“Great location”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

We stayed at Hostel Fernando for 5 nights in July 2013. It is in a great central city location very near the cathedral, La Rambla and a metro station. It has a 24 hour reception and the staff throughout the hotel were friendly and extremely helpful. Our room was right at the top and we heard no street noise at night and it had a t.v., safe, hairdryer, ensuite and was cleaned daily and kept very clean. There was always hot water in the shower whatever time of day and there was aircon in the room. There was a varied age group at the hotel, not just backpackers, and there is a lift so suitable for people who might find it difficult to climb up stairs. Breakfast was included in price and was a typical European style ... cheese, ham, cereal, croissants, toast, fruit juices, tea, coffee etc ... on a help yourself basis. There was a common room, luggage lockers you could use for free ... great on your last day when you want to go out in the city after you have checked out. There's wifi and two computers you can use for l euro. The free walking tours ... we did Runner Bean and I would really recommend doing one, was informative, fun and full of useful tips on what to see and where to go in Barcelona ... also collect you from the hotel lobby. We felt very at home at Hotel Fernando and would highly recommend it. We paid 82 euro a night for two of us in a triple room and we felt this was really good value.

Location was awesome (2 min walk to Metro and in heart of Gothic Quarter); WiFi decent; breakfast poor (white bread, bagged crescents, cheese/meat, cereal, warm yogurt); 24-hour reception with good English; last night was loud--lots of young people here

We were recommended this Hostel and the previous reviews on Trip advisor were a great help, the Hostel was in a fantastic location – right in the heart of the city, it was clean; the staff were friendly and very helpful. We asked for a room at the back because we thought there might be noise during the early hours and they accommodated us. The room was fully air conditioned, the shower room was very modern and the room was cleaned daily, including the change of towels. The breakfast that was included in the price was excellent value – all the items you would expect and plenty to eat. Shafqat the gentleman who serviced the breakfast room was lovely – nothing was too much trouble for him. We would thoroughly recommend this Hostel for a stay in this lovely city.

Room Tip: We asked for a room in the back because we are not late party people and did not want to hear noise.

The best thing was the location between the Ramblas and Jaume square. Near to "Liceu" and "Jaume" subway station. The hostal is located in the gothic block, a very easy and nice to walk around. A lot of good and cheep restaurants nearby. It was a cozy hostal with a very friendly staff. The continental breakfast was enought for a couple with a child.

I stayed in room 308, just renovated single room on the back of the building. The room was clean, quite spacious and the bathroom brand new. Lots of water came out of the rainshower. Airconditioning is present, but didn't need that, just opened the window. Location is perfect, 3 min walk from the Ramblas and Liceu metro. Have lockers if you want to leave your bag after checkout. Staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is sufficient, toast, croissant, jam, ham, cheese, sausage, yogurt, cereals, no complains about that. The hotel is in the middle of the city and for this price, i am not sure you'll find a better place. Would definitely recommend this place.

Room Tip: Stayed in 308, on the back of the building, however on the beginning of the hallway, sometimes a bit...

This hotel is in a very good location close to La Ramblas and the old Gothic quarter. The area is a bit touristy but that is to be expected. Also close to a Metro station. Room was very good with a balcony overlooking the street. The glass in the balcony door was double glazed meaning there was almost no street noise at night.

We stayed in Hostal Fernando in April 2013 (77 €/night, twin bed, private bathroom, breakfast included). Our room was very small, but very clean. Bathroom was good and there was also a hairdryer which was nice surprise! :) Breakfast is very basic; coffee, juice, bread, cheese, yoghurt, cereals etc. The hotel is perfectly located in the heart of Barri Gotico. The street Carrer de Ferran is easy to find and it´s 2 minutes’ walk from Liceu metro station. Carrer de Ferran is crowded with locals and tourists, and there are lot of shops, restaurants and bars. I would definitely recommend Fernando if you want to stay in the middle of the city and explore fascinating narrow streets of Barri Gotico and Raval. :)
