You can walk there easily, and once there you will be rewarded with a great view of Barcelona et environs and the sea . . .interesting exhibit on early Jewish life in Barcelona - hence the origin the name Montjuic . . .

If you visit Barcelona for just a day or two then probably a visit to Montjuic Castle is not essential. But if you are there for a little longer then it is a good experience because it gives amazing views in all directions across Barcelona. Although can walk up to the castle the best way to travel is by Aeri (cable car). This leaves from just above the furnicular station (rising up from Paral lel on L2 and L3). There is an economical restaurant and cafe within the castle, plus toilets and gift shops.

we took the cable car up to the castle - its the one next to the funicular not the one across the port - and it was eu7 . as it was not busy we had the 6 seater car to ourselves and got great views. At the top a short walk tio the castle and a great surprisew as it was free. Great views across Barca and up and down the coast. Great little find and then the cable car back down

WE landed here hoping to take the cable car down to Bacelonetta, but found out we were in the wrong spot! Not to worry, we took the cable car up to Montjuic and walked about on a glorious sunny day and enjoyed the gorgeous views. Then we got on the 150 bus down to the right spot for the other cable car, but decided the lines were too long so went for a bite at the Miramar hotel.
Montjuic was lovely, but there did not seem to be a lot of information about the place or guides... perhaps we missed it, but we only saw one plaque telling us about Luis Comanys and that was it...

The cable car costs over 10 euros return and is terrifying, it stopped mid journey for no reason and rocked in the wind. The gardens you walk through from Para-lel pernicular stop (covered by a metro ticket, runs every 10 minutes) are lovely with plenty of stopping points. The views from the castle are spectacular, they even beat Park Guell. There's a little room with a bit about the history of the Castle which isn't well signed sp try not to miss it. It's free to enter all if thet castle and grounds and is well worth the effort.
