We were slightly disappointed to be given a room with no view only one side window so close to the next building that you had to lean out and look up to see what the weather was like! But it was a very good size suite lovely large bed with double sinks in the bathroom and we decided it would at least be quiet.
The hotel staff were friendly and helpful pointing out the sights and helping with the room safe.
As others have said the big plus is the location. Handy for all the main tourist areas. A very nice coffee shop across the road to the right Matamala did great coffee and pastries for breakfast and a good line in Tapas at lunch time. Obama's bar next to the hotel also good ,nice selection of beers and cocktails and food tho we didn't eat there. We also had a lovely meal in a small restaurant somewhere behind the Gothic cathedral called Sukor.
We liked the atmosphere of the hotel very individual decor especially the staircase. Didn't have a "chain" feel. Would recommend as a good place to explore a very distinctive city.

Evidently the Beatles stayed here, which is equivalent in the US to Washington slept here. During the PM there's musak version of Beatles hits in the lobby and once in a while we heard an original. The best feature of this hotel was its location. A few steps to the Placa Catalunya and the modernist mansions. Ornate lobby with renovated rooms gives a Belle Epoque meets Pottery Barn quality. Our room overlooked an alley and was dark but comfortable and larger than most urban European hotels. Bath was very spacious and clean, but the tubs are narrow and a little difficult to navigate if you're over 6 feet. Given location and room comfort, would rate this place 'excellent,' and 'very good value' except that they nickle and dime on wifi, charging an exorbitant 30 Es extra per night. It's free in the lobby for stingy 1/2-hour periods. The staff was for the most part quite helpful; they would give us renewal slips for wifi if we needed to be on for more than 1/2 hour.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the air shaft are dark. Front rooms are lighter.

We spent Christmas in Barcelona. We stayed in Avenida which was a terrible experience. We changed room 3 times because the central heating didn't function and finally they brought us a mobile air heater for the bathroom. Breakfast was poor and overvalued, there wasn't concierge, there wasn't piano bar like they published through the net, the personnel is from average to bad and every time the metro passes you think you will experience an earthquake. I do not recommend you this place at all.

The location was excellent for our first trip to Barcelona. We didn't eat at the hotel, was expensive and with so many other places to eat in the city there was no benefit. Breakfast for 20 euros was way over the top! Location, location, location.

Stayed at the Avenida Palace for my husbands 50th birthday. I read some of the reviews after booking and was concerned by some of the comments however on arrival we were very happy with our choice of hotel. The location is perfect. We were allocated room 811 - thank you Javier. What a fantastic room, a small juliet balcony to the front and a huge terrace to the side giving us views across Barcelona. Breakfast was included which offered plenty choice although the top ups of coffee were hard to come by, the waiters were more interested in clearing and cleaning empty tables. The hotel could do with a lick of paint, bathroom tiles re gouting and some of the carpets replacing but we had a great stay.................until some scum bag stole our rucksack containing a camera, expensive sunglasses x 2 pairs and other belongings from Starbucks whilst we had a coffee. Thanks whoever you are, pictures of my husbands 50th birthday holiday gone forever.

Room Tip: it has to be room 811

I stayed at Hotel Avenida Palace while on a tour from the U.S. There were about 50 us. We arrived about 7:30 a.m. and of course rooms weren't ready at that time of day. I was traveling with my daughter who was pregnant at the time. When we told the desk clerk that we would like a room right away, they got us in within an hour. We had a very nice room with a comfortable bed and nice bathroom. The whole front desk staff were very nice and accommodating. They recommended great restaurants each night and were very helpful.

The lobby and front of the hotel are beautiful. We had breakfast included each day in our tour. Lots of food and a good variety. The location of this hotel could not be better. Right in the middle of everything and easy to walk to lots of places.

I would absolutely recommend this hotel to a friend.

The location is brilliant, the hotel is good but didn't wow us in anyway. Our 2 adjoining rooms worked well and the staff were fine. Didn't try the restuarant or the bar which has to be a first!! Barcelona was brilliant though in everyday and the location of our hotel certainly aided to our fantastic weekend!
