Owner description: This fascinating area is steeped in history, with city hall located in the same spot where kings once reigned. You'll find narrow streets and squares here, with Gothic mansions, museums, historic churches, bars and restaurants. The Placa del Rei is reputedly the place where King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella welcomed Columbus after his voyage to America.

My wife and I strolled through the Ciutat Vella each day of our weeklong trip to Barcelona this past February. The narrow alleys are intriguing with the variety of shops that are around each corner. It seems like there is a pastry shop on each block. Our guide on our tapas tour with Spanish Trails filled us in on a lot of history as we walked through the Ciutat Vella. We found a couple of cafes for lunch that featured their meal of the day. This was a can't miss area for us to experience the Old City of Barcelona.

A lovely place to stroll. A bit of a hustle bustle, but not crazy.

A charming selection of nooks and crannies to explore, get lost in the laberynth. Be careful after dark.

A beatiful area to switch from Barcelona modernity to its history. you will find amazing old building and church around each corner and lot of museum and exhibitions make it alive. The fresh shadow of the tiny streets is very welcoming in summer

"getting lost" in this small town is a must. Soak up the atmosphere and find a small restaurant where to spend a couple of hours in good companion.
