I went with my Daughter-in-law to Barcelona on 20th March for a long weekend. We stayed at the Avenida Palace and was pleasantly surprised at how impressive the building was. The Gilt staircase is beautiful and although I had read a few reviews that said it was 'tired', I can honestly say we saw no sign of this. Our room was clean and well furnished, the traffic noise was a bit intrusive with the windows open of a night but that really was our fault as we never mastered the air con. The restaurant did a three course meal with a glass of wine and coffee for 20 Euro, there was a good choice and it was nicely cooked, we only ate out once at La Poma on The Rambla and it was awful.

The hotel is in an excellent location with really lovely fountains at each end of the block. The metro was just outside and the airport train not far around the corner. We were a couple of minutes from The Rambla and all in all were ideally situated.

It is a shame that European city hotels have not got in the habit of supplying tea/coffee facilities in the room as I really missed my morning/evening cuppa but perhaps if a few more people ask, we may yet see this happen.

All in all a very pleasant hotel and would recommend it.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 705 which was very nice with a view over the city.

this is an old time hotel. It is a bit pricey but is central and close to transport links for all tourist spots. It's at the top of Las Ramblas so the location is great. if you can get a good deal grab it

Just returned from a four day break in Barcelona.First visit to the city. Not having the stamina for walking any great distances any more and wary of the underground, we wanted somewhere central to some of the major attractions. The advice we received was to try the Avenida Palace and werent we lucky? This hotel is a dream and so elegant and stylish. It may not have some of the gloss of some of the more modern chains but it has a charm that suggests it's owners know what thet wish to achieve and will not change things just for the sake of change. The hotel was spotless, the rooms comfortable and the people on the desk were helpful. Many of the staff are of an age to suggest they had spent many years with the hote,l which gives a hint to what the Avenida is all about. The breakfast buffet allowed plenty of choice and for other meals we ventured out to some of the excellent Tapas restaurants within easy reach of the hotel. My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Avenida palace hotel very much indeed.

Room Tip: Even the rooms facing the street are quiet ,having secondary glazing which practically sound proofs...

I stayed here as part of a large group - on the positive side the hotel is lovely and the rooms were nice. The location is fantastic - a great area of Barcelona and only a few steps from a major Metro stop. The staff at the front desk was also very helpful and friendly. Less positively, the breakfast was pretty mediocre (not nearly as nice as the hotel we stayed in in Madrid). The worst aspect, however, was the WiFi, which was absolutely horrific. There is free WiFi, but it is so incredibly slow that it is virtually impossible to do anything. You can pay extra for "business" WiFi (10 Euros per day), which sometimes was OK but at other times was just as slow (even after paying for the business WiFi it once took me about 30 minutes to go to my email and send a single message). It's pretty shameful that a hotel of this quality employs gimmicks like asking you to pay extra for better WiFi, and the fact that it was often still slow is even worse. If you don't care about WiFi then this might be a good choice, but if you have any hopes of remaining connected while in Barcelona then look elsewhere.

Stayed for two nights as as part of a trip with some friends to watch football in Barcelona. Good sized and comfortable rooms but could probably do with a bit of renovation. It's clear that at one time this was probably amongst the very finest hotels that Barcelona had to offer and there was nothing that disappointed particularly at the price we paid. Great breakfast buffet and helpful staff. Worth considering of you want somewhere very centrally located.

This hotel has it all - and then some. The location is within easy walking distance of Barcelona's hub, the rooms are comfortable, the rates reasonable, and the staff is fabulous. Their concierge can arrange all sorts of tours and transfers, making it very easy to plan a stay in Barcelona.

I stayed at this hotel for a one night, quick stop over whilst working in Barcelona, the hotel was booked by my client. From the outset of walking into the hotel it was obvious that it was a little tired. Shame as it has some very nice elegant and grand appearances, but it really needs some money throwing at it. I never managed to have a proper breakfast as I left at 06.30hrs, but I was allowed to run in a grab a welcome croissant before departing. From what I saw it looked like a wide and varied spread of food for all tastes.
My bedroom was fairly small but functional, the bathroom was clean and fairly large given the bedroom size.
The one downside to this hotel was the internet, it was dreadful, if you need good internet this is not for you.
