“Good location - good price”
Reviewed May 1, 2012

Good points:
- best price (you can send email to owners and, maybe, you will get a better price)
- location (next to Citadela Parc, Zoo, Passeig del Born, Chocolate Museum, 10 minutes to metro Jaume and Barcelonetta, 15 min to Rambla).
- very nice and helpfull owners (Jorge and Aida).
- clean room and bathroom (we had a room with private bathroom).
- a good restaurant (Navia) with raisonables prices is in the same building.
- safety (you must ring for enter in the building)
- a PC with internet in the hall (but very instable connection).

Bad points:
- noisy (our room had street view to Estacion Franca-Avinguda fel Marques de l’Argentera).
- old furniture (the doors and the windows).
- no breakfast

I stayed here with my boyfriend and another couple, there were only two rooms left when we booked, a private double with en suite shower and private balcony and a triple room with shared shower (which obviously cost less) BOOK THE SHARED!! It was so much nicer than our room which was right next to the reception, as its open 24 hours whenever someone wanted to come in a very loud buzzer went off, the walls are very thin so it felt like it was going off next to our heads!! The shower was very very basic, more like a hand held dribble, as for the balcony, you couldn't actually get on it as it was so small and old air con unit took up all the space. The side of the hotel we were on was next to a very busy main road, didn't get much sleep! Though my friends although had shared facilities (Only with 2/3 other rooms as far as we could see) was very clean, had lots of character, a proper balcony that all 4 of us could stand on and the was facilities were so much better and cleaner, I was quite tempted to use them rather our private shower.
Location was nice, right next the Ciudadela Park and 10-15 mins walk away to Las Ramblas

The location of the pension was pretty good, close to a metro station and only ten minutes walking far from La rambla. The reception was open 24/7, it was a pity that the staff couldn't talk in english though.
We booked a double room, decent double bed, small TV and a big enough wardrobe for a couple. Being close to one of the main road made the room a bit noisy at night, but nothing too annoying. I would reccomend it for short stays and if you are looking for a good compromise price/facilities/location.

Just returned home from a great stay in Barcelona at Pension Ciudadela. The helpful staff were at hand 24 hours a day, rooms were very clean, safe and sweet. We had a private bathroom, the shower was fantastic! Our rooms also had a good TV with plenty of channels to choose from.

There are great transport links via the Barceloneta Metro station and the surrounding area is fantastic- no shortages of things to do! We walked down to the beach for a late night stroll which was only 10 minutes walk away.

Will definitely be staying here again on any subsequent trips to Barcelona. 10/10. Nice work Pension Ciudadela!

This is a very average Pension for the price. It is passable, but not one I would recommend. The first night was a rough one since we arrived around midnight. The triple room with bathroom had an industrial feel, was very noisy, had a rock-hard bed, and there was a bright orange light that cannot be turned off. When I asked if there was another room available, the short, middle-aged man working at the desk raised his voice and told me that everywhere in Barcelona is noisy and the light is required by law. He spent 5 minutes (in Spanish) lecturing me. I was taken aback because I didn't expect a simple request in a polite tone would invoke 5 minutes of him berating me.

I would have given this place a one star review if it weren't for the nice woman who offered me a new room the next morning without me asking. She was very sympathetic, spoke excellent English, and apologized for the inconvenience. The rest of the stay was pleasant, and although the new room was quite small, it was good enough. My suggestion to the hotel would be to fire the man working the night shift and replace the windows. Even with the windows closed, it sounds like they are open, and the traffic can get quite noisy.

The location is in an excellent area of Barcelona; it's near a major metro stop and it's near the Picasso mueusum and the waterside. Unfortunately the room itself was pretty bad. Just to get inside you have to ring a bell (my girlfriend and I don't know Spanish, and we walked right by its gate three times before figuring out we had to ring a bell to get inside. Our remote for the air conditioning didn't work -- it was very hot inside. Finally we said something to the person behind the desk and we were given another remote. Then -- no joke -- the air conditioner did work, but it leaked really badly!

You have to give your keys to the front desk before you leave too -- the only way to get in is by ringing that bell for the person at the front desk to buzz the door open. This is different; not what we expected for the price.

But the staff was extremely helpful and nice. And that goes a long way.

We stayed here for 4 nights and couldn't ask for more! The daytime staff were helpful and friendly, the room was clean and spacious, the location was great (walking distance to las ramblas and the beach). It is true that it could get a bit noisy from traffic, but we still managed to sleep without earplugs.
