I always try pay attention to trip advisor good and bad reviews, bad reviews are a big red flag and most of the time they are so right when is more than three of them. During my visit to Barcelona, I did not get a chance to see this hotel's reviews. BIG MISTAKE, all the bad reviews in here are correct, the hotel do have a rude staff, the rooms are dated and dirty, in particular the bathroom with hair and mold. The construction noise will keep you awake. The air conditioning does not work. You will think that with all the bad reviews they will get their act together, but nothing has improvedsince my last visit.
To me the most important things when I stay in at hotel, # 1 Cleanness #2 Peace & Quite, and #3 good hospitality service and comfort. Well this hotel has none of them. Remember a bad review is a bad sign.

Room Tip: There are so much better hotels in Barcelona for the same price.

As there were a few 'bad' reviews recently, I decided to email reservation to request for a quiet and newly renovated room for our 5 nights stay. No reply for 48 hours so forwarded the email to the deputy manager Mr Xavier Gaspart who promptly replied with his assurance that our request would be met. On arrival me and my wife were welcomed by Mr Gaspart and his friendly staff and much to our delight a complimentary bottle of bubbly was brought up to our room later as the visit was to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday. The room on the 4th floor was spacious, clean, had a newly decorated bathroom, original art deco fittings and furniture and comfy beds. We couldn't get the aircon to work so ended up with having to sleep with our window opened.

Location of the hotel is superd and is within walking distance to all the major attractions in Barcelona. There are also some fantastic restaurants within 10 meters of the hotel. Mr Gaspart had recommended Ciudad Condal and the tapas were very good. Next to this is Nostrum which sells delicious microwave ready meals(self service or take away) for 2 to 5 euros. Big selection and very popular with the young. Wife claimed that their risottos were tastier than the paella we had at the Ramblas! Expect queues at both during peak times. The 9th floor restuarant/tapas bar/buffet in El Corte Ingle's department store with a view of Catalunya Square & half of the city is also good value for local grub.

Great city and will definitely stay here again if visiting Barcelona.

We were 3 adults and got a large room for 3. The room was well equiptted, and the bathroom was very large yet without any ventailation. The room was a bit worm and we had to open the window in order to cool it down. Breakfast was rich and tastey and service was perfect. The staff was very friendlly.
Location is best, just 200 meters from plaza catalunia with a metro station location 20 meters in fron of the hotel.

We booked this place for a reunion of friends from different cities. Before choosing a hotel, I asked my Catalan friends for advice. This hotel was definitely the right choice after such consultation.

Of course, you can see that the interior design is opulent. The location is central and excellent, with the Metro station just right outside the hotel. But it is not too central: believe me, you do not want to stay in Barri Gòtic.

The porter carried our things to our room on the top floor. Our room had a nice view towards Tibidabo, and had a king-sized double bed. The hotel restaurant was a place to people-watch and being watched. All the staff were very helpful. In sum, we felt that we were well taken care of.

Room Tip: The top floor seems a reasonable choice for quietness and view. The construction seems to be going o...

We stayed at this hotel around thanksgiving holiday. The hotel is in a very good location. I think that is the only good thing about it. The room is really old.The hotel is very dated. We even saw mold the bath room. One day...we came early and decided to sit in the lobby "lounge" area and use their wifi, we were just surprised how no one came to us to see if we want to order anything. That same night, One lady came from her room with her pillow and started yelling at the front desk guy and telling him to give her a new one. At that point we already knew that the hotel has some issue about cleanness. The following day, some loud construction noise woke us up around 7am and when we called the front desk, we were told that they were doing some kind of work next door. It was crazy how they didn't even bother to wait until the afternoon. The hotel doesn't even look like its operating. You don't see a lot of people working. We were so not happy about this choice. But we did it based on the earlier reviews.I don't know how trip advisor viewers got this one wrong.

Our stay at this hotel was a total nightmare, first very dated, rude staff and noisy. We feel our trip to Barcelona was ruined since this hotel is the worse of the worse. First our room was dirty, we asked the staff to clean it again, the cleaning lady did a poor job and when we asked to clean her to clean again she said in Spanish "If you want it so clean, do it yourself." My husband who speaks Spanish understood her rude comment and replied to her in the same language, she was shocked cause she was not expecting him to know Spanish. The food was cold, the front service lack of social skills, the construction noise in the middle of the night keep us awake all night. Then around 5:00 AM we got a woke up call we did not ask for, and two days after the same thing happened. Instead of enjoying the city we ended up sleeping during the day to recuperate. This was so hard and we don't recommend anyone this hotel. So beware of how you nice vacation can turn into a frustrating experience, just horrible and never again will stay there.

Room Tip: Keep away from this hotel.

The Hotel Avenida Palace is a nice, comfortable, clean, well-located hotel, and if it hadn't been for the construction/renovation going on, I would give it at least 4 stars. My wife and I arrived late morning on an overseas flight and looked forward to a nap that afternoon after checking in. It sounded like Workers were removing floor tile from the room above ours, however, using chisels, hammers and grinders! Needless to say, it was hard to rest! Except for that, the stay was very nice. Hotel staff were helpful, the lobby and gilded staircase are beautiful, and the hotel location is one block from La Rambla and Plaza Catalunya, a transportation hub. A few steps out the door to the right, there is a great little tapas bar on the corner, always busy with locals, attesting to its quality/value, and both up and down La Rambla are countless more restaurants and shops. El Gotic, the oldest section of the city, with its narrow streets and shops, the cathedral and a great archeological and city history museum are all a short walk. A subway stop is right out the hotel door and a major connecting hub is less than two blocks away at the Plaza. We would stay here again, but only after the construction is finished!
