We are family of 6 where 2 are vegetarian . Finding a restaurant in Barcelona (or in Northern Spain generally) that caters for vegetarians and also for the 20 year old boy/man who wants a steak is not easy. So step up Restaurant Gut. This is a really nice restaurant on a small street north of the tourist area (but only 5 minutes in a taxi) where the menu gives a decent and interesting choice for vegetarians (both starters and mains) along with duck, steak, sea bass etc. The young people running the restaurant are extremely pleasant and helpful and the food is very interesting, well prepared and imaginative. An English version of the menu is available (also online), the waiters spoke English and could not have been more helpful. An interesting wine list too (we had an organic Rioja for €15 which was lovely). Irrespective of the vegetarian point, the food is very good in its own right and I would strongly recommend it. We were staying at the El Palace Hotel and were so impressed with Gut that we gave its card to the concierge and suggested that if guests wanted a very good restaurant that catered for both carnivores and vegetarians (something the hotel's Caelis Michelin starred restaurant told me they couldn't do) they should send them to Gut. Bill for 6 including the wine, a gin and tonic and water was €184. Well done Restaurant Gut.
