Owner description: The Fundació Joan Miró was created by Miró himself, at first principally with works from his own private collection, with a desire to set up an internationally recognised centre in Barcelona for Miró scholarship and contemporary art research, and to disseminate the collection. The Fundació opened to the public on 10 June 1975 and has since become a dynamic centre in which Joan Miró's work coexists with cutting-edge contemporary art. With an interdisciplinary approach, the Fundació organises temporary exhibitions of 20th and 21st century artists as well as academic activities and projects in collaboration with other institutions and organisations. Through its exhibition and educational programmes, the Fundació Joan Miró explores lines of research linked to the work of Miró and to contemporary art. The Fundació is located in a building designed by Josep Lluís Sert, making it one of the few museums anywhere in the world in which the complicity between artist and architect underpins the dialogue between the works and the space that houses them. The Fundació offers an overview of the landscapes of Joan Miró's art and life, creating an enriching dialogue with other artists from the 20th and 21st centuries.

Truly remarkable museum! Audioguide is surely worth renting - it provides deep and thoughtful inside Miro's creative process. Museum itself is an architectural wonder! I would suggest to dedicate full 2 hours to enjoy this phenomenal exposition.

Wonderful Miro in all his glory, vibrant colours, drawings and sculptures inside and outside. great story of the development of his art and its growth alongside his contemporaries. just minutes from the bus stop (Barcelona tour bus). well worth a visit but be prepared to queue! also beware early closing on Sundays, check before you go.

If you like abstract art, or even if you don't, you should visit this museum. It has a ton of Miro, maybe too much of his drawings, but I think that was a temporary exhibit. The permanent exhibit covers most of Miro's various artistic mediums, like painting, drawing, sculpture, and weaving. The biggest drawback is the audio tour. Way too much meaningless blather and not enough explanation of the work in question, which is really useful when looking at abstract art. In contrast, visit the Picasso Museum, which has an exemplary audio tour.

This is a beautiful museum, showcasing a range of Miro's works over the years - tapestries, sculptures - and lovingly curated. It is set in the lush beautiful Montjuic a short funicular ride up from the Metro. We walked from the funicular stop, for 5 mins. Beyond the museum is a lovely formal garden, not a part of the musuem, with wonderful views over Barcelona and the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya domes in the distance. The museum was not crowed. Worth visiting for fine museum lovers.

i loved this museum. In addition to the rooms full of Mire they also had a Jackson Pollack exhibit as well as an extensive Fluxus movement show. The view from the museum roof was incredible and the paintings, sculptures and textiles were just wonderful to behold. Try using the two day bus pass to get around and up to this museum. Just lovely.
