen in. Barcelona

“Fantastic contemporary art”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2013

Brilliant range of contemporary art mainly figurative. Housed in a lovely building a stones throw from the Very busy Picasso Museum. It was very reasonable and very quite. Use the discount vouchers you get on the tourist buses and entrance is only 5 euros.

“Best Modern Art Museum of Barcelona”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2013

By far the most interactive and interesting collection of modern art, represented in Barcelona. Amazing stuff will capture the lens of your eye, for which you should definitely save some extra hours for your visit there. It’s small by size - huge by impression!
