Owner description: The Fundació Joan Miró was created by Miró himself, at first principally with works from his own private collection, with a desire to set up an internationally recognised centre in Barcelona for Miró scholarship and contemporary art research, and to disseminate the collection. The Fundació opened to the public on 10 June 1975 and has since become a dynamic centre in which Joan Miró's work coexists with cutting-edge contemporary art. With an interdisciplinary approach, the Fundació organises temporary exhibitions of 20th and 21st century artists as well as academic activities and projects in collaboration with other institutions and organisations. Through its exhibition and educational programmes, the Fundació Joan Miró explores lines of research linked to the work of Miró and to contemporary art. The Fundació is located in a building designed by Josep Lluís Sert, making it one of the few museums anywhere in the world in which the complicity between artist and architect underpins the dialogue between the works and the space that houses them. The Fundació offers an overview of the landscapes of Joan Miró's art and life, creating an enriching dialogue with other artists from the 20th and 21st centuries.

Up above the hustle of Barcelona you can view some of Miro's great work. It is easy to get to and is a beautiful setting.

If the fussy curves of Gaudi begin to drive you to aesthetic distraction in Barcelona, you need to to take the Metro and the Funicular up to Montjuic and try the Joan Miro Foundation Museum. It has clean spare white lines and a spectacular collection of Miro's work. No pictures allowed inside but shoot all you want from the extraordinary rooftop. The restaurant is in a lovely shaded courtyard and offers tasty and reasonably priced fare. Art lovers can gain admission as a part of the ArtTicket BCN offer, which gets you seven major museum admissions in Barcelona. As of this writing the ticket cost 30 Euros. We thought it was a great deal.

Nestled in the Montijuic Park, this elegant museum reveals the many phases of Joan Miro's career and the progress of his art. The film is among the best produced and most comprehensive film about artists that I have ever seen, and seeing it gives you a marvelous insight into the increasingly abstract and brilliant colors of Miro. Wonderful.

This museum is really nice to visit: it's well designed, has a great audioguide, includes a variety of Miro's works, has a great view of the city, and is easy to get to. While a lot of other great works are in Madrid, this is a great collection in Barcelona.

Make your way to the top of Montjuic (where the Olympics were ...twice) and revel in the views. Once there, this gleaming white building will strike you and inside you will not only see wonderful examples of works by the great Catalan artist Joan Miro, you will also see how art is meant to be displayed. The building is a perfect art space with natural light bathing the interior and nooks and crannies and passages organically linked to serve the art. And, as you look at the stunning views you will see great Miro sculptures and one of the best mobiles of the American sculptor and friend of Miro, Alexander Calder.

If you like modern art of the 20th Century and particularly Miro, you will love this.
