Basic Room for 2 (11) but clean and fit for purpose - namely somewhere to sleep and shower. Ideally placed for Gothic Quarter and El Born - both have great buildings, bars, tapas venues. 20 mins walk to beach if you want to go there. 15 minutes walk from Placa Catalunya for the airport bus. 25 mins walk for Sagrida Familia. Dont bother with taxis, take in the city on foot. Las Ramblas less than 10 mins away and the same for both food markets.
Room was at back of building but still a bit noisy with passing bikes and tourists but thats what you expect in the city.
Only downside was the loo. The walls to the loo do not go to the top of the ceiling so if you are conscious of the noise of your ablutions, you will need to turn on the tv. Scented spray is also provided by the owner for excess smell from last nights tapas.... : )

Room Tip: The signage to the pension is discreet so look out for the large coffee house virtually next door. Also, the pension is located on the 3rd floor of the building.

A simple Pension with basic furnishings. Very clean & safe. Great location- a 2 minute walk from The Cathedral & Gothic area. Jaume 1 Metro station is just across the road, and behind that the Born area with interesting shops, chuches and squares. Our room was at the front of the building with a small balcony overlooking the busy Via Laietana but with the windows and shutters closed it was well soundproofed. The wall mounted fan kept the room cool enough.

The good things first. The room was clean, had hot water, safe location. Very well situated - close to the metro, five minutes walking instance from anywhere we had to be. Great Irish bar downstairs with food and a good beer selection. Supermarket in 2 minutes walking distance with a good selection of food and drinks.

The bad... The room was tiny. We were prepared for pension and not hotel quality, but still. There was barely room to move and no room for our suitcase and clothes in the tiny cupboard. No AC but there is a fan that partially helps (we were here in August, temperatures were around 27C during the day). There was light from the hallway that made it difficult to sleep, noises from adjacent rooms, etc. because the whole facility is basically a big apartment split into a bunch of tiny rooms - and not very professionally constructed either.

The bathroom is tiny and it is nearly impossible to take a shower without hurting yourself or spilling water everywhere. The hose to the showerhead keeps hitting you on the head. The sink is really inconvenient and tiny, with only cold water. The bed and mattress are really inadequate - every tiny move wakes up the other person. No fridge in the room so it's impossible to bring breakfast or supper from the supermarket, or even drinks.

To summarize, it was not very expensive (although not cheap!) but we expected something better. There is no chance we will come back. We would happily pay more for a larger room, AC, a fridge, and a decent bathroom.

Elmer and his wife may not speak a great deal of English, but they run a very tidy hostel in an amazing location. Jaume 1 metro is a minute away, the road opposite leads to the Born area and the Ramblas are accessible within 5 minutes. You can walk, get a bus or one-stop metro journey to the Barceloneta beach area. The two bed twin was much nicer than the three bed room, which was a bit too basic. But great value.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back. Too noisy at the front.

The central location on Via Laeitana was ideal - next to metro station, near La Rambla, the beach and Plaza Catalunya. The rooms were simple but comfortable room, one with a view over Via Laeitana, although there was a bit of street noise in the this one. Good wifi, friendly welcome and helpful staff (particularly when we got separated while drinking and needed to be let in when one of us returned late without a key). Great price considering it is in the heart of Barcelona.

Room Tip: Front rooms have view, back rooms are quieter.
