Barcelona has many local markets supporting local communities. Santa Caterina is in The Born area. A lovely market with a beautiful coloured wave roof. It is worth a visit just to see the building. The market has terrific fruit and vegetables, meat, fresh fish, bakeries, and cafes. We loved it, much nicer than La Boqueria. Full of locals, a bit quieter, with great produce.

We came across this market by chance and its unique roof lured us in.
We were glad it did.
This is a beautiful market, which was not packed with people, thus it gave us a chance to experience it at ease.
There was a lot of local products for sale and the prices seemed totally reasonable.
Well worth the visit.

For new years eve, we decide to cook our own so came here for some ham cheese and seafood. Staff are friendly but bit pushy yet the price is right. Highly recommend if you want a local place.

This isn't the big, bustling Boqueria Market a few hundred yards west of here, which makes it more welcoming for those who don't enjoy crowds and chaos. We visited both markets the same day while out for a walk, and while St Caterina's lacks the boisterous personality of its bigger neighbor, does a market with a dozen or 20 fruit stands selling essentially the same beautiful fruit or veggies or cheeses offer more than one with five or seven? I'm guessing 95 percent of what is available in one is available in both so people who are shopping and not just looking can do as well here as at the big one. And for people just looking, you can get the feel for what people buy and eat in the city as well here.

I liked Boqueria just fine; I'm happy in crowds and chaos. I enjoy seeing how locals market their goods and how people buy them, and appreciated the energy of the big market, but a lot of what is good about Boqueria, is equally good here. If all I wanted was 50 gr. of something or a bottle of olive oil or a fruit smoothy, I'd come here.

Very clean and attractive.
