The location is unbeatable on the Cathedral square, the sound-proofing good and the hotel staff efficient and cheerful. Market breakfasts 200 yards away, airport bus 400 yards. Could not ask for more.

One of the best hotels I've stayed in. Great location (just off Las Ramblas) in a huge square near a beautiful cathedral. Lots of nice little shops/cafes/bars nearby and felt like a quite a safe area. There were three of us staying in the same room. The room itself was huge, and very clean. The bathroom was amazing - very modern look, elegant, two sinks, bidet, spa bath, and the best shower I've ever had. Lots of toiletries for use, large clean towels - the beds weren't the most comfortable I've slept in but weren't too bad. We had two balconies, which was nice, although we didn't have much of a view as we were facing some offices. The room was pretty quiet, but a little noisy in the square outside, with garbage removal vans seeming to operate all through the night until the early hours.
All in all, none of us had any complaints, and felt we'd made a really excellent choice in staying here. We'll be coming back next year, and will definitely stay here!

Great location for this elegant "old traditional style" hotel.

Stayed in a suite which was comfortable - 2 rooms - small lounge with sofa and chairs plus bedroom.

Bathroom functional - however slightly tired in comparisson to the modern hotels you get everywhere.

Breakfast - simple with a limited choice - I ended up having Ham&Cheese sandwiches most days.

This hotel is very well situated opposite the cathedral and very handy for shopping, eating out and exploring the Gothic quarter. The service is excellent, the staff multilingual, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is not cheap at 18 euros (Feb 1913) but there is plenty of choice and it is very well presented. The in-house restaurant offers a menu to cater for most tastes, the salads are very good and the pianist is a bonus. The rooms are very clean and quiet, plenty of space for luggage and a safe is provided for personal items. I would definitely stay there again.

Yes, the "look" of the hotel is traditional, rather than modern and trendy. But it's an elegant traditional, and has an air of understated luxury, at least in the public spaces. We had a 2-room suite with Cathedral view, worth every penny for the upgrade. We had no problems with noise at all, and our first weekend included a loud festival taking place in the square in front of the Cathedral - we had a view of it all. The Cathedral plaza is a wonderful gathering point with antiques market on Thursdays, crafts market on the weekends, Saldana dancing and women's lacing tables on Sundays. It's always lively and there are world-class buskers (musicians) playing violin, guitar, and singing opera directly in front of the Cathedral and in the surrounding streets. The whole area is a pedestrian-only zone except for one street, which is wonderful for wandering. The wonderful shops, restaurants, and cafes are everywhere. You can walk almost everywhere you want to go. We never ate at the hotel - so many tempting places all around us. Breakfast suggestions include The Chocolat Box around the corner to the right as you exit the hotel (best chocolate croissants ever), and La Pallaresa (5 minute walk towards La Ramblas) for churros and chocolat. We found the front desk very helpful. The beds were a bit hard for our tastes, but we were so tired every night from all the walking and fun that we slept well anyway. There are other hotels in the immediate surrounding area but if you want the Cathedral view from your window, which is particularly fun on the weekends, this may be your only choice.

Room Tip: High floor, Cathedral view.

As we were navigating through Barcelona trying to find our hotel, we realized that it was in fact on one of the best spots in town! I read the reviews before we arrived and the people that complained about the the noisy festivities held outside the hotel dissmissed an opportunity to experience something worth-while and unique of Barcelona - their sense of community and tradition.
Great food. Breakfast buffet offered what is expected of a Spanish breakfast.
Great service. From the front desk to the personnel tending to the breafast buffet; only good.
Terrible bed. Probably a 20 year old, stiff and unatractive mattress. Urgent ovehaul is needed!
I recommend this hotel if you dont have any back problems and if you are trying to get lodged in a prime location while in Barcelona.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 4th or 5th floor facing the cathedral - that view alone will make the entire t...
