In Barcelona for the day having arrived on the Thomson Dream cruise liner. After a somewhat exhausting day taking in the sights we decided to go for somewhere quiet to eat. We were on La Rambla at the time and decided to look at restaurants in adjoining side streets. We came across Cervecria Alex in the quiet shady Plaza Real. Being novices to Tapas the selection of food that we ordered was perfectly acceptable although possibly a bit on the dear side. Unfortunately neither of us knows any Spanish, we did French and German at school, so there was a bit of a misunderstanding over the drinks. We wanted a small and medium St Miguel which were delivered as a 50 cl glass and a 1.2 litre glass. It being a very hot day, and us in need of liquid refreshment, we accepted the drinks without argument although we did not manage to finish them. When the bill came we realised that if we ever visit Spain again we had better learn some basic Spanish in advance of our visit.

My partner and I stopped here briefly for a few drinks and some tapas before heading to see the Flamenco dancing. I wish we had gone somewhere else. We ordered the classic tapas set for 2 people as we thought 8 tapas for 32Euro wasn't too bad. The food was very average though. Most of it looked as if it had been prepared/cooked hours ago and just left over a heat lamp. We barely ate most of it.

The waiter said they didn't have regular sangria by the jug but we could try the white sangria. We hadn't tried that before so we said yes. Now perhaps I should have investigated the price beforehand, but the waiter never gave any indication. The drink cost us 24.99 and tasted pretty much like a slightly stronger barcadi breezer with a couple of pieces of fruit in it. We were extremely annoyed to have to pay 60 euros for the meal we had just had, especially as we had eaten excellent three courses meals with drinks at other places for 80Euros. Do not go here. There are a lot of other choices in the square, and I would go to any of them over this one. Expensive for nothing.

This is very bad choise. The plaza is of cource nice, but the restaurante is really bad! First, they call themeself cerveceria, and dont even have a beer meny. The beer tasted water! We ordered one tapa mix for two (bad choise but we where hungry) and a pasta. It took a while before they took the order, it took long, very long, before the pasta where served, because they forgotten it. We haved to remined them three times. The tapa for two was enough for one barely. When paying the bill it costed ca. 55 euro, and the beer costed 9 euro, totally overpriced even in Barcelona. The huge price was not listed in the meny which is really bad and strange for a cerveceria. We left the place hungry all of us!

We gave (the nice) waiter 100 euro. It took half an hour to get the change back, and we have to remind him. It s a tourist place of cource whit artist and people who sell things, but this is normal. But the "resturante" is a BIG tourist trap and a complete robbery. Do not ever go near this place!!
