We spent 3 nights in this hotel before going on a cruise in May. Lovely view of cathedral where there was always something to see. In the mornings, there would be couples with their professional photographer taking their wedding photos with the lovely background. This hotel was in a good area for walking to other areas of city. Workers at check in were far from friendly--it was like we were bothering them. Room quite plain, but the interested view made it OK

Room Tip: Book room with cathedral view

Very nice hotel. Beautifully located on Cathedral Plaza. Helpful, nice staff. If exchanging money, you get a better exchange at the hotel than at Exact Change on the corner, which is not Exact and is a rip-off. Also, the ATM (Caixa) gives an even better exchange rate.

We just returned from a visit to Barcelona and stayed at Hotel Colon. It was a wonderful place to stay. It is a very elegant older hotel, located directly across from the Cathedral of Barcelona. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and pleasing. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The bathrooms spacious and very clean. It is an older hotel, but very well maintained. The breakfast was very nice, especially the coffee. We were walking distance to most sites and did not even take the metro. The atmosphere is very European. They have a nice restaurant and a piano player in the evenings. We really loved this hotel and will definitely stay here again.

This is a htoel that offers a very basic room but has decent service and a good location. Wonderful bar and dining area. Breakfast was included and selection and quallity was good. However rooms were bare and drab.

It is challenging to find a hotel room in Barcelona for a family of four but this hotel is able to accomodate all four of us (2 adults and 2 children) in one hotel room. I booked far in advance so breakfast was included in the price of the room. When we arrived at 1:30 pm our room was not ready and they wanted us to return in an hour. We returned 45 minutes later and the room was ready. We couldn't have asked for anything better: the room (room 419) was a corner room in the back of the hotel along the sidestreet (where no cars travel.) Our room was 2 good size rooms with 2 twin beds in each room, which easily accomodated all of us. The room had 2 balconies, and one of them allowed a partial view of the Barcelona Cathedral (AMAZING.) At night with the balcony doors closed, we heard no noise allowing us to sleep very well. The room was very clean and the beds were very comfortable.

They provided plenty of toiletries for all 4 of us. It is interesting to me there was no shower curtain, so I expected water to be all over the floor; but it was not as bad as I thought it would be (even for my kids.)

The room had an in-room safe so we were able to leave our passports, extra money, credit cards, and ipads while we explored the beautiful city of Barcelona.

The breakfast was an excellent European breakfast consisting of meats, cheeses, eggs, fruit, cereal, danish, coffee, tea, juices including fresh squeezed orange juice. We had the breakfast buffet both days and it was wonderful both days.

We stayed here for 2 nights last month prior to taking a cuise. At 7pm the night before the cruise, I realized I forgot my daughter's swimsuit. We asked the front desk staff where to find one and they provided great suggestions and a map; so, we ventured out and found one just in time for the cruise.

The elevators are very small; if you are claustrophobic you will want to take the stairs.

The location was perfect. We walked wherever we went and it was very easy to walk around Barcelona from this hotel; it is close to many good tourist spots including La Ramblas, Bouqueria Market, Barcelona Cathedral, and Santa Maria Del Mar. We highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: request a quiet room; our corner room was spacious for family of 4

The hotel is perfectly centered near the Gothic Quarter. As soon as you walk outside you are in a busy square, right across from the Catheral de Barcelona. The staff were very friendly and accommodating of our big group. They will take your key when you leave and you just pick up the key when you come back in. The rooms are all different but equally beautiful. I have fond memories of this place.

Room Tip: Try to get one of the balcony rooms facing the Barcelona Cathedral.

Stayed here 4 nights in June in a junior suite overlooking the Cathedral Barcelona. Really enjoyed our stay. Great location in two senses of the word.

First the cathedral barri gothi is a major tourist attraction and you feel you're in the action, but not too much. Nice Plaza with several restaurants and touristy things, including a tourist information center, food shopping, bank, a hop on hop off bus stop and metro Jaume stop all within 5 minutes.

Second, you're got the gothic quarter all around you, the rambia 10 minutes away including the awesome Mercato de la Bouqueria, two different metro lines, and you're not that far from the Plaza Catalonya - definitely walkable - 15-20 minutes (and I'm a slow walker). Incredible selection of restaurants and stores in the vicinity.

Staff was quite professional, spoke great english, and were quite accommodating. When we broke a glass in our bathroom after hours, the night clerk came up and swept it himself. They gave us great directions and advice, including restaurants, what beach to go to and how to get there, and where to pick up our tickets for sacred familia cathedral (incredible). Really can't say enough about how good they were. House cleaning was great.

Rooms were nice and clean and spacious. Bathrooms were nice Free wifi.

Some possible negatives - slightly old fashioned in decor and furnishings, (which we didn't mind, but it's not like a modern glass and aluminum type place), also people do seem to collect in the plaza by the church on the weekends, to raise a ruckus and sing. One night we had some American choir go through their entire repertory of songs until 11pm. The sound proofing is good, but you could hear it at a distance. One thing you couldn't hear is your neighbors to either side, above or below at all.

Anyway, quite nice, better than good. Enjoyed it so much we cancelled the hotel we were going to stay at on our way out for one night and re-booked here.

Thank you very much for your stay at the Hotel Colón and your explanatory feedback. We are most thankful for constructive reviews for they allow us to enhance our understanding of our guests' needs and wants.

For any leisure traveller interested in visiting Barcelona's many cultural and tourist attractions, our hotel is definitely an excellent choice: Many of Barcelona's hotspots are virtually round the corner and the city's efficient and easy-to-use metro system takes you to sites further away.

Don't hesitate to return to Hotel Colón if you come again to Barcelona, we will be waiting for you.
